Morrissey – Ambitious Outsiders Lyrics | 12 years ago |
This is about immigrants who tend to commit a disproportionate number of crimes and constantly complain about their living conditions when they have more children than they can feed and raise. |
Incubus – Thieves Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Jewish Americans are the wealthiest and have the most influence. This song is simply racist. |
David Bowie – If I'm Dreaming My Life Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Sort of like the movie Mr. Nobody perhaps? The different things that could've happened in life. |
Arcade Fire – Empty Room Lyrics | 13 years ago |
isolation and loneliness. difficulty dealing with expression. losing hope. sad song. |

Arcade Fire – Half Light II (No Celebration) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
References to God, prayer, sins, market crashes, paying costs (reparation?), birth and death, childhood, light and darkness, relocation, etc. Great band that rights songs with great meanings. |
Bob Dylan – You Changed My Life Lyrics | 14 years ago |
The lyrics in this song are fantastic. |
Bob Dylan – Man in the Long Black Coat Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think the 'man in the long black coat' is sin. Dylan says 'every man's conscience is vile and depraved, you cannot depend on it to be your guide' the woman in this song is letting her vile and depraved mind be her guide (the man in the long black coat) and she's committing sin after sin. Truthfully she knows right from wrong (someone's beating a dead horse, we all know right from wrong and hear it everyday) but for her there are no mistakes and she's just floating. |
Bob Dylan – What Can I Do for You? Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Not sure why this song makes me sad but it is an incredibly beautiful and innocent look into faith. "Well, You've done it all and there's no more anyone can pretend to do." Simple but brilliant. A true poet. |
Bob Dylan – Tryin' to Get to Heaven Lyrics | 14 years ago |
i like david bowie's cover of this song a lot especially the intro and ending. great song by dylan though |
David Bowie – Too Dizzy Lyrics | 14 years ago |
this song is highlarious |
David Bowie – I Would Be Your Slave Lyrics | 14 years ago |
i also thought it was 'i don't give a damn' also 'i picture laugh out loud at me' is probably 'i bet you laugh out loud at me' |
David Bowie – God Only Knows Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I really like this cover. Great vocal performance completely transforms the song. |
David Sylvian – Buoy Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Wonderful song. It is extremely exotic in sound. |
David Bowie – Scream Like a Baby Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Some reason this song makes me think of the Virginia Tech shooter - Cho Seung-hui. |
Morrissey – On The Streets I Ran Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Pope of Mope! Take People From Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania GOD BLESS MORRISSEY |
Morrissey – I'll Never Be Anybody's Hero Now Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song makes me feel horrible, but I like it. |
Morrissey – Moon River (Extended) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It is so beautiful. |
The Smiths – The Boy with the Thorn in His Side Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think this song is about two young men involved in a homosexual relationship. They have went public with it and have been ridiculed. No one believes that they are truly in love, they see it as something else. 'How can they see the Love in our eyes And still they don't believe us ?' This line most reflects my opinions on the song. |
Tom Petty – A Woman in Love (It's Not Me) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
lovely song. Petty is really a fabulous rocker. Some like to write TPATH off for not being as innovative as some of the other big names in rock, but they elevated popular rock, imo. Hard Promises, Full Moon Fever, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Damn The Torpedoes Those 4 albums are pure rock. They will never get old. |
David Bowie – Sons of the Silent Age Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think this song is about modern man. Modern men are 'sons of the silent age' Silent because they have nothing to say; they are empty minded. Platforms represent the grand modern world, blank looks and no books represent stupidity, ignorance, etc. the line 'laying in bed coming and going on easy terms' could represent how easy the modern man has life. 'cell's dimension' represents prison, Modern man imprisonates himself by living the standard home life of having a family. 'rise for a year or two then make war search through their one inc thoughts then decide it couldn't be done' that phrase seems to say people have dreams, but aren't mentally incapable of truly living them. They give up easily. 'all i see is all i know' another line that represents ignorance. 'they never die, they just go to sleep one day' this line suggests people don't wonder about life. they don't ask why. bowie's interpretation of these people is that they don't understand life at all and he exagerates this viewpoint by saying they don't die, they just go to sleep one day. that's my interpretation of it anyways :P |
Tom Petty – The Same Old You Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think this song is about the attraction any David Bowie fan has felt towards David Bowie's glam rock look. |
The Kooks – Matchbox Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Is it just me or do they sound like a british version of Sublime? Lyrically they're better and much less vulgar, but the raggae rock is all over this. |
The Killers – My List Lyrics | 17 years ago |

David Bowie – The Laughing Gnome Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i read a 20 page article about this song being about devil worshipping once on the internet. |
David Bowie – Scream Like a Baby Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This is an anthem for anyone who has ever been oppressed for anything or looked down upon. "mixed with other colours and the nurse didn't care" This seems to relate to his interracial relationships. In particluar, Ava Cherry comes to mind. Sure the nurse didn't care, it's absolutely healthy, no matter how much 'they' hate it. Bowie is lashing out in this song. Reflecting life like a broken mirror through his words. "Now I'm learning to be a part of soc-society" perhaps meant to recall changes with the stutter and the phrase perfectly predicts his future with his commercialism fond next album Let's Dance. |
David Bowie – All the Young Dudes Lyrics | 17 years ago |
lol, stop bickering. Bowie wrote the song, Bowie sings the song (It's on Aladdin Sane). Mott the Hopple also sang the song, before Bowie... Which means nothing, Bowie wrote it and he can sing it without it being a cover. Mott should have also took Drive in Saturday too, that was an awesome song Bowie directly made for him to use, and he turned it down. |
David Bowie – It's No Game (Part 1) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this song scares the shit out of me, i'm not sure why don't listen to it late at night in a unfamiliar place while driving |
David Bowie – Up the Hill Backwards Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Man, Scary Monsters is such an underrated album. I love just about every bowie album (albeit some less than others) This Album is the best album of the 80s. |
David Bowie – Up the Hill Backwards Lyrics | 17 years ago |

The Killers – Sam's Town Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Good read, lyndz. I think the song is a salute to America. The Killers as a band were really labeled as a british band. They broke through in the UK and really had that British pop sound to their music. I remember Flowers mentioning this in interviews, add in the statements about American rock Gods Petty and Springsteen being influences, and this is surely a dedication to the red white and blue.. I don't completely understand the song, but it seems he tries to point out some bad in America, but ultimately says we're the same as you (London) |
David Bowie – Young Americans Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i've always read luther vandross came up with the idea of using the beatles quote in the song |
David Bowie – Across the Universe (The Beatles cover) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
same here, i prefer this one over the original but then again i'm addicted to bowie :( anyone know a rehab center? |
David Bowie – New Killer Star Lyrics | 17 years ago |
anyone know what ' like seeing jesus on dateline ' means? that's such a cool lyric |
David Bowie – Time Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think this song would of had critical and popular success if he had omitted the lines about time flexing like a whore and wanking to the floor. Those lines define this as a Ziggy/ Bowie bisexual song though. I love it. |
David Bowie – Dancing with the Big Boys Lyrics | 17 years ago |
what the fuck? This song is embarassing... |
Morrissey – I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i prefer bowie's version, it makes me cry :( |
David Bowie – Black Tie White Noise Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i like this song a lot |
Phish – David Bowie Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think this song is about how David Bowie is actually God. If you listen closely to the way he pronounces Bowie, it's clear this is what he's trying to say. |
Iggy Pop – Neighborhood Threat Lyrics | 17 years ago |
To my knowledge, David Bowie did the music for it. It's a fantastic song. I think the song is about acknowledging the mass differences in the world. No matter how great you may be, someone somewhere doesn't give a damn about you. "There's nothing to get" That lyric conveys they idea of there being no meaning in life. The idea could be applied to there being so many mass differences. What meaning can your religion has when those people over there have never heard of it? Just my opinion. |
David Bowie – TVC 15 Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Excellent! The Iggy Pop history bit makes this once beautiful, yet akward, song another perfect song by David Bowie. |
New Order – Thieves Like Us Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Love transcends all. There was love in the east, love in the west. Love was found on the hills, in the valleys, and even alcoholics found love. "It cuts through life like a broken knife" There is the inevitable contradicting lyric to be found in every New Order song. If it truly transcends all, it'd cut through life like a very sharp knife or a bowie knife (a knife sharp on both sides) That's my take. |
New Order – Turn My Way Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Seems to have to do with rebellion, independance, and self discovery, while concluding with reflection. In my opinion, a middle aged man is looking back at the choices in his life that ultimately were understandable. He doesn't seem to regret it, but acknowledges that there is a better way. Not really sure myself though. |
New Order – True Faith Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think the title is more about obsession than anything. One can dedicate their life to a religion and that is socially acceptable. In a way their looking at someone whose life is dedicated to addiction and that person sees no problem with it, they're not searching for rehabilitation or any help. |
New Order – Love Vigilantes Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I cannot agree more, erique merteuil. So many 'musicians' try to sell albums with mindless banter about the war. It's beautiful to see a band truly understand the emotions involved in it for families who lose a loved one. That's what's really important, that being life. Do people really think an educated family who lose their beloved sibling to a war care about hearing some conspiracy theory thought up in 3-4 minutes? Props to New Order. |
