Paul Dempsey – Bats Lyrics
|
Sorry, but I don't think this song is a love song about Melbourne. Even though he loves watching bats fly down the Yarra, he's just using it as a metaphor or a reference in this song.
It can't be a love song with lyrics like
"And those average angels
the drunken saints with heavy heads
you see their spirits are cowering under the table
and they're still counting, counting the breaths under their breath"
in it.
I think its a song about a rough relationship, e.g
"And the high-pitched, crooked thoughts
that ricocheted off the walls
she just set them down quiet, safe in her dresser drawer
she laid me out on the laundromat floor
and said "You'll be not nearly who you were anymore
and I'll always be here to remind you what time is for"
The "you'll be not nearly who you were anymore" is about how the relationship has deeply scarred him. |

The Whitlams – Royal In The Afternoon Lyrics
| 16 years ago
|
this song is basically saying that he is a wild kind of guy, likes to sleep in, used to go out and drink and smoke a lot. but his new girl and baby have superceeded this as they are more important to him. it actually says 'can't be bigger than my old habits' ; he's saying home life isnt as spectacular as his previous life, but he likes it how it is, and if he's awake in the morning (cause he is a lazy guy) then in the arvo he will treat his girl like a queen |

you can update it easily. read about it in the site FAQ. and it was very hard to try and decipher most of these lyrics so please dont be so rude when ur saying some of them are wrong. i knew that some lines were wrong but it is harder than you think to hear the actual lyrics. the ones that i did get correct may seem obvious to you because i have written them out. this was just a start. i didn't see you uploading the lyrics. finally, suck my dick. |

Dan Kelly and the Alpha Males – Vice City Rolling Lyrics
| 16 years ago
|
References to drugs:
firstly, the title includes the word 'rolling'
-I don't want religion, keep the faith healing, I don't need a guru to teach me good feeling
I just need an overdose of speed and I steal it, then I head back home, disconnect the phone
-Cause baby if you don't have none Then maybe you should come get some
You'll never have to be so glum, again, good times ring my friend, all night long
-All the next day you'll be jumping in shadows
Bleeding from the eyes, mentally shattered
Hunched down on the couch with an overbite
this last one is a reference to the 'comedown' of speed
i know thatmany of these are also words to describe the game i.e rolling and speed but that is the genius of the song. the part about the comedown pretty much makes it undeniably about speed |

Josh Rouse – Givin' it up Lyrics

this song seems to be about alcoholism, and how when you're in that state you keep telling yourself that you will give it up. on first listening it sounds like a positive song, relating to how he has given up on drinking. but if you read it closely it seems that he hasn't completely overcome the problem. for instance, the last line is 'i'll be coming around, crawling on all fours', a line which is used in the first stanza, relating to his drunken state |

Elliott Smith – True Love Lyrics

streetspirit20_72, are you not familiar with common sense? this song is clearly about drugs, most likely heroin. you seem to be in some sort of denial. its funny now that there seem to be more people denying that elliott's songs are about drugs than there are saying that they are... its true, some of them arent, but this one definitely is, and so are others. you have to be in the shoes of an addict to fully understand the pull of drugs.., that is why they are such a problem in today's society, because they literally... well.. once you've tried a drug like heroin.. it literally is true love. |

the lost and found is right because i have a live recording of this where elliott says that its 'another standard folk song'. all folk songs are stories so this must be a story about elliott at a bar. |

The Shins – Eating Styes From Elephants' Eyes Lyrics
| 17 years ago

and also, i think this song is about childhood and the way that school and society try to condition, us. 'They wont stab but they'll grab
And that's just like the other' theyre stabbing us. 'i went to school and saw slides of where im meant to be' basically, school tells us what to do, and what are the right paths to take. 'We're attached to the past
Cause our future's a bleak one' well thats obvious, the way things are shaping out, the future will suck. then it talks a fair bit about using drugs or alcohol to overcome all of the pressure associated with schooling 'drown it in booze' 'osmotic patch (most likely a transdermal opiate' |

this song is awesome. but some of the lyrics here are wrong. for instance it is 'we get nerves' not 'we get news.' and its not 'orgasmic plant', its 'osmotic patch', fentanyl styles. so im gonna resubmit |

OK Go – The Fix Is In Lyrics
|
there are parts of the song that dont fit with ur stimulant theory. i dont really agree. id say its more about how people are always looking for the 'fix,' the thing to solve their problems, which could be drugs, or it could be going to boston. but it never works. do u get my point? |

firstly togo, ur a fucking toy, the time signature is a very interesting element of the song and it makes it have a very distinguished down so u can
a) fuck off
b) suck my dick and choke on it and die
secondly litz, the song doesn't have a dark meaning, its more praising heroin. |

Yeah, its definitely drugs, hence "Stuck it on the back of my tongue and then swallowed it"
In the interview Gruff was being sarcastic. "It's about the downside. There's too many songs celebrating the upside of sex and drugs. Wine, sorry." |

The Fray – Heaven Forbid Lyrics
|
I think it can be interpreted several ways. Firstly theres the whole drug thing "It feel's good.. is that reason enough for you?" Is very relevant to drug use, eg heroin. "Tearing at the seams etc, the damage the drugs have done" "Heaven forbid you end up alone, and don't know why, hold on tight and wait for tomorrow..." The drugs are isolating her from everyone else, hes telling her to hold on and it will be alright, to be strong and avoid the drugs etc.
Then theres the whole aspect that she could be just a promiscuous girl 'u end up alone and dont know why' 'it feels good' applies in the same way 'twenty years now' 'wait for tomorrow' could be a form of mocking the girl. 'dont know how to get u out of this one' he doesn't know how to stop her acting so promiscuously, its going to hurt her in the end
i prefer the drugs interpretation, 'its on your face' etc leads more strongly to that |
