Belinda Carlisle – In Too Deep Lyrics
|
Actually, this song could also be about someone who wants commitment, but the other person isn't sure if they could commit to the relationship. The singer of the lyrics is already in love with the other person ("I'm in too deep to ever get out"), and s/he says "don't give me your doubts", "I only want to come home", "don't let me go". Something happened or something was said that makes the person feel insecure about the relationship ("We took the wrong turn that day...And how we crashed... thanks for the crash course").
This song perfectly describes my breakup with someone who did not want to commit long-term, and ended the relationship because of his doubts. It's a beautiful song, but brings back the bitter memory of the end of my very first relationship! |

Merril Bainbridge – Lonely Lyrics
|
As a 10-12 year old kid, I used to think that the lyrics were 'if you love me, kiss the boys and make them cry..." I thought that was such a weird request to make to a prospective boyfriend! :D
Now of course, I understand that the song is about single girls who are not too unhappy about being single and aren't guilty leading guys on! :S |

Simian Mobile Disco – Audacity of Huge Lyrics
| 14 years ago
|
Well no one has said what the song is about... might be because it's obvious-
my interpretation is that the song is about a spoiled young guy who is
starting to understand that money can't buy everything (e.g. love).
But I have NO idea what 'audacity of huge' is supposed to mean.
Audacity means a disregard of restraints... but 'audacity of huge'
makes no sense. Maybe it's not supposed to though. |

Generationals – When They Fight, They Fight Lyrics
| 14 years ago

I thought it's more about how fights are a part of relationships... or it shows a the end of a relationship (a relationship which was never working in the first place because those involved are too different, have bad communication, or fight all the time). |

Passion Pit – The Reeling Lyrics

Is the song about loneliness? That's what it means to me and I can totally reflect with the lyrics. I love the Calvin Harris remix of this. Why doesn't anyone talk about the meaning of the song anymore? |

Passion Pit – Better Things Lyrics

Half of these lyrics are wrong. I seriously wonder what this song is about though?
After looking at these lyrics, I wonder if it's something religious (one person
encourage their loved-one that god promises 'better things'... geez). |

The All-American Rejects – Gives You Hell Lyrics
| 15 years ago
|
I like the way the vocalist performs this song, and the music... but I can't help feeling that all these 'I'm totally over you' songs show that the singer of the song is totally NOT over their ex (e.g. this song, Pink's 'So What'). I wonder if that's the point of this style... |

Jay Brannan – Soda Shop Lyrics
|
Actually, I think the song is about having to look after yourself
after getting drunk-- the 'somehow I dialed my cell' seems to suggest it...
but of course, it could also mean that he calls his own cell (which is
at home and the friend picks it up). |

Alphaville – Forever Young Lyrics
|
Some of the best lyrics I've heard/seen. To me, this song is all about the exuberance of youth and that it's a very short-lived thing (so you have to make the most of it). The Killers should totally cover this song! |

Out Hud – It's For You Lyrics

Wow, am I the first person to post a comment on this song? I guess this song is about breakup/get back together stuff. I don't know. I'm in love with the bassline in this song... |

No, ObsceneMinstrel, please tell (the more innocent of) us what exactly this phantom limb is? Is this a reference to penis envy or something?! Like this song though... |

Xavier Rudd – Let Me Be Lyrics

|
Well teenyboppers are growing up; maybe someday they will like the other more meaningful songs! I'm sure most of us have been there... anyway, this is a simple, self-explanatory song about the problems of the world (war and peace etc.). I love the didgeridoo part! And how Xavier seems to be into the aboriginal culture. That's so cool. |

Avril Lavigne – Keep Holding On Lyrics
|
I think the song the first person was referring to was Welcome to the Black Parade by MCR. It's the part where they sing 'we'll carry on we'll carry on' right? It sounds a bit like that when avril sings 'keep holding on'. Don't really like avril, but who cares? The song's good enough... |

My Chemical Romance – Welcome To The Black Parade Lyrics

Why are so many ppl dissing this song? I mean, it's much better than the majority of other mainstream stuff that's around. Are ppl just messing around or something? Anyway, this song sounds like Green Day and Queen... and MCR. I think it's pretty good. The lyrics are self-explanatory. |

Silverchair – The Greatest View Lyrics
|
I thought it was about someone watching over someone who was suffering that was curious about the first person... someothing like that. Daniel has changed a lot... he's gone all old-school punk and it doesn't quite suit him. The way he yelled out indecipherable lyrics in the arias recently. And spray painted a political message. Nope. I liked him better before. |

It does grow on you. I like the whole aggressiveness. I can imagine Avril Lavigne singing this too, but she's too poppy... |

Wonder if anyone knows whether there is a Requiem for O.M.M (as in O.M.M the first)? I dunno... they have weird (albeit cool) titles for their songs. |

Jack Off Jill – I Touch Myself Lyrics
|
No, no this song IS by Jack off Jill... just coz it doesn't sound like the rest of their stuff... jeez. And well since I'm asked 'what does this song mean to you'... it's pretty obvious: masturbation and an exclusive relationship where the main person is EXTREMELY sure about his/her 'sexiness'. |
submissions
of Montreal – She's a Rejecter Lyrics
|
Ah I love this song! It's funny and sad at the same time (like some of their other stuff). And it's obvious what it means. The poor guy is traumatized by rejection from a snobby girl. |

There's nothing wrong with constructing meanings for songs if you want to. This song: more anarchist than Sex Pistols if I dare say that... |

Jill Sobule – I Kissed A Girl Lyrics

Well it's obvious what this song means. I wish a male singer did a cover of this- "I kissed a Guy". I would PAY for that song. |

Radiohead – Creep Lyrics
|
I don't know why some people try to put a suicide slant into all these songs. I don't think 'Creep' is about suicide at all. It's about a guy that has a self-esteem issue and is mourning the fact that he can't get a girl society calls beautiful, to like him. That's all! the lyrics aren't genius although the music's great. |

The Raconteurs – Steady, As She Goes Lyrics

Maybe the song's message is that marriage is not for everyone (they do make it sound like the whole deal is so mundane with the lyrics), and yeah, the pressure from society to do what everyone else does. |

Jessica Simpson – A Public Affair Lyrics

The video is pretty funny; Jessica sending herself up as usual. As for the song itself, it sounds like a
cross between kiddy music and um... gay party anthems... sorry (It's not that bad though. sort of um... happy.)! |

Evermore – Running Lyrics
|
To me this song is about someone who has gone through some kind of pain and is likening it to having been hurt by the ending of a relationship. The whole 'you don't need a broken heart' thing sort of implies that the guy might NOT have experienced these problems himself. |

Muse – Knights of Cydonia Lyrics

The corrections suggested are right. Great song. Wonder what it's really about though. Is it about fighting for rights in society? I don't think it's anything religious though. Hope not. |

James Blunt – You're Beautiful Lyrics
|
Obviously unrequited love. It used to make me want to cry. Now it makes me want to laugh. James's (fake) voice is funny. I like his real voice better. The tune is good though. Just the croaked out 'you're beautiful' is a bit retarded. |

Panic! at the Disco – I Write Sins Not Tragedies Lyrics
| 17 years ago
|
I thought this song was about a young man discovering the problems of relationships but facing them with a mature outlook on life. or something. it does make a bunch of late-teens sound like 80 year olds- singing about 'poise and rationality'- oh god! these ppl are younger than myself so this song makes me feel odd... and i don't agree that this band is 'emo'. it's more like avante-garde wannabe. |
