Meshuggah – Elastic Lyrics 17 years ago
WHat is the difference between insanity and imagination? This is one of Meshuggah's deepest songs imho.

I think there is dellusion expressed in this song. To defend the word dellusion is, didn't we think Einstein and others as insane while we laughed, scoffed at their ideas or thinking?

The other part of this song sounds like a psycho. Thousand Watt obsidian bulbs... no view but the barren self. A mind not filled with thoughts but a random flickering static, to me it means, it means something personal as in the sense that this may be part of me who is traumatized or sociopathic, like how a cop gets after becoming jaded.

The conclusion is that psychopathy (Sociopathy) is a beneficial trait to stand up against the world and the dellusional insanity as I call it come together to put together a "genius" state of mind that can overcome the world. Of course the dumbest person can have brilliant ideas, and applaud this dellusion of my own.

This song is strengthening.

It's a call to arms against the establishment:

Their existence is a crime
Their seat, their robe, their tie
Their land deeds
Their hired guns
They're tha crime

Meshuggah – Rational Gaze Lyrics 17 years ago
Meshuggah seems to use psychological observations. Where these are derived from is your interpretation. Psychology, kabbalah, mysticism, come up with your own interpretation.

Many cultures believe strange things, like in kabbalah it speaks as if this world is an illusion. It doesn't even exist. It's "nothing". Now who is to say that the majority of humans have it right? A disturbing number of college students still believes that our eyeballs emit light causing them to see. Of course this is wrong, but the reality is that is counter-intuitive and that's what I think this song is about. Personally most meshuggah songs remind me of kabbalah.

Lamb of God – Vigil Lyrics 17 years ago
An homage to those have died for the values that are unreachable today. Americans revoltyed over a 3 cent tax on tea and papers. taxes now take a 1/3 of our money roughly. A patriotic song now for our forefawthers now seen in an unamerican light. Normalcy doesnt mean it's right. I'm a member of the armed forces, god bless america even though i hate him and let us prosper of our own free will and let us recognize that religion is the root of our time's turmoil.

Lamb of God – Remorse Is for the Dead Lyrics 17 years ago
A sad reminder that comes to my mind sometimes about the lyrics is: I read this book about true police stories. They had a case where a "family" lived in a dilapitated house, they ripped out the toilet so they peed in milk jugs and defecated in a corner piling it up. The heart wrenching part was they had a baby, and they found him dead trying to crawl under a coach. They whipped him to death with an electrical chord because the baby knocked over a jug of urine.

The lyrics are attrocious, but some psychologist believe that people who are depressed have a more realistic view of reality. It's easy to see why. Still this song is a work of art im almost ashamed to like because im a boy scout now.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Rocket Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is totally negative but that way for a reason. Blasting off like a rocket ship is the escape. From his own negative thoughts, from all the eyes that have seen that in him and keep him bound to it. He says F it and FU and blasts off becoming free from all the shackles.

Tori Amos – Bliss Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is a chick going crazy on her emotions. It's like a sugar high of emotions. I'd rather not have read the lyrics cause they're gay, but the song rocks. I'm sure Tori is going to make a song about how much I suck for saying that now.

Tori Amos – Putting The Damage On Lyrics 17 years ago
It's about a soldier who she liked. Somwhere along the line they got seperated. The soldier is righteous, fearless, valient, and can put the damage on. She admires these traits in him, even when he is putting the damage on.

I love the lines: "there's a light in your platoon... I've never seen a light move, like yours can do to me"

It's so meloncholy, yet comforting.

Love the french horns in this song.

Meshuggah – The Mouth Licking What You've Bled Lyrics 17 years ago
This is a "concept album", although it is vague, it says more to "unbox it in" then if it were to say things on-point. Psychology/feelings and perhaps perspective is this way. The way I see this, is some psychologist see that depressed/meloncholy/cynic people have a more realistic view of the world, while people who are happy are merely dilusional.

A Perfect Circle – Blue Lyrics 17 years ago
This song can be seen from many different lights or perspectives. I choose to see the optomism in this song. Turning blue means something special to me, and is actually a compliment. If this means "self destruct" it is still beneficial because you are becoming what you want to be. "while ijust sit and smile at you". To me this song means becoming who you were meant to become, moving from a pessimist to an optomist. Maybe a part of you does become blue and die, but you live on and it's for the best.... This sounds like typical Tool to me (third eye), it's just phrased differently. :)

Slayer – Angel Of Death Lyrics 18 years ago
I dont even think of jews or the holocaust when trying to imagine this crap. I do respect slayer, but this album is one of my least favorites. One of my favorite songs is "point" and a bunch of their new schtuff. Reign in blood is probably my least favorite album, the music just isnt very good. Jihad is a betterversion of this i belive. But the whole album plays like a 30 minute song, few cool riffs tho and raining blood is just fucking excellent.

This song plays more like a parable, or a fortune cookie; er the lyrics anyway. Hits hard if seen in the right perspective.

Depeche Mode – The Darkest Star Lyrics 18 years ago
The song, is soothing throughout like someone said. It's dark yet, focused and soothing. To me the entire album is like this, it's dark like NIN but it isn't masochistic. Also the chorus that serves as background vocals is eerie, but fits well with the mood.

The lyrics: To me kinda symbolize people who enjoy having a black mood, and those who see the world as a "loaded gun".
--
Stay as you are the Darkest Star
Shining for me
Majestically

I don't want you to change anything you do
I don't want you to be someone else for me

-very soothing

Gordon Lightfoot – Ordinary Man Lyrics 18 years ago
This song makes me think of highway patrol and the belief some people have that a good policeman is a rare breed... not your ordinary man. It's not pride that drives you on, but a lonesome restless feeling that you feel under the gun, and it leads you to the highway but it keeps your body warm. See what I mean?

Gordon Lightfoots reacurring theme of just a blue and meloncholy feeling is in this song... just as it is in most of his songs. Praying to return to the shelter of someones love at the end of his life. The strongest imagery is at the end: "You go with me everywhere. Like a shadow in the gloom. I remember all the good times, theres a ghost in every room." I don't think an author could write down feelings as eloquently as Gordon does in this song. My favorite gordon lightfoot song.

Gordon Lightfoot – Looking at the Rain Lyrics 18 years ago
Obsession. Being with someone you utterly fell head over heels for and then breaking apart. But not because it's your choice. Gordon lightfoot captures the feeling so perfectly with the imagery of not being able to think about anything else while he looks at meloncholy things, the rain, the wind, the trees... "feeling the pain of love lost running through my brain".

The suprising thing is at the end, and he emphasizes this "Waiting for a line to fall telling you its all a big mistake.... BUT THE WORDS WONT COME", but earlier he says thinking about the love thats gone is wrong. I guess its a song about rejection, and longing for that person. Great song.

Gordon Lightfoot – If You Could Read My Mind Lyrics 18 years ago
It's a shame few people could name another lightfoot song besides this one. Not to say this is a bad song, its just frustrating trying to understand why this one song gets so much attention, it's not his best.

This song as well as many of his others seem to have a meloncholy aspect to it. He tries his damndest to get this women to feel a way for him, but she just cant. There is no relationship, or more importantly an emotional connection with her so he dumps her. This certainly isn't Lightfoots best song.

I think this is actually two songs, but the feeling is the same in both of them.

You can look at this song from many angles, and i think thats what tool wanted. What does it mean TO YOU? Some people probably hear that fuhratic german voice and think of hitler, i actually admire it and listen to it over and over again... It's HARSH. But yet rallying and arousing like some demegogue... plants seeds... eggs... of satan... and still no eggs.

Tool – Reflection Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is about hitting rock bottom and finding nirvana there. It's a "horrible" truth that sets you free, realization of the inner self, undeniably intact, a solid ground always. Once you go there you can't come back, and there is always a small little voice in the back of your mind saying "Kill this facade you once were. It's not real, true (to yourself)" - hence the negative cynicism, i think (possibly heh). If you kill your ego and accept your inner self, you stop comparing yourself to other people and dont care what everyone thinks and says. We are all just reflections of one another, symbols and meanings we thought up in our minds, i think if you free yourself from this "cage" the reflection shifts in an almost holy light.

But don't over analyze you say? It's just a song about hitting rock bottom and finding nirvana.
