Cradle of Filth – Under Huntress Moon Lyrics

What does this song mean to me?
To me it means... I really want to sit on Dani Filth's dick.
Or at least praise him for writing such a great song about the goddess Diana, and indirectly about reverence for the beauty and power of nature. |

Type O Negative – Pyretta Blaze Lyrics

I think it is about a woman who has so much sex appeal that she's pretty much on fire, and the singer considers her his first and final love because he's consumed with her. |

Type O Negative – World Coming Down Lyrics

I agree, this song should be longer. It's already 11:10 minutes, but it should be at least 15. I've never heard a song that was so honest and genuine about the nature of personal anguish, that also conveys its message so easily it requires no interpretation. |

Fiona Apple – The First Taste Lyrics

I believe KKC789 is exactly right, but I'd like to add that the black (of night) is replacing HER blue, rather than the blue of daylight (although that is also what is happening). She's waiting for sleep so she won't have to pine.
The line that gets me the most is "I'm building memories on things we have not said." She says so many things with JUST this one line! She has no indication of his feelings for her by his words, but rather by the way he acts around her. Her memories are based on what's unsaid, what she has to interpret. And because all she has to go from are her interpretations of his actions, this is her way of asking for him to stop fumbling around and VALIDATE her analysis and her feelings. |

Recoil – Curse Lyrics

This song is basically about what it's like to be alive today--to live a life of materialism, think that all knowledge is based around "facts," and to experience pain of a nihilistic nature |

David Bowie – Underground Lyrics

I don't think this was written simply to go with the Labyrinth, although the themes seem to match up well. If you imagine this song without the movie, then it's probably about angst and wanting to die (to go "underground"). |

David Bowie – Fill Your Heart Lyrics

"This song was written by Biff Rose and Paul Williams." So what? Musicians carefully choose which songs they cover, and context is the ultimate creator of meaning in music.
I agree with Alicelove fully. |

River Wolf is right.
This song is just... brilliant. Especially the last verse, but hell, anything that uses Classical allusions fucking rules.
Probably my favorite CoF song. |

This song literally brought me out of a decade of depression and thus saved my life, not that any of you care. |

Man, I really feel him. I agree with Whiffet, it's definitely about drugs. I've put holes in my brain and I wish I could swap it with someone else's. |

I'm too much of a spaz to interpret this in depth.. it's about leaving someone and missing them (duh). but MAN is it catchy and danceable |

Type O Negative – Wolf Moon Lyrics
|
It's pretty repulsive and yet very erotic at the same time. And there is something spiritual about it when he sings, "wolf moon, come cast your spell on me." He seems to be asking to have this "curse" put on him as well, like he envies the power of a woman. It's funny that this is spiritual when Pete has said that he's not spiritual at all |

The Cardigans – Communication Lyrics
|
I think it's about someone with Avoidant Personality Disorder, or some kind of social phobia. She's had this communication problem for 27 years, where she sees even invitations as threats, and she's still disconnecting even though she's found someone who has the patience to help her and be with her. |

The Rasmus – Not Like The Other Girls Lyrics
| 17 years ago
|
He needs to help his girl through her suffering, but apparently he's loved someone who committed suicide before and he should have known. She can't understand why she gives so much love to the world but only pain is returned. He wants to save her, but he's powerless and now she's going to fade away...
It's so sad! I get all choked up every time I hear it. |

this song is HIM's flirt with doom metal, me thinks. Doing it in their own way, of course. |

Apocalyptica – Bittersweet Lyrics

I believe this song is meant to be listened to from a distance. The words lose their distinction, and if you listen to the song as a whole the vocals actually closely resemble cellos in sound! I believe this might also be the case if you were to listen to this song and were not an English speaker. |

The Cardigans – Iron Man (Black Sabbath cover) Lyrics

At first I didn't like this cover, but it's really growing on me. I think it works really well where it is placed on the First Band On The Moon album. Near the end, right before Great Divide, right after losers. It bridges the songs together very well, in context it could be about a losers she sang about, getting revenge... |

It's strange, she's singing about how love drains those who are in-love, but at the same time she is begging for love because she is dying without it. |

The Rasmus – Back In The Picture Lyrics

I don't think it's necessarily about being single and lonely, but more about feeling alone in general and hopeless about life, and feeling dragged down by the past, and then realizing that there's so much to live for. |

CKY – Inhuman Creation Station Lyrics
|
I think it's about the process of indoctrinating society with morals, and not encouraging people to question authority, where morals come from, or why (or why not) the morals we imbue our children with are right or necessary. After awhile it just becomes easy to keep passing down the same morals from generation to generation, whether or not we find them wholly agreeable. It's also saying that people wouldn't naturally choose these morals for themselves necessarily, and that we have to mold peoples minds to keep them in line with society. |

HIM – Pretending Lyrics

I agree, HearMeWhisper. That's the meaning I like best, actually, but I didn't think anyone else could see it that way, 'cause many HIM fans are extremely touchy and closed-minded about the relationship between religion and HIM. Glad to see someone making the connection.
No matter what this song means--and it's so ambiguous it could mean a thousand different things equally--I honestly believe that this song is a masterpiece, and can only pray that the band'll make more with such craft in the future.
One thing that I love is that it is circular. The image Valo gives us in the beginning, he returns to for the finishing of the song. It recalls many writings in Ancient Greece that would use the same format, to emphasize the importance of the image for the meaning of the text.
The song is also amazing in its minimalism--it is just astounding that so much ambiguity (and yet solid meaning) could be gathered from so few lines, in repetition.
When I read these lyrics I often feel like I'm reading cryptic wisdom from some ancient religious text... gosh it's so good!! |

Jefferson Airplane – Somebody to Love Lyrics

I don't think this is about heartbreak in a romantic relationship. It seems to be more about someone who's found out that he/she doesn't have any real friends. The truth ends up being that they were lying and don't really care about you or care about having you around. It could have something to do with what fame does to friendship, if you're famous some of your friends will give you special treatment like you're a guest and they won't really be honest. |

HIM – Venus (In Our Blood) Lyrics
|
It's actually "seven towers above dark waters," not severing tides.
As for the meaning, let me quote Ville! "In some old myth, the seven towers and the water in the ocean are Hell - that's in the chorus of the song. In a way, it's a song about a young person who shouldn't be taught and subjected to religion, but who should instead figure out things in their own mind. And it's not necessarily just about religion - it could be about world politics as well. And of course, there are secrets in that song that I won't reveal."
