i thought i ought to comment because, well, i fancy this song :) its otherwise ordinary, heavily repeated chorus is nicely complimented with unique vocals and a poppy rhythm guitar to create a lovely sound. oh, and i savvy the disbelief in coincidences. and yeah, to hell with love.

The Grass Roots – Let's Live For Today Lyrics 17 years ago
why were the 60s so hott?

a revival of 19th century romanticism.
natural ideals, emphasis of the soul, carpe diem, etc.
the song; simple, but so passionate.
GOODNESS, it's beautiful :)

The Moody Blues – The Best Way To Travel Lyrics 17 years ago
this is why i love the moody blues :)

very transcendentalist in nature; but i'm opposed to the amphtetamines claim. i mean, is there a greater high than the imagination? i'm not denying the moody blues were recreational drug users and no doubt influenced their style, but it just seems more than anything substantial, you know? maybe i'm just a hopeless, hyper-analytical optomist. not that drugs are bad ;) GOODNESS, i'm not very good at this.

Pixies – Wave of Mutilation Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is brilliant.

I don't agree with the suicidal claim.
My original impression was drugs.
Like, getting high..?

It's all a matter of interpretation.
The Pixies are tricky.
Very symbolic & twisted.
Which is the majority of their appeal.
The whole mysterious element..
But the intro is sickk.

The Strokes – Someday Lyrics 17 years ago
this song is lovely.

i love the incorporation of ramanticism with realism.
if that makes any sense.
like, the whole "darling, your head's not right."
it's logically adorable.

the entire song is lyrically brilliant.
& something about the guitar progression.
is a major turn on.

ps, julian casablancas is my lover.

Louis XIV – Finding Out True Love Is Blind Lyrics 17 years ago
Aha, wellllllllllllllllllllllll.

I'm a girl =). So naturally, this song made me question the band's intentions. Aha, I'm not going to go all feminist on you or anything, in fact, I had a different take on the song; well, at least different to what seems to be the general consensus. I found the whole song ridiculously ironic.

The title itself is pretty self-explanatory; "Finding Out True Love is Blind". The intentional receptiveness of the phrase after every stanza emphasizes that statement to an extent that it’s difficult to just brush off as meaningless. Basically, the purpose being to recognize how love now & days is “blind”; essentially, solely based on physical appeal, as well described in the song. Aha, a little too well. I’ve personally only listened to a minimal amount of Louis XIV, so I’m not sure if their typically ironic/sexist, but I definitely find this particular song a complete contradiction.

Or maybe that’s what I’d like to think, because I have an equally ridiculous appeal to it.

Oh, and am I the only one who finds that the female part is sung by a guy from the band halarious? Ahaha, and do they pant at the beginning?...just curious.

Eagles of Death Metal – Bad Dream Mama Lyrics 17 years ago
I figured I'd be the first to comment =)

Aha, so I'll be honest. This is not typically what I listen to... it was on a mix from a friend, & I was immediately inclined to the sound of it; it had a strange appeal... very upbeat, catchy drum rhythm, chord progression, heavy bass... Aha, but first impressions are deceiving.

The lyrics are a bit.., chaotic, for lack of better words. I'm assuming it's very sexual. "...man-eating woman / So sophisticated"--quite the oxymoron.

I have neither the will nor desire to attempt deciphering the rest. If anyone else has a clue/opinion, I'd be interested.

Keane – Is It Any Wonder? Lyrics 17 years ago
Ever get that feeling when you're listening to music that just feels you with happiness... like the world makes sense? As cliched as that may sound, I believe it happens. Like when a song perfectly connects to your life and you feel revived... so alive.

Well, regardless of whether anyone agrees or even reads this, this song did that for me recently. I'll be honest... I'm definitely more of a 50s/60s girl, despite my age. Musically at least; well, in most social aspects... Anyway, I have this notion that music was more meaningful then... but then I hear songs like this that make me question my mentality.

Yes, it consists of a heavily repeated chorus and much of the same material instrumentally, but there's something about it that's so powerful. It's delivery and over message is definitely unique for it's era, in my opinion. Not to say all current music is bad or anything, I think it's just lost it's art. Well, relating that to the song, sometimes I question whether or not I belong to today... how "love" has been misused and abused... it's like, you assume when you're a kid everything's okay, and then reality hits. You come to the realization that you're not quite sure what you think anymore. And it makes me scared.

Maybe I've over-analyzed the song & that was not the artist's intent... the whole society analogy... but I'd like to think it is. I can see the whole break-up thing, but I think it's more than that. Regardless, the lyrics are brilliant & I like it very much =)

Three Dog Night – Joy To The World Lyrics 18 years ago
A brilliant song... so liberating. =)

I have to disagree about the claim that the song has "no meaning", although I can agree that almost anybody can relate to it. The song has soo much meaning; it's incredible.

Strange enough, apparently the song was INTENDED to be 'nonsensical'. According to wikipedia, "Axton [the song writer] wanted to convince his record producers to record a new melody he had written and the producers asked him to sing anything for words. He sat down and put these words to the tune."

Now, either I am simply over-analyzing the song [which is a silly proposition =)] or Axton was more musically inclined than the site credits him for. If you read the lyrics and listen to how they are projected, you can't possible believe it was written to accompany the melody. It has so much passion; you can really understand and relate to the 'hippie' idea whether you experienced during the time period or not.

The song was released in 1974 during the epidemy of the 'Hippie Era' during the Vietnam War [1965-1973]. Ironically, the original band was active from 1968 to 1975; obviously the war very much influenced the band.

What I love most about the song is how it is delivered... any song can have good lyrics but if it is sang without emotion, it is essentially meaningless. I love this song because you can feel the energy of the band, and it's a wholelotta fun. =D

...About the religious references... it's an interesting perspective. I realized that Jeremiah was a significant figure in the bible [although I highly doubt he was a 'bullfrog' ;)], but I never connected the 'king of the world' to 'god'. I don't believe that the bands' objective was religious, but it's a neat theory.

...now I'm feeling silly for all of this analyzation. The song really speaks for itself =)

"Joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea, joy to you and me" --love it!
