"Remember that lass, because that was the right one" is that not supposed to be 'remember that LAST KISS, because that was the right one'? it'd make more sense with the previous line of 'touching tighs', and all... |

"losing a star without a sky losing the reasons why you're losing the calling, you've been faking" i think this is about making up an image of you or something you supposedly believe in that isn't really true or worthwhile... and you get so wrapped up in trying to convince others and yourself of this so-called truth that you even forget what it was supposed to mean, why you did it... "oh hidy hidy hidy what're you trying prove? by hidy hidy hiding you're not worth a thing" again... if you forget to be yourself and just focus on this image (what are you trying to prove by doing it, who are you trying to impress, it doesn't make sense to try this), then that's when you stop being worth all that... "how selfish of you to believe in the meaning of all the bad dreaming" and sometimes you give up on people or projects because you imagine it may all go wrong and then you believe it. it's like ending a relationship for fear of being hurt, and thus, hurting the other person. selfish. one of the most beautiful, most melancholy, most post-disillusionment songs i've ever heard. |
Placebo – Post Blue Lyrics | 17 years ago |
well... I'm really going for the 'post depression' angle here, not the pregnancy thing... so, my take on it: "It's in the water, baby It's in the pills that bring you down" the person's sense of sadness is so deep that it seems it cannot come just from life, it's something in the very water that messes the metabolism, makes everything seem uglier. metaphor-like, surely. as for the pills, that could either be because of drugs, and Molko often mentions how drugs can make your life misery... or it could be having to take medicine for depression and feeling bad about it. "It's in the water, baby It's in your bag of golden brown" if he's mentioning that the problem lies in the heroin, 'it' really is referring to that feeling of addiction and sickness. "It's in the water, baby It's in your frequency" frequency here makes me think that person might simply be 'wrong' by him or herself. like their very frequency is a bit distorted, making them feel differently from others. making them blue when everybody's wearing rose coloured glasses. "It's in the water, baby It's between you and me" here he talks about how their relationship might be another cause for this sadness, this problem. or he's just being supportive, saying he'll share whatever worries... though i think this song has a feeling of sickness a bit bigger than affection. placebo seems to talk so much about messed up relationships... probably because they do happen. you do stay with people even though it might hurt you, even if you might be doing you both a favour ending it, sometimes you just can't let go. "It's in the water, baby It's in the pills that pick you up" again, could be anti-depressives. "It's in the water, baby It's in the special way we fuck" the way he says fuck (which is very sexy, actually) seems to indicate a bit of anger, of coolness. it's not making love, it's fucking. so 'special way' could again reffer to a bad relationship that is so tense it causes the chemistry to build up and end in sex that only reinforces the cicle of hurting and makes it more difficult to let go. "It's in the water, baby It's in your family tree" again, this song seems to be more about depression than pregnancy or anything else. why? because depression can be a hereditary disease. if your family has a history of depression, then you're more likely to get it, too. "Bite the hand that feeds Tap the vein that bleeds" again, I think this is about hurting but not being able to let go... because, even though you are ungrateful, you 'bite the hand that feeds', you do not want this help... you still 'tap the vein' which, I think, is meant to stop the bleeding, thus, preventing you from dying and allowing you to continue feeling sick. maybe it's about self-loathing, self-pitying and not being able to step away from that to become really better for once. like taking hesitant steps toward recovery, getting scared of not having that feeling anymore (bad as it may be, at least it's familiar), and so letting yourself get bad again... "Down on my bended knees, I'd break the back of love for you" since he is on his knees we could think that, again, there is something wrong about their relationship, or maybe, and I think this is more likely, he is desperate for the other person to stop their slow cycle of self-destruction and is beeging, on his knees, showing his devotion by saying how he'd do anything to help, even 'break the back of love'. or, maybe, and i think this is another meaning it could have, 'breaking the back of love' could mean ruining the relationship once and for all. they can't stop though it makes things worse, so it finally come to a point where it breaks. the back of love breaks and dies (or gets paralytic, anyway). so even though he knows this is where they're headed, the breaking of love, he will stay there, because he's also in love with the distortion of it all. or maybe he will end things once and for all, he will ruin this love that is doing no good, so that the person can get better. i might have repeated myself and others a few times here, but i think this is it. opinions? |
