Ian Hunter – When The World Was Round Lyrics | 8 years ago |
This is what I wrote when attempting a 2013 edit: I added the lyrics to this site several years ago. I must have accidently deleted the beginning of the song before I submitted it. I went back over the lyrics just now and I saw the need for further changes as I listened to the song. The lyrics to this magnificent song need to be correct. It is very important to me. Mr. Hunter was able to capture a particular point of view about a moment in history, The sentiments expressed in his song reflect the mindset of a significent portion of the population at a gut level. This song is huge. It must be treated with great love and respect. |
Ian Hunter – When The World Was Round Lyrics | 8 years ago |
Please pardon the metrolyrics thingy - rather than type directly from listening, I edited what I copied online while listening to the album cut of the song. Metro lyrics were also incorrect ... so I corrected them, too. Unfortunately there is no edit feature for the comment section so I'm stuck with this entry making me look like an ass. Phooey! :p Doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is this great song. I'm an idiot. Ian Hunter is positively brilliant. End of story. |
Ian Hunter – When The World Was Round Lyrics | 8 years ago |
Remember the kids in the playground avoiding the bullies each day Timing your life to the monsters, the monsters that won't go away When you win some, you lose some, you ain't got much choice So you choose one, what have you done? Everybody lies, we're stuck in the middle I think I liked it better when the world was round There's too much information, not enough to go on I think I liked it better when the world was round. Now that we're older and wiser, now we've got kids of our own Timing their lives to the monsters but the monsters won't leave them alone You win some, you lose some, you ain't got much choice But it's got to be done, yeah, it's got to be done. 'Cause everybody lies, we're stuck in the middle I think I liked it better when the world was round There's too much information but not enough to go on I think I liked it better when the world was round; I don't want to put you off it, I don't want to put you off it But I think I liked it better when the world was round And I wish that I could change it, yes I wish that I could change it Think I liked it better when the world was round. Is it my imagination? When I look back through the ages? Is it my imagination? Yeah. Well, you win some, you lose some, you only got two shots So you take one, what have you done? 'Cause everybody lies, we're stuck in the middle I think I liked it better when the world was round And I don't think we deserve this, no I don't think we deserve this I think I liked it better when the world was round Give me a reason to believe in, give me a reason to believe in I think I liked it better when the world was round Maybe we can make it better, maybe we can make it better I think I liked it better when the world was round When the world was round, when the world was round I think I liked it better when the world was round When the world was round, when the world was round Read more: Ian Hunter - When The World Was Round Lyrics | MetroLyrics Hi. It's me, artmaven, SM member since something like 2006, trusted member for nearly as long. Love the site. I submitted these lyrics, apparently in 2010. Damn, that was a lifetime ago yet, feels like yesterday. No clue whether something happened since that time but the lyrics were incomplete when I came here, today, to share them with a friend. I don't remember submitting them in an incomplete form. I am fairly certain that I would have given serious attention to what I was doing with the lyrics of such an important tune. Then again, November 30, 2010 was a horrendously stressful time which is why I submitted the lyrics. Think of it as SM stress-therapy. Today's therapy session includes correcting the lyrics so they include *all* of the lyrics. Thanks for your time. ~artmaven After submitting the above correction, I received a message that the revision would be submitted to the copyright owner for approval and then discovered the following Lyric Revision Status: Recent Lyric Revisions Status Submitted artmaven May 03rd, 2016 artmaven May 03rd, 2016 artmaven January 01st, 2013 artmaven November 30, 2010 Original Since it has been three years since I last attempted to correct the lyrics and nothing has changed, I thought it acceptable to make the correction, here, in the comments. I miss the old SM and my Trusted Member status. I think I liked it better when the world was round. Indeed. |
Divine Fits – My Love Is Real Lyrics | 10 years ago |
lol. Now I see all the other folks who attempted to correct the lyrics. I hate seeing mistakes like this on SM. Just not right. Wish I could fix it. |
Divine Fits – My Love Is Real Lyrics | 10 years ago |
The lyrics are definitely not for "My Love Is Real" by Divine Fits. I submitted a correction but from the previous comment, I gather that moznoise also submitted a correction over a year ago. Since nothing has been corrected, I'll post the correct lyrics until this is fixed. The correct lyrics are: I was stuck on a pin and we were equally nervous, I could not get through. So where is the chain that will keep us together This much is true My Love is real Until it stops Don’t you wanna go down like old Mayakovsky, in a sea of blue. And if I was the king, she’s the knife in the water There’s so much to loose When my love is real. Until it stops So throw up your hands for south California, and not a lot to loose I would not sleep until I tried every way to bring your little black heart back Love is real Until it stops |
Greg Brown – Spring Wind Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I first learned of Greg Brown and this song from singer/songwriter Hayes Carll during his guest DJ gig at radio station KUTX Austin on 2013-07-20. "Spring Wind" was one of the 13 "songs Hayes Carll can’t live without." See Hayes Carll's song list at kutx.org/my-kutx/my-kutx-hayes-carll and check out Greg Brown at gregbrown.org |
Joseph Arthur – Almost Blue/New Lyrics | 12 years ago |
This song used to be titled "Almost New." From a fan site linked from the JA site: "The song was on a very rare EP called "Bonus Tracks" (around 2002) which was distributed internally among Virgin Records employees. The title of the song was then "Almost New". The song is finally released almost 10 years later !" |
Joseph Arthur – Almost Blue Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Right, now it says "We are not authorized to display these lyrics." I think it is because of that thing I saw added at the end of the lyrics before they were blocked. It said: "Almost Blue written by E Costello Lyrics c Universal Music Publishing Group Lyrics powerd [sic] by LyricFind" There's something weird going on, here. |
Joseph Arthur – Almost Blue Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I have no idea why that extra bit appears at the end of the lyrics. I did not include it. It says "Almost Blue written by E Costello / Lyrics c Universal Music Publishing Group / Lyrics powerd [sic] by LyricFind" This is a Joseph Arthur song. As far as I know, it has nothing to do with Elvis Costello's album of the same name. I wasn't anywhere LyricFind, either. I don't get it. What's going on? Sorry for the confusion. I hope I didn't break anything. |
Man Man – Life Fantastic Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Oh, fer cryin' out loud, I give up. Look up Procol Harum (that's a band) and their song "Whiter Shade of Pale." It was a single (1967, I think) and on the ablum Procol Harum. Then look up "trip the light fantastic" on the phrases.org.uk site. It describes John Milton's and Chaucer's uses of the phrase. Sorry for the weird posts. The explanation was set out beautifully but wouldn't post. Annoying. |

Oh yeah, and fandango is a cuban dance. It's also a style of music for that dance. It can also be used to mean "act foolishly," probably from how one moves in the dance but there, I'm only guessing. |

Hey, CapricornChickie. Why you straightening your hair? Don't ya know you're amazing just the way you are? |
Ian Hunter – When The World Was Round Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Have you noticed it? In the last 5 or so years there's been a shift in the basic rules of human decency. Kindness, compassion, common sense, responsibility, integrity, honesty . . . where'd they go? Ian sees it. There's a paradigm shift parallel to the shift that occured (metaphorically, perhaps) when it became clear that the world was not flat and the universe did not revolve around the earth. When man's basic truths change, when our model for the primal forces of nature is shattered, what are we left with to navigate? Stunning song. Gut wrenching to the point of bringing me to my knees. |
Avi Buffalo – Remember Last Time Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This song, in particular, has that serious Wilco vibe in the instrumental. Tastes like "Impossible Germany." |
Teenage Fanclub – Baby Lee Lyrics | 13 years ago |
No. The lyrics aren't deeply moving or insightful. The melody, however, kicks ass. |
LCD Soundsystem – Drunk Girls Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Sah-weet! How cool is that? I love what he says here: "Once you find out it sounds like that, you just have to allow yourself to use what you like, or else you’re trying to hide it–and that’s usually a way to make a boring song. I’d rather have a song I like that sounds like another song, than a song that I’m hoping nobody notices sounds like another song that I’m not that into." Thanks for that link. |

Danny & Dusty – Song For The Dreamers Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Whoever posted the lyrics on Wynn's site musta been drunker than D&D were when the made the record. What a bitch! That'll teach me to post w/o checking, even if it is from the artist's site. If I missed something, post in the comments and I'll try to get back to edit it. That line about twenty-five wiles doesn't look right to me. Holy crap. I submitted the lyrics that are on Steve Wynn's site but some of them are pretty wrong. Go figure. I didn't notice 'til I spotted "big friend Quinn" which I'm pretty sure is "big Fred Gwynne." I'll try to clean it up before I pass out for the night. |

Bee Gees – Nights On Broadway Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Song Review by Donald A. Guarisco -- AMG http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=33:wpfwxzt5ldje This Bee Gees hit represented an interesting fusion of the new and the old for the group: its dance-friendly rhythms updated their sound to fit the disco-conscious 1970s pop mainstream but deep down it was the kind of dramatic pop tune that they had always found success with. The lyrical theme of unrequited love was something the group had long explored on notable songs like "First of May" and "I Can't See Nobody," but it had a directness that those songs never had: instead of pining away for his love, the song's narrator actively quietly pursues her as he blames it all "on the nights on Broadway/singing them love songs/singin' them straight to the heart songs." The music also pushes the envelope for the group by replacing the string-laden grandeur of songs like "Run to Me" with a streamlined melody whose taut rhythmic swing mirrors the urgency of the lyrics. The Bee Gees' recording draws the song's rhythmic quality further out by allowing a funky rhythm section built on a synth-layered bass line to dominate the verses before adding washes of ethereal synthesizer to sweeten the chorus. Barry Gibb gives a strong, dramatic lead vocal (with Robin Gibb adding layers on every other stanza) and is matched in intensity by the group on the chorus, where they trot out their soon-to-be-infamous falsetto vocal harmonies for the first time. All these elements added up to a moody but catchy tune that consolidated the success of the prior hit "Jive Talkin'" and paved the way for future, more overtly disco-styled hits like "You Should Be Dancing" and "Stayin' Alive." Composed By Barry Gibb/Maurice Gibb/Robin Gibb |
Bee Gees – Nights On Broadway Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Q: You can only keep one Bee Gees song. Which one is it? A: There’s a lot of great ones. Maybe "Nights on Broadway." That has one of the greatest bridges. I’m not really a fan of bridges but I love that one. I don’t like when a song goes from one mood to another unless it’s going to be out of sight. That bridge is incredible. from: Spoon's Britt Daniel talks about the Bee Gees' influence on his music By ANDREW DANSBY Copyright 2009 Houston Chronicle / April 15, 2009, 3:11PM http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ent/6374653.html |
Pernice Brothers – Weakest Shade Of Blue Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I may have heard this used in a TV commercial for Sherwin Williams paint. Since I was on the other side of the house, I can't be sure what I was hearing coming out of the TV, but I swear it sounded very Pernice. It's a kinda odd choice for a paint commercial, even though it IS a fine song by a great band. Sure got my attention. |

Cold War Kids – Something Is Not Right with Me Lyrics | 15 years ago |
To patbenatar: Something is not right with you. ;) You guys always think a song is either about being gay or about drugs. There's more to life, ya know? I think y'all have been brainwashed by Mom, Dad and the Mass Media. That said, this song isn't particularly deep or anything. Still a good song, tho. 'Girlfriend' is one of the greatest power pop songs of all time. It's the title track of the f'n brilliant 1991 Matthew Sweet album. The real beauty/passion of the song is in the guitars so, if you wanna relate, you should hear it -- not just read the lyrics. ------- I want to love somebody I hear you need somebody to love I want to love somebody I hear you're looking for someone to love 'Cause you need to Be back in the arms of a good friend And I need to Be back in the arms of a girlfriend I didn't know nobody And then I saw you coming my way I didn't know nobody And then I saw you coming my way Don't you need to Be back in the arms of a good friend Oh 'cause honey believe me I'd sure love to call you my girlfriend ****snip**** And I'm never gonna set you free No, I'm never gonna set you free http://www.songmeanings.net/songs/view/124604/ ------ *********************** ------ gave me quarters to select a song on the the jukebox that gets people dancing, should have never chose "Girlfriend" ------ Dude is saying that he played the song "Girlfriend" on the jukebox. |
Titus Andronicus – No Future Part II: The Day After No Future Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"And I, too, felt ready to start life all over again. It was as if that great rush of anger had washed me clean, emptied me of hope, and, gazing up at the dark sky spangled with its signs and stars, for the first time, the first, I laid my heart open to the benign indifference of the universe. To feel it so like myself, indeed, so brotherly, made me realize that I’d been happy, and that I was happy still. For all to be accomplished, for me to feel less lonely, all that remained to hope was that on the day of my execution there should be a huge crowd of spectators and that they should greet me with howls of execration." -- Albert Camus, The Stranger (L’Étranger) (1942) |

Robyn Hitchcock – What You Is Lyrics | 15 years ago |
From Yep Roc: Robyn Hitchcock "The title refers to two long nights spent in Oslo in 1982 by Morris Windsor and myself with some friends," Robyn Hitchcock says of Goodnight Oslo, his new Yep Roc release with his ace combo the Venus 3. "The album, in part, celebrates the ghosts of the smoke age, and the various ways they were wrecked but still sailed on. That's the way it is with humans. You could call it the comfort of doom. Goodnight Oslo is a vortex that I am still leaving." *snip* The qualities that distinguished Hitchcock's prior work are prominent on such Goodnight Oslo tunes as "What You Is", "I'm Falling," "Hurry For The Sky" and "Up To Our Nex," which carry a hopeful, healing and unmistakably playful vibe that reflects the ongoing evolution in Hitchcock's lyrical perspective. "These songs are largely about breaking out of a negative cycle, and believing that change can happen," the artist asserts, adding, "It's not a recovery album or a therapy album per se; it's just a sign to the exit. Of course, it's sad to say goodbye to what you know and what you've been, but nothing is solid." |

Doves – Shadows Of Salford Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Anyone know if this is just a reference to the town or, might it have something to do w/this passage from Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens? "We are on the way home now, though of course, it is all pretence that we can go to so many of the places in one day. I should have had to be carrying David long ago, and resting on every seat like old Mr. Salford. That was what we called him, because he always talked to us of a lovely place called Salford where he had been born. He was a crab-apple of an old gentleman who wandered all day in the Gardens from seat to seat trying to fall in with somebody who was acquainted with the town of Salford, and when we had known him for a year or more we actually did meet another aged solitary who had once spent Saturday to Monday in Salford. He was meek and timid, and carried his address inside his hat, and whatever part of London he was in search of he always went to Westminster Abbey first as a starting-point. Him we carried in triumph to our other friend, with the story of that Saturday to Monday, and never shall I forget the gloating joy with which Mr. Salford leapt at him. They have been cronies ever since, and I noticed that Mr. Salford, who naturally does most of the talking, keeps tight grip of the other old man's coat." |
