St. Vincent – Hysterical Strength Lyrics
|
I think she's referring to a suicide on this one.
On the first part the person is talking to a relative (a parent) "it's your blood and I tried to give it back to you"
On the second she's talking to a younger version of herself, as if trying to warn her of the mistakes she made "don't hold more than you can stand to carry" maybe she means of repressed feelings being too heavy a load.
She then describes something that people who has suffered of depression can relate to. Sometimes just standing up, getting yourself out of bed, just keeping the routine requires some of that 'hysterical strength'
The last lines could be a last message to someone she blames for her despair. Someone who kept pushing her, and trying to control her life (maybe the same guy she sang about on Marrow) and she blames him for getting her to that point of misery.
I'm not very articulate, but there's my two cents. |

probaly the most blues-y song on the album. I can even picture the ladies working the field and singing this song altogether. |

Yes, I think she's putting into words the exhasperation and impotence anyone feels when, in spite of feeling you are a self-determining individual with your own ideals and goals, you can't help but feeling also controlled by the outside world |

Alex Kaprano`s mix of this song is rad!
I think she's describing a desperate situation, someone who's having troubles and thinking of suicide. no idea. |

It's so beautiful how she can write a song about loving crying (over someone or just because) and not sounding 'emo' or depressive at all. |

I don't think so. Animal are pretty unique.
And I love this song, now that I've read the lyrics I love it even more. A lot more. Lennox is a genius, definitely. |

Anja Garbarek – Can I Keep Him? Lyrics

The line "Can I Keep Home" is wrong. She actually sings the title there, "Can I Keep Him?". And Anja stated that this song was inspired in the serial killer Dennis Nilsen. |

it describes quite fine the feeling of hiding from someone. You know, we've all had a time after a break up or doing something embarrassing in a relationship when we are just too scared of meeting the other person. |

The Knife – Marble House Lyrics

The Knife themselves have said they are not sure about what the song means (!) but they suggest it is about a devote person, that dedicates his life to something as long as it helps to avoid loneliness. |
