| Wow.. this song is intoxicating... I absolutely love it!! I think its about being so invested emotionally into someone else.. where you care about them so much even though you know that the relationship is not equal in the sense that the other person is probably playing games and doesn't care about you as much as you care about them. BUt the thing is that the they know you how much ur invested in them and no matter how badly they treat you you will always come back to them.. cause in a way ur "addicted" to them.. "I wont let you bury it..." part just means that you see the potential that you guys have and so you don't want to let the relationship end even though you know deep down that its not real to beging with.. This song is great! I love the metaphor in the title! Also i definetly agree with some of the comments made above about how the song is about people resorting to plastic surgery in order to meet society's standard of beauty. "Twenty-Twenty Surgery" : I think thats soo true.. and very cleverly put.. Its like plastic surgery is, figuratively speaking, the new type of eye surgery as it makes people more visually "attractive". My interpretation of the last 2 lines " your soo sensitive, And i am a machine" could mean that people are more sensitive about their appearance and so they try to fix their insecurities by eliminating their flaws thru surgery. As for the I am a machine, it could mean that these sensitive, insecure, rich people are becoming more mechanical in the way they live, and the way they follow all the same fashion trends,... i don't know, theres probably more to it, but anyways that's just my take on it. Either way this song is awesome!! One of the best on the CD fer sure!! |

I love this song!! Its honestly soo addictive.. It kind of makes me think of "lover i don't have to love" by Bright Eyes for some reason..no idea why cuz the song meanings seem in no way related.. :S Anyways, I love how the chorus of this song plays on the sterotypes of guys and gurls in terms of what they seek out of sex: Guys being the ones that seek the physical aspect of sex, hence they are driven by testosterone (their hormones), And gurls being the ones who seek the emotional aspect of sex and so they are more romantic types, thus the reference to harlequin novels. In the end, they both want the same thing buit for different reasons. Its like someone mentioned ealier about the two sexes coming together... Anyways this song rocks and so does P!ATD!! |

ok i may be wayy off.. but i just thought of a possible interpretation for this song.. So when he says "You've got this new head Filled up with smoke..." hes saying that she can't see clearly as he sees things, maybe she had been hurt in the past and doesnt want another relationship and so shes got this new way of thinking.. She frequents bars and picks up guys and so she hides from relationships and commitement. "Long night spent with your most obvious weekness.." her weekness is her desire for sex or the physical attachement and this excites her .."start shaking at the thought.." "You are everything i want.." She is the opposite of him.. he wants a relationship, a commitement, and he plays it safe, whereas she seeks excitement now and wants casual flings instead of a commitement with one person.. and so he wants her (kind of like when you wana be with someone that will teach you something but at the same time you can teach them new things..each person brings something new to the relationship) or perhaps they differ in views about love and he wants to prove her wrong really badly.. Obviously, "we lay close.. but not too close.." they may be dating or sleeping together but deep down he knows he doesnt have all of her ( her commitement to him only, her emotional attachement, maybe all he has is physical, but thats not enough for him.) "I wanna break you down so badly.."he wants to break down the wall that shes build up (because of perhaps bad experiences that shes had with relationships in the past..), and maybe tame her, make her his.. but she keeps refusing him..saying no.. "I trip over everything you say" and it hurts him.. or maybe this line means that he likes her soo much and everything she says makes him only like her more.. he falls more and more in love with her..(when you trip you fall.. i dont know..) "scissor shaped across the bed.." Shes probably a player and so getting involved with her can be dangerous.. he could risk gettin his heart broken because of her lust ( she is red, red = lust) and the "hollow out my hungry eyes.." he really wants her and keeps trying to make her his but she keeps rejecting him.. but hes "Gonna make damn sure that [she] wont ever leave.." hes not gona give up on her because he thinks shes worth fighting for... (aww cute!!) And maybe relating it to the video.. she views relationships as something disasterous.. but he wants to show her that they can be something beautiful.. anways i dont know.. thats what i got from it.. i may be totally off tho :S Btw their new album is great!! I got the impression that this song was about a drug addiction.. "She is in my bloodstream tonight she's leading me The moon is filled with red's and blues follow where she leads into the darkness" When he says "she" he means the drug.. its in his system and hes hallucinating.. "Trying out my fangs, she's a ghost, a silhouette Calling out my name" The drug is calling out his name... "I never thought we'd end up this way You are the worst, I am to blame" Hes saying he didnt think that his addiction could get this much out of control, the drugs are the worst.. possibly because of how they are controlling his life and hes to blame for letting them, or for giving in each time.. "So close the door and lock it tight Then I'll know your safe tonight Turn on the song that means the most Believe im there and hold me close" Again hes adressing the drug.. he'll lock himself in his room.. and do them by himself.. like all he needs at the moment is the drug and nothing else.. I swear this song is my favorite!! its my stress relief!!! The first part is definetely about cutting. I also think that it makes sense how the rest of the song could be about getting over a drug addition. But the first time i heard this song i thought of it as like releasing frustration about all the people hating on someone saying that there a fake because of how they act or how they look or chose to modify their appearance. "Look at me. Can you tell, By the way I move and do my hair? Do you think that it's me, Or is it not me? I don't even care." And by the way that he repeats "Just look at me now! I'm a fake" like hes saying to people that they can think what they want. whatever there probably just hating because there jelous or something. Anyways, its probably not that the song is about, but that what i got from it when i heard it! :) |
