R.E.M. – Mr. Richards Lyrics 14 years ago
I had my fingers crossed that it was Keith Richards. But he hasn't done time in decades. The Michael Richards thing would make sense. But as the first comment stated, it must be about the bush administration guy. Obviously because Michael Stipe is anti-Bush.

The Velvet Underground – Sweet Jane Lyrics 14 years ago
Cover of Mott The Hopple? Are you fucking kidding me? You're telling me that Ian Hunter wrote this song and Lou Reed thought he'd cover it? Weak buddy. This is the clever genius of Lou Reed and a lot of the reason why he left the band. The album "Loaded" was remixed without any of Lou Reed's consent after the recording of the album. The coda to this song which I'm surprized nobody has mentioned yet was taken off the recording thus never heard in the studio version until "Fully Loaded" was released decades later. There are some live versions with the incredable coda but the tempo is slowed down substantially. The original song is a great song but the coda makes it about 10 times better in the "Fully Loaded" version. That's the part that REALLY gives chills down your spine. I would vote this song in my top 10 all time up there with those Stones, Who, and Beatles songs. This song is in the same ball park and deserves more recognition then it will probably ever get. God bless the Velvet Underground.

Led Zeppelin – Stairway to Heaven Lyrics 15 years ago
There's so many comments on this song, I can't even find the one I made last year because I don't know the EXACT date. It's time people got over this song. Or at least give up with the meaning. All these comments should be deleted and we could start a new one possibly because we all have more wisdom towards the song now.

Alice Cooper – I'm Eighteen Lyrics 15 years ago
This song is about the controversy of how 18 year olds were old enough to join the army but not old enough to vote. A big dispute at the time because Vietnam was still in action.

Alice Cooper – Be My Lover Lyrics 15 years ago
What turns me on about this song is the simplicity of it all. It goes to show that sometimes the best chords and lyrics are right infront of you. The backup vocals make it sound rockabilly it's great! This song must've been written by Alice's guitarist when he met some chick?

Rush – Xanadu Lyrics 16 years ago
Yeah Neal Peart was really into that shit but this song's least important features are the lyrics because instrumentaly it's genius in every aspect. Brilliantly structured song and the drums are out of this world. It's hard to believe that during that main part where Neal's doing sixteenths on the hi-hat, that there are only 3 instruments being played when there is so much going on. Geddy Lee is also one of the greatest bass players in rock music as well as Peart on drums.

Rush – Anthem Lyrics 16 years ago
I can't believe this band isn't in the rock and roll hall of fame already because they are one of the most surreal rock acts of the 1970s and 80s. People ignore anything that comes from Canada unless it's Neil Young, Joni Mitchell or The Band. Being a Canadian myself this really disturbs me. Anyways this song has a spectacular rhythm especially in the intro where Neal Peart plays along with the guitars perfectly. Rush's record label is also called "Anthem" but i'm not sure if the song was made before they signed with anthem. I'd need some confirmation. RUSH FOREVER!

Electric Light Orchestra – Xanadu Lyrics 16 years ago
This song was actually a Rush song before it was an ELO song. Completely different. And it beats the shit out of this version. One of progressive rock's finest efforts.

Bob Dylan – Simple Twist of Fate Lyrics 16 years ago
I listened to this song on magic mushrooms last night and I couldn't believe the words that were going threw my ears. Bob Dylan is the best lyricist in the history of song writing. He describes things so discretely it's almost like he read a lot of Ernest Hemingway during this time period. Thank you Bob for making believers out of us all.

Bob Dylan – I Shall Be Released Lyrics 16 years ago
The lyrics posted here are correct, but the 1st and 2nd verses need to be switched around. That's the lyrical order for the Band's version. Becaue I know that Dylan's original version starts of with the line "They say every man needs protection." As for the meaning of this song, I simply think the prison themes used in this song are all metaphors. Because when you think about it, Bob Dylan would never be in prison. It is possible he's talking about someone else and using that person in 1st person but I think he's just talking about the grief and sorrow that comes along in life. And he knows that in time he shall be released from it all.

The Who – 5:15 Lyrics 16 years ago
This song's theme reminds me a lot of the themes in "She's Leaving Home" by the Beatles. When children leave their homes and have nowhere to go. But in 5:15's case, Jimmy's on amphetamines and doesn't realize what's going on. This is also one of The Who's finest rock and roll songs and some of Townshend's finest song writing. Truely the best song on Quadrophenia. The rythm piano is riviting.

Spinal Tap – Big Bottom Lyrics 16 years ago
Yeah that is embarrasing. This song makes fun of so many rock acts of the 70s. Queen's "Fat Bottomed Girls" as mentioned above. And the subject of using sexual metophors in lyrics like Robert Plant used to do with Led Zep. But one very orginal approach is having the 3 overlapped basses which sounds a lot better than you'd think it would. Although this song is supposed to be a joke, I think the lyrics are pretty fuckin' brilliant.

My baby fits me like a flesh tuxedo.
I love to sink her with my pink torpedo.

Love that line. Spinal Tap was a great ficticious band.

The Tragically Hip – Wheat Kings Lyrics 16 years ago
Yeah true he spent over 20 years in prison which is at least a quarter of his life taken away. But when he was proven innocent, the Canadian government gave him $10 million which is enough money to never have to work a day in your life. Plus when he was a kid, he was a rebel without a cause who wasn't going anywhere. Gordon Downie never ceases to amaze me in his poetry. Genius in every sence.

This song is so brilliant. The drums are the show in this song just like so mnay other Zeppelin songs. Least favourite song on IV but still nonetheless amazing.

Led Zeppelin – Celebration Day Lyrics 16 years ago
There was actually supposed to be a drum intro to this song but on of the roadies accidently deleted over while trying to sneak a listen in the studio. After that he ran out of that place scared shitless. It's one of Zeppelin's greatest mysteries.

Led Zeppelin – Black Country Woman Lyrics 16 years ago
The drums in this song are spectacular. Bonzo's one of the most gifted, brilliant drummers of all time. It's a nice acoustic blues medley. The themes used in this song have blues written all over them. Getting dumped by a chick and then going for her sister. Just like Red House by Jimi. Just another great song off an even greater album.

Keith Richards never really was a heroin user? Are you insane? The guy did it everyday for 20 years. He even got busted in Toronto for possetion of heroin in '77 and he did a concert for the blind to get outta jail. Keith Richards is one of the most notorius drug users of all time and that includes alcohol. And he survived it all. He can still functrion properly now unlike Ozzy Osbourne. Keith might be the toughest fucker on the planet. Anyways this song is sweet. They played it in concert when I saw them and Ron Wood played the slide lap guiytar. It was un.

The Rolling Stones – If You Can't Rock Me Lyrics 16 years ago

The Rolling Stones – Can't You Hear Me Knocking Lyrics 16 years ago
I think when the song turns all Jazzy and shit and Bobby Keyes starts playing the sax is the finest part that song never lets go for 7 minutes. One of the most under-rated songs in the history of rock and roll. It really defines what the stones are all about and nobody realizes what and amazing accomplishment it is. It's not on 40 licks so the younger generations won't even be aware of the amazing possibilities this song contains.

Led Zeppelin – Stairway to Heaven Lyrics 16 years ago
10 reasons why this is the greatest song of all time...

1) It paved the way for just about everything that's followed.
2) It was never a single, which makes it unique.
3) Hands down the greatest guitar solo of all time.
4) The song in itself is a stairway to heaven as it gets rougher as it goes on.
5) Bonzo's drums are monsterous.
6) The most played song on FM radio.
7) The versitility is remarkable and easy listening to anyone regardless whether you like Zep or not.
8) It was written at a time when Zeppelin fans who loved Zeppelin I & II turned on the band after they did Zeppelin III because it was too soft.
9) You can play the song on any occasion whether it be relaxing or partying down.
10) Nobody knows exactally what it means. There are different opinions and a lot of them are logical but the meaning of the song is truely whatever you want it to be. That's the beauty of the song as a whole. If you think it's about paths we choose to take in life or it's about the LOTR. It's whatever you god damn want it to be.

Paul McCartney – Band on the Run Lyrics 16 years ago
4 comments on one of McCartney's greatest songs. I love the soul in his voice when he says "Rabbits on the run" in the second verse. What a voice. And I swear if you listen very closely to the backup vocal when he says, "If I ever get outta here," it sounds a lot like John Lennon. Listen to it and hear. This song always puts me in a good mood when i'm down.

Eric Clapton – Tears In Heaven Lyrics 16 years ago
Oh, so everyone comments on this song and none of the other ones from the unplugged album. This song is great don't get me wrong but everyone knows it's about his dead son falling to his demise off a building. Which I admit is very sad but Clapton also has lost a lot of friends over the years. (2 years before, some of his band members died in a helicopter crash along with Stevie Ray Vaughan)

Eric Clapton – Nobody Knows You When You're Down And Out Lyrics 16 years ago
OH MY DEAR LORD! Nobody has commented on such a fine piece of music that displays what Clapton plays and sings best. THE BLUES! What a performance on the unplugged album. This song kind of sounds like it could be from a Jack Daniels commercial. The backup singers really give the chorus more support. I play this song all the time on my guitar. It's great finger picking. Anyways on with the meaning. I think it's about how some people who you think are your friends are just using you for something you have and they don't.

submissions
Eric Clapton – Layla Lyrics 16 years ago
Obviously one of the finest songs ever written. In no way is it about oral sex. That's far from Clapton's style of writing. After he says "You got me on my knees", he says "I'm beggin' darlin' please." So he's simply getting on his legs to beg for her, not to eat her out. Anyways, i've always love the duo guitar approach in this song. The lead guitar is played by the late Duane Allman of the Allman Bros. Band who died shortly after that recording in a motorcyle accident. He was also one of the greatest guitarists of all time along with Clapton. The end Piano coda will always remind me of Goodfellas and really is the theme to that movie.

Eric Clapton – I Shot The Sheriff Lyrics 16 years ago
I wouldn't say Clapton's rocks more because his version has a slower tempo and the vocal approach is rather suttle. But I see what you mean when you compare it to Bob's. Both versions are spectacular but Marley's voice is too soothing to say Clapton's is better.

Eric Clapton – Hey Hey Lyrics 16 years ago
How come nobody on this site likes Eric Clapton's unplugged album. It's the best of all the unplugged albums and won some grammy's in the process. This song is fingerpicked with a handful of other songs on the album. Clapton is simply playing the blues he craves and loves. Can't blame him.

The Who – A Quick One While He's Away Lyrics 16 years ago
I think this song inspired Bohemian Rhapsody with a handful of other Queen tracks. Especially the 4 part harmony at the start. I don't know what was going through Pete Townshend's head when he thought of writing a rock opera. Maybe it was excess that drove him to it but all I can say is "What a genius."

submissions
Black Sabbath – Sabbra Cadabra Lyrics 16 years ago
Yeah this song's about finally finding the woman of your dreams. This was a maturity point for Ozzy and Black Sabbath. I think Tony Iommi's guitar riff for this song is incredibly under-rated. Rick Wakeman of Yes helped out on playing the piano and synthesizers on this song. They really make a difference when they're on top of the menacing guitar parts.

submissions
Led Zeppelin – Hots on for Nowhere Lyrics 16 years ago
I never really paid much attention to any of the lyrics on the album "Presence" as it was their weakest studio album. Although I still say it was a masterpiece guitar driven album. Page really worked hard on this one despite his drug addiction he was dealing with at the time. This song is sweet. It's got great rythm.

Led Zeppelin – Good Times Bad Times Lyrics 16 years ago
It's amazing that the first song on the first Zeppelin album is the same style they adapted throughout the seventies. An incredibly raunchy guitar riff, fast bass solos and Bonzo's rapid right foot the shows the bass drum no mercy. I think Zeppelin wanted their 1st song to be competely out of this world and they wanted to display all of their individual talents on their respected instruments.
