I love this song!
To me it's about people who are lonely or unhappy and who meet and help each other through it. It's about people who are waiting for something in life and they try to find it with other people.
I don't think it necessarily means romantic emotion, either. I think any emotion suffices for someone in the dark and loneliness of "night." |

I love this song, I think it's absolutely beautiful.
To me it's about a couple that couldn't work together for some reason, but they loved each other deeply and just could never get over each other. He eventually drank himself to death, and in her guilt, she eventually drank herself to death too (maybe I'm too literal, but they ended up dying).
It's a fantastically sad song, and very pretty. And the video's pretty awesome too. =] |

I think this song is beautiful.
I think it's about someone dying, not someone leaving. "It wasn't long enough," "this isn't how we planned it," etc. all seem to indicate death in my opinion.

For me, the song is about how she's unhappy with her life. She has a lot, but not anything that matters to her, and it makes her feel like she's lost and searching for something to fill that void.

I definitely think that this song could be about a girl who has been hurt by love in the past and has finally found a guy with whom she is deeply in love, although everyone tells her that she's making a mistake.
However, upon further listening and reading, I thought of something else. I think that perhaps the people that telling her she should leave may be right. In the lines
"They try to pull me away
But they don’t know the truth
My heart’s crippled by the vein
That I keep on closing"
it seems to say that they don't know that she needs to be with him, needs to love him because if she doesn't she feels closed off and "frozen". Even if he is bad like everyone tells her, she still needs it although the love she has experienced in the past as well as now continues to hurt her ("bleeding love"). The hurt she is going through in her relationship is better than being alone without any love at all.

I absolutely agree with the fact that it could be about stars losing their fame, but I think it could also be about people realizing that they don't have to pretend to be someone they're not. Because when it comes down to that one moment when you have to make a choice and the only thing that you have is yourself, everyone, including yourself, can see the person you really are through the choice that you made.
Or I could be completely delusional, but that's what it means to me! =] Either way I love this song! |

I've re-read the lyrics and listened to the song probably twenty times and I still cannot ascertain the meaning. If I had to take a guess I would say that the singer (the "I") is just trying to go through life and learn. So "I" is plodding along and is in love with someone else (the "you"). So "I" and "You" talk for a while and go on with a relationship until "I" realizes that it won't work. So then "I" is left to pick up the pieces and continue with her life. Again, this is just my take on the song, and I really am not sure at all. I'd like to get other perspectives. :) |

I also thought it was about a relationship, but it definitely seems to be about God. That doesn't, however, mean it can't be about a relationship. When I hear this song I think about the show Doctor Who (anyone watch??) because I first heard it in a Doctor Who video. So for me, it's about one of the characters (the Doctor) being away from the other (Rose) and how she still feels and needs him even though he is away from her. (A tear because Billie is leaving :'( NO!!!) Or it could be about when someone you care deeply about dies and how you still need them and you can feel them with you.
I'm not religious (at all, I'm an atheist) so for me it's about a relationship. It just depends on the person listening to the song. You could think it's about God or a relationship, it could go either way. That's why it's a great song! |

This song means different things to different people. My favorite line is "I've found you find strength in your moments of weakness", but my mother's favorite is "There comes a time in everyone's life, When all you can see are the years passing by". I think we can all agree it's a beautiful song, though. |

I think this song is very good! I love the music especially. It's about how she decided to leave her boyfriend (or husband) because he never really cared about her. She left him a note saying she's leaving on his pillow because that is the only time he thinks of her. She figures that she's already lonely because he's never cared so she might as well be lonely by herself and leave him. Great song! |
