Rush – Earthshine Lyrics
|
The "third hand grace" line is very interesting, and excellent poetry. Earthshine is seen when you look at the moon and notice that part of the dark side is illuminated. The dark side of the moon is dark, of course, because it isn't facing the sun, so the way it is lit is when sunlight reflects off the clouds of the earth and, like a big cosmic mirror, bathes the dark side of the moon. The earth is therefore illuminated "first hand" by the sun. The moon is illuminated "second hand" by the earth. The lyricist is then illuminated "third hand" by the moon. |

Rush – Good News First Lyrics

The term "benevolent universe" refers to various essays, journal entries and letters by none other than Ayn Rand. "The Benevolent Universe Premise" is; "a view of the world that suggests we are well adapted to live in it, that success and happiness are not only achievable, but are likely if you lead a good life".
Not surprising that Neil would further distance him from the ideology of Ayn Rand. It's pretty ridiculous at how closely he has been associated with her writings from the days of 2112. Anyway, great song. Love the spooky verses, and the beautiful middle-eight. |

Rush – Stick It Out Lyrics

Wow, can't believe nobody has commented on this song yet. One of Rush's "heaviest" songs, emphasized by the guitar of Alex Lifeson.
As for the meaning, it's pretty self-explanitory. Stick up for yourself, trust your own decisions, believe what you want to. Stick it out. |

Dire Straits – Romeo And Juliet Lyrics

This song was inspired by Mark Knopfler's broken romance with Holly Vincent, who was the leader of the band Holly And The Italians. Some of the lyrics indicate that Knopfler felt she used him to boost her career.
The line, "Now you just say, oh Romeo, yeah, you know I used to have a scene with him," came from an interview where Holly Vincent was quoted as saying: "What happened was that I had a scene with Mark Knopfler and it got to the point where he couldn't handle it and we split up." |

-nemt
"Is it just me, or is the voice used for the latter part of the song VERY gay?"
Well, nemt, yes. It probably is 'just you' who think's that. Aside from your personal right to an opinion, I don't see how the word 'gay' can be used so blatantly in defining a Rush song, or a part of it.
I'm really getting sick of these narrow-headed neanderthals like yourself who generalize everything they dislike with a false and ridiclious stereotype against homosexuals. You, nemt, should go browse through a dictionary and fill your vocabulary with something other that bullshit.
Anywho.
Rockin' song! Love the rapping by Geddy. Can't wait for the new album! |

Rush – Between Sun and Moon Lyrics

Taken from 2112.net:
"There Is a Lake Between Sun & Moon" by Pye Dubois, 1992"
This is the original poem submitted to Rush which was revised and released as the song "Between Sun & Moon". Pye read the poem at the second annual Kumbaya Festival, Sept. 4, 1994, at the Forum in Toronto. The linernotes of the cd release commemorating the event, Kumbaya 1995, contains a transcript of the poem, although the cd does not contain the reading. The cd does, however, contain Alex Lifeson's jam with other Canadian musicians on "All Along the Watchtower". |

Basically about how Ray Kroc buying the McDonald's franchise from the McDonald brothers and expanding it. Although, you've gotta be stubborn like Kroc to succeed. Great song. |
