Sarah McLachlan – Adia Lyrics 18 years ago
This is a beautiful song that stops me in my tracks every time I hear it.

I read somewhere that she kind of was writing to herself, but it was about a situation with her best friend, where she ended up with the guy she was in love with.

But it really doesn't matter.

It's all about interpretations. What makes a great song is when it touches you, no matter what the actual event that sparked it was. What I originally took from it was that there was a very strong bond with a close female friend that nearly turned into something else. It didn't work out as no matter how much she wanted to, she just didn't feel the same way as her friend. She doesn't have issues about her friends or her sexuality - 'we are born innocent' etc, but its just not meant to be. I thought she wanted to be there for her friend, but coudn't be there the way she wanted - and theres no one to BLAME for that, its just the way it is.

In the end she would always be there for her, but had to leave her to go through what ever she was going through. No matter how she tried to make her friend see how amazing she was, it only would muddy the waters andthe friend had to get there on their own.

But like I said, I am pretty sure thats not the actual situation that inspired the song.

By the way, I am pretty new to this tinternet malarchy, but have to be honest as much as I am a fan of free speech, I think its sad that theres a few close minded individuals who think its ok to slag off same sex relationships - pathetic!!

Embrace (UK) – A Glorious Day Lyrics 18 years ago
I love this song, definately one of their best.

I agree with venderfan. My interpretation for those lines are that they were only togther for a few days, and even 3 years down the line nothing has ever quite lived up to what he had.

Whilst it's a beautiful song, I personally think that he is wearing rose tinted spectacles, as if it was that great - why did it end? If they were only together for a short period of time, how much can you really know someone in that short a space? By living in the past he is not moving on, maybe it's a useful guise for other issues or inadequacies.

.. by the way, sorry for the emotional transference!

José González – Heartbeats Lyrics 18 years ago
I think this song is beautiful. Haunting.

What I take from this is the situation of being with someone for one night, someone that you love but for what ever reason you can't be with. You both knew it was there, and whilst its sad that it can't be, theres relief in finally realising that it was real, if even just for a moment, he was not alone in those feelings.

'One night to be confused
One night to speed up truth
We had a promise made
Four hands and then away
Both under influence
We had divine scent'

or is that way off?
