Chroma Key – Colorblind Lyrics 15 years ago
It seems to be about someone who knows colour by its RGB values and all the technical properties about it, but physically can't see it. Same with sound, he can't hear the 'colour' on his radio but a satellite would be able to know it from the waveforms in the signal.

On a more metaphorical level, maybe Kevin is trying to complain about the way that computers can replace the senses that we already should have naturally, and that you can look at things too scientifically or technically instead of using our "god-given" instincts. I also have this funny little idea that the song is about life from the eyes of a robot. The robot doesn't know what "senses" are, and he sees everything with its exact color values, breaking them down to just red, green and blue, as they are primary and "other colours fade anyway"
Just an idea. Excellent song though.

Porcupine Tree – Anesthetize Lyrics 15 years ago
Listening to the third part with headphones almost made me fall asleep. Not because it was boring or anything, but because it's so incredibly beautiful and peaceful at the same time.

Candycakes has it more correct I think. Anyway, its' DEFINITELY "employ" and not imply. Makes more literary sense that way, and it just sounds like it.

0disintegration, there's no video clip as far as i know.. I know there was a fan-made video using clips from the film He Died With A Falafel In His Hand (which was actually done quite well) but no official clip...

Blackfield – Some Day Lyrics 15 years ago
I actually thought the last verse was the weakest part of the song... Maybe I'm just misinterpreting it, but the song seems to describe someone who is not fitting in, then assures that it'll be better some day and it won't be so bad, which i thought had a nice meaning to it, but that verse just confuses me, it just seems to contradict everything else. Nice song anyway, and i think it's one of the two times that wilson has ever swore in a song (the other being "shit" on Fear of a Blank Planet)

Porcupine Tree – Trains Lyrics 16 years ago
Did anyone else notice that "Train set and match" could be a pun of the Tennis terms "game, set and match"
I don't really think it has any relevance to the song, it just might be one of Steven's little clever wordings.
I think the song has been analyzed well, it's definitely something to with nostalgia and feeling like the summer passes away. I myself can relate to this idea - i remember being young and the summers always being so happy and lasting forever, but now it seems they always end so quickly and I never enjoy it as much as i used to.
And as a bit of a sad coincidence, it relates to me in that i remember last summer i was kissing with this track playing in the background, and i'm single now this summer =P

Tbh, there's only so much you can interpret from all of the songs connected to the Deadwing storyline, and I'm pretty sure this is one of them. Awesome anyhow.

Rush – The Larger Bowl Lyrics 16 years ago
Nice song.
Lyrically its pretty simple - and tbh, Rush have already done this whole argument a few times before.
i think the line structure is interesting in that it repeats lines but in different places to where they'd normally be...
definitely not the best on Snakes & Arrows though, but good nonetheless.

Aside from what it means to the Deadwing story...
This song is BEAUTIFUL.
I'm not one to get really moved by music but this did it.

Porcupine Tree – Russia On Ice Lyrics 16 years ago
I always thought it was about a relationship breaking up because of his alcohol problem, not him drinking after the break-up... that would explain his attitude of "can't stop myself drinking, can't stop being me" it's almost like an argument between the couple, and she says she hates him the way he's become by drinking so much.

The bit that really creeps me out is the last verse. "A drop in the ocean" immediately got me thinking that he dumped his girlfriend in the river, but probably not, in fact on second thought i think he threw himself in the ocean and drowned. "Russia on Ice is burning a hole" - I'm assuming this would mean burning a hole in his heart, because the alcohol is the source of why he's gotten like this and as a consequence it meant he lost his significant other.
I might be wrong, but that's my understanding of it.

I love this song.. It makes me remember being really young, staying at home and being ill, and my mum taking the day off work just to care for me... ahhhh, childhood. mind you i'm still 15 but its not quite the same anymore =P

Porcupine Tree – Sever Lyrics 16 years ago
I love this song, but every time I hear them say "ESP" in the chorus I hate it, it sounds too much like they're trying to squeeze it in where it isn't needed..lol maybe i'm just being picky but that actually spoils the song for me =|

first comment? wow.
This song is awesome, the meaning is simple and not really worth explaining, but the lyrics describe it in a pretty interesting way.
As a song its leet though \m/

Anyone notice how this song's intro is in 7/4 timing? I guess Wilson couldn't keep his prog tendencies away from Blackfield =P

Porcupine Tree – A Smart Kid Lyrics 16 years ago
Yeah I agree with [Service to busy], it's ironic that the "smart kid" survived and that he's better than the others, yet in this kind of situation he probably wishes that he died along with everyone else.

Blackfield – Epidemic Lyrics 16 years ago
First comment!
I'm pretty sure this song is just about unreciprocated love for someone. In some parts it seems to be addressing another friend who he sought help from
"Don’t say everything’s okay
Don’t tell me that it’s just a phase
It doesn’t help me"
and later on,
"You say there must be an end
But afterwards we’ll still be friends
It seemed so easy"
It's described as an "epidemic" because of the love-sickness associated with it, and the fact that even if he tries he'll seemingly never be able to get it out of his head, and that as long as they stay friends it's still going to be there.

Pretty simple song lyrically, as are most Blackfield songs...
And is it just me or does anyone else think that Aviv Geffen isn't a good songwriter? Wilson goes on about how he let Aviv write all the songs because he believes he is a good writer, but tbh I can't find anything on the guess album written by him that is actually that good. Lol i Wilson had to give him a bigger part just so he didn't complain =P I quite like Aviv's vocals though, but yeah, Steven all the way.

Porcupine Tree – Piano Lessons Lyrics 16 years ago
I agree with (most of) the above stated.
I think it's Steven Wilson's reaction to finding out that at the end of the day, it all comes down to money in the music business, and while there's still an artistic and musical sense to recording music, there's an equally heavy amount of pressure on selling. He's also criticizing talentless sellouts, which is to some extend what he feels like (Although he's fucking talented, I guess he's just feeling like he didn't have to do much to get to where he is.)
The entire album is a very personal one, and Wilson has stated that throughout the album he was writing songs mainly just about his own thoughts exclusive to him.
The last 2 bits in reference to love doesn't seem to fit in too well, but I think that it might be because he sees his position now and looks back on a situation where he could've led a much more typical life, with someone who he'd loved, but instead chose to pursue music. He realizes how it "should have been" and is reflective of his choice to be a professional musician.

Porcupine Tree – Four Chords That Made A Million Lyrics 16 years ago
I also thought of Smells Like Teen Spirit as soon as i saw the song title... it seems to mention about Kurt Cobain's sudden transformation into a leader of the whole "Generation X" thing, especially with:
And then a moron with a cheque book
Will take you out to lunch who knows ?
He will tell you you're a savior
And then he'll drop you like a stone

In a way it also seems like PT are trying to make it even more ironic by making the song to be a lot more catchy and mainstream sounding than most of their other stuff - made even more evident when the instruments stop and they say the chorus in A-Capella, which is a feature of loads of mainstream poppy stuff.
Porcupine Tree rule, and Wilson is a genius. \m/

Rush – Bravest Face Lyrics 17 years ago
MattK87 pretty much hit the nail on the head. This song is saying that the world is nor perfect, in fact it is far from it. It hints at seizing the best things in life and making tthe most out of it, such as in the first verse
"It's got a sunny point of view
and sometimes I feel it's true
at least for a few of us."
And yeah, put on your bravest face when embracing the darker things in life because it is the only way to get through it. I feel the whole album is about getting through bad times, this and Faithless are my favourite songs of the album. The whole thing is bloody good though.

System of a Down – Vicinity of Obscenity Lyrics 18 years ago
I think i have a slight idea of this Me and my friend discussed this together. It IS about sex. Although i have no idea about the terracotta/banana line, the chorus does make some sense. See, there is such thing as a 'footjob' meaning, well go figure. It's a weird kind of pornography. 'Whores with bad feet' suggest the 'whores' who do this sort of thing. 'beat the meat' suggest masturbation, which as you can guess, is part of the action that the whores perform. again 'treat the feet' says this. 'Milky Seat' is most probably referring to ejaculation.

I wouldnt know this if it wasnt for my friend, i'm just elaborating on what he told me. As i said before though, i have absolutely no idea what the bananaa terracottta part is. It seems to have a very nasty subject, but regardless of that it is a fantastic song nonetheless!
