The Hush Sound – Wine Red Lyrics 14 years ago
a girl in love with a guy who has lied to him, she shot the crimson arrow in his throat but then rescured him; she wants them to die a romeo & juliet death, she lays him under the tree covering both of them with silver leaves; she pledges she'll cast him up against the stars and pleads give your immortallity to me. Still alive, he rebuffs her and with great energy says Gloria we lied this is the time and this is the place to be alive. The lovers lied we cannot go on. Where there is dishonesty on a lover's part the love relationship fails on lack of trust. It is not religious, except the garden substituting in for the relationship. William Tell was told to shoot an apple off his son's head. Google it. All songs can be held in a religious light as God is love and lover's love is love, they can be interchangable but the author usually has a disappointedly simple explanation to the song and not the complex meaning we see. Does someone know what the writer said this song is about? Do they take questions at their website? I love this song and can't get tired of it!!

Camera Obscura – Hands Up Baby Lyrics 14 years ago
Beautiful melody, Nancy Sinatra voice, ala One Velvet Morning sang with Lee Hazelwood - a clear look into the psyche of a guy who is going to commit suicide over a girl and take her with him. But what is most intriguing is the last line in unison "I'll turn around I'll walk away from you If I turn back I'll be the death of you." Nicole Simpson had many chances to divorce OJ but it was she who kept seeking him out after time gone by, not ever knowing what he would do - but she was the end of him too. His life is hell on earth inside his soul from his glory days.

Heaven 17 – Let Me Go Lyrics 14 years ago
This is an all time favorite of mine. The lyrics are so cool and insightful. I guess it can be read many ways. I took it to mean two buddies who had everything when they were young, the world by the tail, but now there is a time a torture less sublime, our souls are locked and frozen. I believe it is about the potential, the beauty, the energy, the fearless and cocksure omnipotence of youth and it should last forever, yet it passes so quickly and you didn't find what you wanted for your life and now in your 30s (lol) or perhaps just say "older" our souls are locked and frozen, meaning that freespirited spontaniety has mileage and fear sets in due to the mistakes of youth when you dive into love and hit your head on concrete, or whatever the dreams and disappointments are, make you wary and nothing ventured nothing gained and so you become frozen. Getting older feels like being punished for a crime as you see the next generation take its reign of power and beauty, and so you look back and say it was the best years of our lives, and you still hope somehow you'll find "it" - my favorite lyric "the only game in town I'll turn the last card down and now the bank is broken" always gives me goosebumps because I think it is about that last grasp for real happiness be it true love, fame, power, etc., and now the bank is broken. Amazing and very overlooked song -

Page and Plant – The Battle of Evermore (Led Zeppelin cover) Lyrics 14 years ago
This is my very favorite Led Zeppelin song also of all of them. The music is fantastic, the lyrics wonderful. I will not deign to figure them out except in reading them it seems to be about war (things turn bad then good after the war is over) and all that real war ruins and destroys and once gone you cannot bring back those beautiful things back. Once war is over the skies are blue again and creation is restored. It is a very apropos song for Bush right now if things that are becoming nuclear continue under his vision and perceptions and deeds. He is a cowboy in a business suit who needs to go back to Texas and do some shit kicking there, not on a world that may not recover from his 8 year reign of showing how we are not a superpower after all, and that everyone needs to keep a gun (a nuke) in their house just in case.

Echo and the Bunnymen – The Killing Moon Lyrics 14 years ago
Well, I do believe it is about death if only because the writer said so. But forever it was a big sexual turn on thinking it was about an overwhelmingly magnetic womanizer who has decided he will have a girl who with all her will is determined not to give herself to him, but his power will break her will and she knows he will break her heart afterward but still she will not be able resist his powerful sexuality on some night of weakness on her part. And to learn it's only about dying, shucks. Jim Morrision related sex and dying as the pinnacle of orgasm and of dying being a brief flash of anxiety followed by the climax of things. This song would have served Jim's philosophy too well. I hope his breaking on through to the other side at 27 (albeit by accident) was all he hoped it would be.

Elton John – Come Down In Time Lyrics 14 years ago
I fell in love with this song in 1989 when I heard it sung my Sting. It is so slow and sensuous I wanted to slow dance with my lover, and I never do that anymore, no time, I love the end some hold you tight some leave you counting the stars in the night -why is it always the ones that got away that play across our minds from time to time (smile).

America – Clarice Lyrics 14 years ago
He has a girlfriend who is afraid or intentionally does not reveal herself to him "lay down your mind" he is intent on finding the "real her" behind the mirage, he assures her that if she is afraid of being an open book (open door) there will still be a dynamic to the relationship because all relationships evolve, change, etc. Am I close?

Led Zeppelin – Babe I'm Gonna Leave You Lyrics 14 years ago
One of their very best songs - in many ways they are superior to the rolling stones and beatles. I just feel sorry for the girl - he torments her, he should just keep it to himself and leave a note on the table one summertime morning, LOL, but then we wouldn't have those beautiful lyrics.

Birdie – Blue Dress Lyrics 14 years ago
I think it is about a lonely girl who puts on a new dress and earring(s), goes out on the town and sleeps with a new man (blue dress on the floor), and they fall in love and have a relationship (look what you and I created).

David Gray – Babylon Lyrics 14 years ago
This song blows me away. It was used on the Boston Law finale. I think pure and simple the song is what it is - a break up and make up of lovers. I think Led Zepplin songs or Rolling Stones may be more encrypted.
