Doughgun the answer to your question is simple. He is talking about anarchists and Liberals. Though unions are a more anarchistic and communistic structure most liberals support unions as ways of maintaining the status quo. So anarchists, communists and liberals alike marched and rioted for the 8 hour work day as opposed to the 12 hour work day. The second part of the line refers to the 1999 Seattle WTO protests. There were many different kinds of people there. Anarchists thought it was best to show the corporations and masters that they meant business and that they would try to financially hurt the corporations because the way to hurt a corporation is in the wallet. So when anarchists started breaking starbucks windows, nike buildings and banks some liberals started complaining that the anarchists were being "violent" even though the actions were against property and not people. Some liberals even got confrontational and tried to prevent the anarchists from destroying the stores. Can you believe that at a protest against corporate abuse and exploitation that some protesters would stop others from getting back at the corporations? Jhavzus: Sure world trade benifits the Governments of the nations involved but what about the people of that nation? For example through WT chinese crops flood the Mexican market and the farmers in Mexico can't make a living. The farmers are the ones who are losing. So when the farmers have no money and they are broke what do you think they do? They immigrate to America illegally and get exploited by rich businessmen. Then they get harrassed by white trash rednecks in the US when it is the US's fault that illegal immigrants are here. World Trade is a death machine. I think the lines with the bands are there because the fake activist thinks he is a communist because he listens to these bands not because the bands are sellouts(which I don't believe they are). I certainly know that the people from rage are not sellouts. Infact this last weekend I went to an art show/music show/activist meeting/ spoken word gathering/ Chicano community gathering where Zack de la Rocha was playing with some of the guys from Ozomatli. They were singing songs about the killing in the middle east and stuff like that. Zack is still getting his message out there. Sure there are some dumbasses within the ranks of the true activists but that doesn't mean these bands are sellouts. The funniest thing at the activist meeting I was at was when a band got off everyone went outside and supported Phillip Morris and all those other big tobacco companies by smoking up a storm. |

Josh there are always going to be people within music that hate on bands that do something different. The fact is that on Fat Wreckords they were preaching to the choir. With a big label supporting them they can get a lot more people thinking about what they say. I live in LA and their song Press Corpse is now on KROQ the biggest radio station in the world. They have a line in it that goes " you cowardly wave the flag". If that is not punk rock then i don't want to hear what punk rock is supposed to be. With a big label they can reach listeners that wouldn't have naturally listened to them. Sure not all will grasp the message but some will and then some will think about what they are saying and then some will read a book and then some will get mad and that is the whole point of their music. |

Hey Bored1 don't change your mind because of a fucking high school History class. History in anything below college is so dumbed down that if you listen to it you will be fucked up your whole life. The best thing to do is read individual books from all over the spectrum on history. If you want to learn about Libertarian Socialism(Anarchy) pick up a Noam Chomsky book. You obviously don't know much about it. If in your theory someone killed your family the killer would not go unpunished. I don't know what would happen to the killer but they would definately not just get off free because it is a different gov. style. So read up on it. There are different styles of Anarchy. Anarchy does not neccisarilly(sp?) mean killing, death and fire. Read up on it. |
