Radiohead – The Bends Lyrics 11 years ago
Well written and well said. Radiohead was talking about all of this and more. But you are on top of it. Just one thing; edit " black people" to African Americans. The term "Black People" sounds as weak and tawdry as it was intended.

Mike Curb Congregation – Burning Bridges Lyrics 11 years ago
You may think this is a happy song but it is not . This Burning Bridges song is a sad song of regret. The idea of this song - regretfulness - only comes to fruition after years of contemplation by the writer. " Years have passed and I keep thinking
What a fool I've been " tells us of the deep hurt felt by the writer of this song; this song is very sad indeed.

Steely Dan – The Caves of Altamira Lyrics 11 years ago
Altamira (Spanish for 'high views') is a cave in Spain famous for its Upper Paleolithic cave paintings featuring drawings and polychrome rock paintings of wild mammals and human hands.

The Altamira cave, now famous for its unique collection of prehistoric art, was well known to local people, but had not been given much attention until in 1868 it was "discovered" by the hunter Modesto Peres.

Marcelino de Sautuola then started exploring the caves in 1875. He did however not become aware of the paintings until 1879, when his daughter Maria, nine years old at the time, incidentally noticed that the ceiling was covered by images of bison. Sautuola, having seen similar images engraved on Paleolithic objects displayed at the World Exposition in Paris the year before, rightly assumed that also the paintings might be dating from the stone-age. He therefore engaged an archaeologist from the University of Madrid to help him in his further work. (wiki)

U2 – A Sort Of Homecoming Lyrics 17 years ago
"A sort of a home coming" is so special to me. It's got to be in my top 5 u2 songs. The part that goes " see the sky the burning rain, she will die and live again" reminds me of my mother who died back in '86. This song helped me thru it, and still comforts me. God, I was so young back then. These words are still so poignant to me. The words to this song flow out over my tongue like blood flows thru my viens. My life blood. " No spoken words, just a screem"...

Jeff Buckley – Dream Brother Lyrics 17 years ago
Jeff is the shit. I'm so sorry he's dead. Every time I listen to this CD I cry a tear. I am thankful that he did live and I did hear his voice. The voice of an angel.

Peter Gabriel – Mercy Street Lyrics 17 years ago
I just thought "Mercy St." was a cool song, but this song is clearly about sexual child abuse. It's quite disturbing when one re-reads the lyrics...so much to digest...so much to comprehend. The lyrics are beset by a dark musical atmosphere. "Mercy St." is quite a work of art. And yes, Miranda nailed it. Well done.

U2 – Do You Feel Loved Lyrics 17 years ago
I like the obvious connection between "Do You Feel Loved" and "Yahweh" .' Take these hands... shoes...shirt". It always seems Bono is talking to God.And "it looks like the sun,(Son), but it feels like rain"' could be talking about the Son of God.

U2 – Miracle Drug Lyrics 17 years ago
When I read the lyrics to "Miracle Drug", I like to imagine that the person speaking is Jesus himself. Just like in "Until The End Of the World" where the point of view is Judas Iscariot. Perhaps it was not planned, but it kinda fits. Mysterious are his ways and we are all amazed.

U2 – Peace On Earth Lyrics 17 years ago
The end of this last comment is disturbing to me. Bono isn't complaining. Above all, Bono is patient. When you write songs and poetry, the writer is trying to reach inside the reader and evoke a responce.Sometimes the writer plays the devil's advocate or alter ego, i.e. Manifesto. In this song, "Peace on Earth", Bono starts the song with the main theme... " Heaven on earth, we need it now..." But then the song takes a realistic view, albeit cynical, of the world we live in. As we live and breathe sometimes we don't realize or forget how screwed up the world is. This song is a reminder.
But more than anything this song reminds me of every Christmas when there is a frenzy of Christmas carols about "peace on earth and good will toward man". This always seems so fake when there's wars, rumors of wars, poverty and starvation, while muti-national companies make billions on the backs of the poor. I always play this song at Christmas time. I even request it on radio stations as a Christmas carol.
Moonangel says Bono should ask God for patience and strength to keep helping people... I think Bono is doing fine. Bono just keep writing great songs about spirituality that evoke thought and discussion and keep being that role model for all of us, even other celebrities.

U2 – Hawkmoon 269 Lyrics 17 years ago
I read some of the comments, and there all cool. It's important to remember that there is no wrong answers. Song lyrics are very personal and subjective. As a writer of poetry, sometimes I write stuff and the meaning will change and mutate from the origianal idea. For me it is important to remember that there is always spiritual undertones in Bono's lyrics. ALWAYS...if you look for them. For me Hawkmoon is about needing the presence of love energy in your life. God is love. Now Bono is on a big Charity Trip...trying to end poverty and such. That doesn't come from being drunk in a spinning room. That spirit or love energy comes from above. Allowing that energy to pass through us and extend to the world is what the message is all about and it's a thing we all can do as we pass through this life.Believing in God isn't about going to church, it's about how we treat eachother. It's all about love.Like oxygen...we need it.
