i ll have to disagree about the vocals. there are better, like Geoff Tate (my personal favorite). But i will say that you could possibly argue he is the best lyricist, though that would be difficult to prove indefinitely |

Soungarden released numerous albums after badmotorfinger, chris cornell wrote a solo album, and now even after Soundgarden broke up he is still writing with the instrumentalists from rage against the machine (new band Audioslave), Chris Cornell is not hospitalized for mental instability. But yes it is a fantastic song and should be read to fit yourself, it shouldnt mean the same thing to two people. And it is a well written song relating a struggle of the mind |

Oh my god. This site should be exclusively for musicians and song-writers. You all see music and think it has to mean one thing. Well, music is poetry set to more feeling. You can't take one phrase and ask it's meaning! If you'd do that, you will be sorely disappointed (most composers can't answer that about their own songs).
1. look at the whole song
2. Remember nothing has to be literal, and in fact the majority of music is figurative-by this it prevents claims that a song was written for a certain person
3. even a song that seems literal most likely has a figurative meaning. it's what makes music beautiful
what might be more helpful to know the true meaning might be an interview with vedder.... but it would kill what it means to me |

Im afraid if you found a tied meaning between two consecutive songs schizima, it is a 99% chance that youre wrong. I agree i like the flow of the album but artists dont write songs that way and they are put in a different order on the cd than the way it was recorded. Albums usually do have a group of songs with a similar feel because they are written in a ceratin era of emotion, but most dont write songs for their songs.

Youre damn right he's an underrated lyricist.... just listen. he is damn good at what he did
And for those of you who think you know the meaning of the songs he writes, think again; he is rarely literal and the only sure way to know the meaning of his songs are to talk to him.
