This song is about two lovers, that for whatever reason, can't be together, except they once were.[1] The metaphor of the sky and earth suggests there's a world between them. Yet, day or night, rain or shine, they are remain on the top of each others minds. The 'sky's gonna break' and 'mountains are gonna fall, Into the sea' suggests (at least one of them) enjoys the fantasy of all being revealed the eventuality, i.e. 'one of these days letters are gonna fall, From the sky telling us all to go free' [1] The metaphor takes cues from the Big Bang Theory that the sky and the earth (mountains) were once one mass and were made 'to never fall away'. This is metaphorically consistent with Plato's Symposium [2] [2] Plato's Symposium: "We pass our whole lives together, desiring that we should be melted into one, to spend our lives as one person instead of two and so that after our death there will be one departed soul instead of two" |
