I think keep safe to my soul is "keep sifting my soul" - a Silhouette reference.

Pretty good lyrics so far. I think most is correct. Some things are off although I have no idea what they should be instead. But I think that "you warned our reap your reckonings" should instead be "you'll one day reap your reckonings"

Thrice – Motion Isn't Meaning Lyrics 14 years ago
Here's what Dustin wrote at altpress about this song.

The image of the carousel was the first thing I started thinking about-this idea of movement, but it's very meaningless, and not actually going anywhere. You're riding this horse that's moving in a circle, and also just that image of the old carousels, where you can grab the brass rings. So the idea is moving nowhere, and reaching for something that in the end isn't ultra-significant. That was the first metaphor I had in there. I wasn't sure if I was going to make it all about the metaphor and expand it, then I decided the whole song would just be various metaphors for this whole false progress idea.

Kind of sounds like he's talking about "circles", but its definitely listed under this song.

I don't understand how some people can say that every Thrice song is religious. Especially since Dustin has gone on record saying that. In the case of the sonnets, he has said (in many articles) that each sonnet is about each element talking to Man.

Thrice – Daedalus Lyrics 16 years ago
Just a few corrections:

1) It's "feathers I stole from THE birdS"
2) At the end, he says "Oh GodS", at least it sounds like it the first two times, and that would also make sense in regards to the Icarus myth.

I think this song is about God and how he teaches us all to love again.

Thrice – Digital Sea Lyrics 16 years ago
Here's the official lyrics that Dustin posted at alchemyindex.com

I woke, cold and alone, adrift in the open sea; caught up in regrets, and tangled in nets, instead of your arms wrapped around me. And I wept but my tears are anathema here, just more water to fill my lungs. I hear someone scream, “God what is it we have done?” I am drowning in a digital sea; I am slipping beneath the sound. Here my voice goes, to ones and zeros, I’m slipping beneath the sound. A song from somewhere below, deadly and slow begins. Both sickly and sweet, now picking up speed, and ushering in the world’s end. And the ghost of Descartes screams again in the dark, “Oh how could I have been so wrong?” But above the screams still the sirens sing their song.

I wasn't going to say anything, but you just had to open it up in this thread. This song is obviously Christian-related and influence.. but that my no stretch makes the band a Christian band. Thrice have even gone on record saying they don't call themselves a Christian band. Jesus.. you people are so closed-minded sometimes.

Again, I repeat this:

Here is what Dustin wrote about this in the Vheissu S.E. booklet:

"The lyrics to this song were inspired from a documentary on the Apollo moon missions called 'For All Mankind.' The second verse specifically is talking about a dream that one of the astronauts had the first night he slept on the moon. I wanted the lyrics to have a much broader scope than just literal interpretation.

I find it funny how people make this song out to be religious, when doesn't writes on the record...

"This song lyrically sums up a major theme of the record, and affirms that we are beings of unconditional worth, regardless of what the world says we have to offer. It says that we have a choice in what we do, and that everything matters. It says that because of this, we have a responsibility to look out for those who can't look out for themselves. And if you choose to believe these things, it will change everything about the way you live and the way you see the world."

Clearly, not about God - from Dustin's own words. You know the funny thing? I am religious, and I can understand this is not a religious song.

Thrice – Red Sky Lyrics 18 years ago
Here is what Dustin wrote about this in the Vheissu S.E. booklet:

"I remember writing the lyrics to this line before anything, at least two years ago. I just had an image in my head of looking over the side of a ship at the water passing by. The rest of it kind of grew from there I guess.

An interesting little tidbit Dustin wrote in the Vheissu S.E. booklet:

"The idea of 'the word that can save us all,' was something that I had been toying with for a while, and was originally inspired by the end of the film 'The NeverEnding Story.'

An interesting little tidbit that Dustin wrote in the Vheissu S.E. booklet:

"This is a major nerd reference, but the 'sand will cover you' line, which was the genesis of the song, was taken from the Sci-Fi channel's mini-series version of Frank Herbert's 'Children Of Dune', which is based on the 2nd and 3rd books in the Dune series.

Thrice – Like Moths To Flame Lyrics 18 years ago
This song had another verse, that was later cut out becauseit didn't tie the song together too well, but the lyrics did tie the rest of the song together well. Here is what Dustin wrote what is was:

"Though others fall away, I know I never will.
I've stood by you before, I'm standing by you still.
But if you'll not permit my sword to speak, then what am I to do.
I fell the shadows drain my courage, but in them I still follow you."

Here is what Dustin wrote about this in the Vheissu S.E. booklet:

"These are some of my favorite lyrics on the record. The song in general was probably most inspired by the chapter in the book called 'The Sermon,' which is a retelling of the story of Jonah, and is in my opinion the best part of the book, coupled with the previous chapter, 'The Pulpit.' I'm a real nerd for alliteration and this song is saturated with it..."
"I was reading 'Moby Dick' a little while before I wrote this, and a lot of the images are inspired by parts of that book."

Thrice – The Earth Will Shake Lyrics 18 years ago
Here is what Dustin wrote about this in the Vheissu S.E. booklet:

"The lyrics to this song were originally inspired by a C.S. Lewis poem (big surprise) called 'The Prudent Jailor,' and the 'black nights without moon or stars' line is pulled from the poem as well.

Thrice – Between the End and Where We Lie Lyrics 18 years ago
Here is what Dustin wrote about this in the Vheissu S.E. booklet:

"The lyrics to this song are very visual and were all based off the 'Daylight' lines in the chorus. I messed around a little trying to write some lyrics based on the underground parts of the book 'The Silver Chair' by (you guessed it) C.S. Lewis. The 'sunlit lands' line is a refernce to it still.

Just because he's a Christian doesn't mean that he sings about the bible in every song. I'm Christian, I don't sing about the bible in all my bands songs... most my bands songs I don't actually. Only have the songs on Vheissu, I think, have biblical references. This one, not one of them.

Dustin says this song is too beautiful not to be a love song. Tin cans and string is a metaphor. Some children tie string to tin cans and and use them as phones to communicate to their neighbor freinds. The rest is kind of obvious about him being away from his love.

Thrice – For Miles Lyrics 18 years ago
I think this song is about the band. It's about the hardships they've been through as a band and how they've overcome them to be more than a band, but best friends through the process. The title "For Miles", I think, relates to the journey that the band has been through and how they've travelled so far and got so far.

I don't think it's a tribute. It's more of a "response". Dustin talks more about Lennon's logical flaws to his message.
