Opeth – By the Pain I See In Others Lyrics 15 years ago
Ok, I'm going to try to interpret the whole album so...

Deliverance I think is about the psyche of a serial killer. Wreath describes how is is slowly put into insanity by factors of his past, in fact the blissful singing could represent a symptom of multiple personalitities. Deliverance is the Killer going on the rampage, with his other side saying "I'm good" even though the protagonist know it's eveil. A fair judgement is regret about slaying someone close to him, maybe someone trying to help. "Master's apprentices" is him basically giving up, and letting the other side take over. "By the pain I see in others" is Shows how the alternate persona WILL NOT STOP!!! And the carnivaly sounding part hints he is an attention to detail, and is hard to catch because of that. The eerie sounding part at the end is the oblivion that the protagonist is in and will reside in forever. This is one of many interpretations, but many more are plausible, simply because Akerfeldt is such a great lyricist.

Tool – Reflection Lyrics 15 years ago
The whole writing of lateralus I noticed focus on 2 things

1)human relationships
2)Evolution of the human spirit/mind

The album of laturalus is simply about peace I think. If we just got along, instead of at each other's throats for things like religion (possible interpretation for schism)

Reflection is sort of saying cast all of this aside, get closer to the source (after hearing rumors that Maynard had found Jesus, I am inclined to take a more christian interpretation to the song. In other words living like Christ, you become closer to god and become washed anew, and reborn. or so christianity says, I'm an agnostic. For those not in the know Jesus preached during his life (or time on earth if you will) about loving thy neighbor.) and you'll become somethign else. Though I gave the example of christianity it can be interpreted in other religions (I heared Buddhism being tossed around). Also there's a sense of urgency in the "Before we pine away" lines of the song, possibly before you die (and go to hell?)

Nine Inch Nails – Reptile Lyrics 15 years ago
There are two possible meanings to this song:

Basically to interperate the song you have to take it from two different veiwpoints

1) someone with a gf who's an utter slut
2) Stalker/Rapist

1) Well she's sleeping around, she's unclean. And the speaker also feels contaminated by it.

2) This point can be argued by the break after the second chorus (With the sample of the woman crying over a mellow synth track) and trent's oh's (notice how they almost sound orgasmic)

Well simply verse 1, how he see's her sleeping with another man, possibly her bf/husband besides himself, and how he wants her from himself (hence she's a whore for not being with him) The chorus could be his thoughts as he's raping her, (lying about not being together note: most stalkers are absolutely convinced of being in a relationship with a person who might not even know them, A whore for sleeping with the other man, and a diesease of his mind cuz he can't stop thinking about her.) and he has trhe guilt for raping her (and possibly killing her)

Note the whole album of the downward spiral seems to revolve around the concept of an abusive relationship, which leads me to an interpretation of the album. What if the person speaking is NOT the protagonist in some cases. (Mr. Self-Destruct, Piggy, Closer, and so on.) What if it's someone who went insanely paranoid after getting out of an abusive relationship because 1) Since he/she controlled most of his/her life, he/she knows nothing else and/or 2) he/she is afraid there insignificant other will come back for them. This drives her to madness, and ultimatly to suicide. It might be a stretch but these feelings have been known to cause suicide in survivors of an abusive relationship, and feelings of numbness.

Nine Inch Nails – Eraser Lyrics 15 years ago
The song is actually an intro into "Reptile". I think the speaker was an abusive bf/gf, and the person he screams the last few lines too is his hapless victim, and he descibes the process of trying to forget an abusive relationship.

Need you (obsession)
Dream you (Ditto)
Find you (Hunting someone down after attempts at running away)
Taste you (Wait for it...)
Fuck you (there you go, rape)
Use you (fairly obvious)
Scar you (Beating)
Break you (physically and mentally)

Lose me (Leave me)
Hate me (same)
Smash Me (Anything with my image you smash)
Erase Me (From your past)
Kill me (In your head, or literally?)

Nine Inch Nails – The Becoming Lyrics 15 years ago
This song is about a man numb from depression, and it has changed him into something cold and hard. Hence the line "The me that you know/He used to have feelings/But the blood has stopped pumping/and he is left to decay" He is numb to the outside world, and quite literally he doesn't give a damn what happens to him (hiding backwards inside of me/I feel so unafraid), and the "Noise in my head" is his old self, his inner-child if you will, saying "GO AWAY, I HATE YOU! THIS IS NOT ME!"

In Flames – Dial 595-Escape Lyrics 15 years ago
In my opinion, the song is a repetitive cycle that you just want to escape. Life has become dead and boring and you want to escape. "Reality trapped inside" probably refers to a numbness you get from the same old shit again and again.

Tool – Jimmy Lyrics 15 years ago
Okay, the song is about an experience (probably traumatic) that changes a person forever. And now years later the speaker's trying to go back and find what was lost. And of course the inner child which he serperated from so long ago is simply standing in the past saying "where did you go? why did you leave?" And he holds a light so the protagonist can find him again. This song is personal probably, after his mother married his hated stepfather, Maynard was probably scarred. 11 could be a metaphor for that, or a seperation of sorts 11= two people seperated. 1=reunited.

Limbonic Art – Beneath The Burial Surface Lyrics 15 years ago
Simply put, it's a song about suicide. Lines like "this life I lead I exchange for death" and "Crossing the path to the world below". The spoken pat at the end is after the speaker's body is buried and the mourners have left, his soul goes on into the afterlife. Great song!
