Semisonic – The Gift Lyrics 13 years ago
I agree a lot with Lorna about this song's meaning. I think that it is about a one night stand sort of thing, but the singer wants more than that: a relationship. He loves this person, but she probably only wanted him for sex and now wants to move on. He want her completely, to know who she is, her past, her secrets.

Really is an amazing song. It reminds me of some really hard times I went through years's very meaningful.

The meaning I get is that it's about suicide, or death... maybe involving drugs...

Is where I drew some blood
(Under the bridge downtown)
I could not get enough

It makes sense to me. Very sad, but very full of meaning.

Keane – Snowed Under Lyrics 16 years ago
The singer just came upon a grand realization: he doesn't need to take crap from this girl anymore. He doesn't have to take everything she says so seriously, nor does he have to let it get to him.

I don't know why I waste my time
Getting hung up about the things you say
When I open my eyes and it's a lovely day
You know sometimes I feel like I'm
Getting snowed under with the things you say
When I open my eyes and it's a lovely day

Instead of getting hung up (or snowed under) by what she says and does, he's ready to dig out from under all that snow and see the light of a lovely day.

This song really helped me through a trial just like that.

I suppose this would be refering to a relationship in which both people knew it wouldn't work in the long run, but they go for it anyway, for a short time, hoping...

All along I said we'd be sorry
Sorry, and so we are
But ain't that the way that
The way that the wind blows

But they aren't compatible, and they know it. The relationship ends, and it is hard on both people. But it's just the way it is meant to be... the way that the wind blows.

I really, really love this song.

Shawn Colvin – Sunny Came Home Lyrics 16 years ago
I don't know about all this 'metaphorical' and 'symbolic' stuff, but the way I've always seen it (and has been reaffirmed by hearing the song again) is that this song is about a woman who has left her husband for a while because she suspects he's having an affair. When she finds all the proof she needs, she wants to exact revenge:

Sunny came home with a list of names
She didn't believe in transcendence
It's time for a few small repairs she said
Sunny came home with a vengeance

The list of names refers to the women her husband has slept with, or some other proof of his actions. Now that she knows, she is pretty pissed off. It's driving her crazy. All she can think to do is burn down the house, with her husband in it, to get revenge. She gets the kids out an lights a match...and that's the end of that.

Light the sky and hold on tight
The world is burning down
She's out there on her own and she's alright

After she has burned the house down, she is on her own but now more liberated than ever. Her whole world has changed... but it's better now.
