Jill Sobule – Rainy Day Parade Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It's about how she was doing well then quit taking her meds (probably the antidepressants from Happy Town) and drove everyone away as she plunged back into depression. But she's feeling optimistic because she's hit rock bottom and decided to get back on her meds. |
Jill Sobule – Claire Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It's about an old woman suffering from alzheimers who did amazing things when she was younger but is too far gone to tell stories about them now. |
Jill Sobule – Good Person Inside Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It's about shallow physical attraction. |
Jill Sobule – Barren Egg Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think this song is about this woman's period being a reminder that she has no husband or children. "Another barren egg" being another unfertilized egg being eliminated. |
Jill Sobule – Happy Town Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song is one of my favorites. "To get to Happy Town you can call your doctor You can unscrew the child-proof bottle cap Pour yourself a glass of water" This song is obviously talking about antidepressants. "My boyfriend Bob he said I made him miserable But we stayed together 'cause the sex was really good And then he packed his bags with me to Happy Town We don't fuck anymore, but we can really snuggle down" This is refering to the sexual side effects. "I used to sit under a gloomy cloud of gray And now the sun is shining and it won't go away I used to go up I used to go down Now I'm just even here in Happy Town I don't get excited Nor do I frown The lawn is always neat in Happy Town" This is talking about how antidepressants can make you artificially pleasant but rob you of your emotional depth. The line about the lawns always being neat in Happy Town makes me think of The Stepford Wives. |
