David Bowie – Suffragette City Lyrics 16 years ago
speaking of misheard lyrics, for years i thought the line was "the smell of that chick just put my spine out of place".

Pink Floyd – Interstellar Overdrive Lyrics 16 years ago
one of my all time favorite instrumentals. am i alone in that this reminds me of another great, albeit pre psych tune, wipe out, by the surfaris? as far as credits being given for lead and backing vocals, i think its just inside pf humor. keep in mind, they also released "a collection of great dance songs"

Bruce Springsteen – Blinded By The Light Lyrics 16 years ago
bet the lyrics included with the record contain no references to being wrapped up like a douche, either. check out dylans subterranean homesick blues for springsteens probable inspirational prototype. and by all means, dont waste your time trying to find the secret meaning of life in the words. itll ruin your enjoyment of both songs.

King Crimson – Pictures of a City Lyrics 17 years ago
what i find amazing is, once you get past the ITCOTCK album, the comments on king crimson songs fall to practically nil. once you get past the obvious misspelling of city, the lyrics of the song seem to suggest a drunken dancehall patrons after hours car chase of his dream girl dance partner from earlier in the evening resulting in her death behind the wheel. more to the point, musically, i think this song points to the work fripp, wetton, bruford, and co. would do with larks tongues, starless, and red. to me these three are essential crimson recordings. oh, back to the song at hand; good song. its off the in the wake of poseidon album. also worth a listen.

Toto – Africa Lyrics 17 years ago
i think rusty and rev have the most interesting interpretations, but i dont know if either is correct, assuming a correct interpretation is possible. could be a love song, could be a 'nam song, i dont know. maybe africa is a metaphor for something else entirely.

so much for any lucrative career opportunities as a lunatic, oh well.

Pink Floyd – Bike Lyrics 18 years ago
i won't even try to decipher the lyrics, but i think this is syd, not only at his most brilliant, but also at the outer threshold of his sanity. i'm amazed at the number of entries here for this song. if i'm not beating a dead horse about syd's hallucinogenic intake, check out the album cover of "the piper at the gates of dawn". look at syd's eyes. the pupils are huge. also, check out the back cover ink drawing. i used to have all this stuff on 8 track, i'm afraid that dates me somewhat. before i digress any further, in my opinion, had syd kept it together, pink floyd would still be regarded as a groundbreaking band, but not as PINK FLOYD, the classic rock icon we recognize today.

or maybe one of these days eugene is going to cut you into little pieces. just an observation.

Pink Floyd – One of These Days Lyrics 18 years ago
consider another early floyd song with rather minimalist lyrics, "careful with that axe, eugene". could it be one of eugenes victims immortal last words as eugene utters "one of these days ..." as said victim is rendered into "little pieces"? just an observation.

The Guess Who – American Woman Lyrics 18 years ago
i'm american, and although this song is definitely anti-american, i like it. one needs to remember this was recorded when the vietnam conflict was going on, and nixon was in office. i don't know about the statue of liberty tie in, but it would be as a metaphor for the u.s. i also remember an early 80's cover by a euro metal band called, i think, krokus. inferior to the original, as is lenny's version, but how often does a cover improve on the original? i can think of a couple songs hendrix covered, but those are exceptions, and not rules.

Tommy James And The Shondells – Crimson and Clover Lyrics 18 years ago
This explanation occured to me while listening to the local oldies station. I believe this is a song about young love, and the first time. In the clover(romantic setting?), and her loss of virginity, hence the crimson. Maybe I've always misheard the line "my mind's such a sweet thing" as "my my such a sweet thing", but it still makes sense to me .
