Enter Shikari – Arguing with Thermometers Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Yeah, the line is "they'll plant their flags in the seabed". |
Hole – Be a Man Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Yeah, that's what it seems to be about. The only boy she understands doesn't buy into the dick-swinging stereotype of masculinity, and is ashamed by guys that embody that stereotype (and what the drive to prove your masculinity makes you do, like, oh, start wars and such). And now, a moment to note the delicious, delicious irony of this song appearing in the soundtrack to a movie about football. Sweet, sweet subversion. |
Afghan Whigs – Honky's Ladder Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This whole album sounds like it's about very bad people doing very bad things. This song's probably the biggest example of that... anyone else getting a Mr. Blonde vibe from the narrator? |
Murder City Devils – I Want a Lot Now (So Come On) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
As Spencer (quite drunkenly) said on the version on "R.I.P.", "this song's about growing up in Bellevue and coming to Seattle to see rock n' roll shows". First song of theirs that reeled me in, and am I glad they did. |
Just Jack – Starz In Their Eyes Lyrics | 15 years ago |
If it's about anyone in particular, hadar, I'd think Amy Winehouse. She almost seems to exist solely to be paraded in tabloids so people could shake their heads at her. Also, shannonmoorepop, not sure I'd make the Benoit connection, because really, how many of us knew what he was actually like? It is unfortunate that people can't separate the performances from the performer, but that's a different topic. |
Electric Six – Randy's Hot Tonight Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Randy's overdue to go out and actually impress people. Tonight, it's happening, and Dick's cheering him on and telling him not to blow it. |
Kanye West – Flashing Lights (feat. Dwele) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
The Caesar bit could also refer to him... he used it to refer to his hair before (as per "Diamonds from Sierra Leone") and the Rome reference is just cleve wordplay? Although it's nice to see we're not missing much, as far as lyrics go, in the video (unless these were pulled from the video). |
Face to Face – Disconnected Lyrics | 16 years ago |
No, but it is in the movie, missblackeyeliner. I forget which scene, but it's there. I think it's something involving a truck, if that helps, but I can't dig out the DVD at the moment... |
Run-DMC – Rock Show Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Maybe I'm the only one thinking this here, but, uh, isn't the backing part in the chorus "in the end its just a rock show"? Just saying. Also, who knew Stephan Jenkins wouldn't embarrass himself completely as a producer? It, uh, could be worse. |
Ying Yang Twins – Badd Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Eh, the best thing about this song was Girl Talk lifting the second verse and chorus for "Minute By Minute". Mostly because it's played over "Around the Way Girl" and "Regulate". |
Groove Armada – Song 4 Mutya (Out Of Control) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Well, that's because she was, Urm... . Then she got the boot or somethin'. Song's possibly about Mutya's replacement. |
TRUSTCompany – Hover Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Uh, the singers of Glassjaw, Deftones, or Tool are, last I checked, still alive. Thought you got that memo, crazyasian. |
Faith No More – Ricochet Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Well, now, that was hardly called for. I mean, yes, the Tool quote CLEARLY makes you a better person than anyone else could ever hope to be, especially since it makes the oh-so-ignorant assumption that whoever you think is a fuckwad lives in California. Or you didn't put that much thought in it and needed a nifty way to wrap up your comment... which, coming from you, must be The Most Important Thing Posted On This Site. Unless you didn't even think about *that* and just really like Tool, in which case, don't be such a jackass about it. Maybe you should take a note from the guy who commented after you. Well, at least the "don't be a douchebag" part. It's never too late to stop. |
Sense Field – Save Yourself Lyrics | 16 years ago |
(ding) You got it, jbreccos: the narrator didn't hold out until he found The One, and is amazed that whoever he's singing it to can. Then again, I hear it as "how you save yourself", not "could you save yourself". |
The Impossibles – Connecticut Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Did they just want to rhyme something with "Connecticut"? Ye gods. |
Soul Coughing – $300 Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Yeah, it's just you. The "I'll do it" kind of rolls off near the end of the line and right into the next "How much?" |
Scissor Sisters – Tits On The Radio Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"but why and how did Madonna plunder gay culture?" Vogue, and because. |
Caesars – Sort It Out Lyrics | 16 years ago |
...well, you heard the man. Get him some crack. Then five across his lip until he gets over her already. |
Reel Big Fish – Scott's A Dork Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Yeah, missing a few lines. Here now, the definitive masterworks. We like pizza but she doesn't eat the crust I like her and she loves everyone She said she likes my band but I don't even like my band I love her and she loves everyone I saw her kiss him last night, I'm sick now But it's just a little cold Scott's a dork Scott's a dork When I say "I give up" it just means I am going to try again She loves me and I love everyone I was kissin' her but she was wishin' it was him She loves me and I love everyone They told her, about you and me She's mad now but she'll get over it Scott's a dork Scott's a dork Dork, dork, dork, dork Dork, dork, dork, dork, dork Dork, dork, dork, dork Dork, dork, dork, dork, dork Dork, dork, dork, dork Dork, dork, dork, dork, dork Dork, dork, dork, dork Dork, dork, dork, dork, dork You'd think that after all this time She'd change but, she didn't Scott's a dork Scott's a dork Scott's a dork Scott's a dork Now she's walkin' out the door, I don't need her anymore I love her |
The Juliana Theory – Shell of a Man Lyrics | 16 years ago |
So, really, what the hell HAPPENED to the Juliana Theory? Emotion Is Dead: good. Love: great for the first two songs, then this song completely derails the album and undoes everything they've ever done in their careers. It just. Drags. On. If this was my first exposure to them, I'd loathe their very existence. |
Superdrag – The Staggering Genius Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Anyone else think this might be self-referential? I mean, John Davis was balls-deep in alcoholism before converting in the middle of recording this album... |
At the Drive-In – Rascuache Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I'm really not sure what the song's about, but I'd found a live version of the song years ago that might shed a little light. This was just about when Vaya came out, and Cedric introduces the song thusly: "This is inspired by a man who comes from our hometown. He wasn't the greatest man, he wasn't the nicest man either. What he did was very inspiring." Any clue here? |
BIS – Eurodisco Lyrics | 17 years ago |
A little more thoughtful than I thought this song would be. Basically, by the time some genre gets a cute name and mainstream attention, it's dead. Whether the attention killed it (as well as the fame of whoever gets lumped into that genre, if the chorus is to be believed) or the mainstream's just slow, who knows. A few corrections: the first pre-chorus is "The party's at its end/A style is named, it's dead/There is no latest trend." Also, there's a chorus before the "Eurodisco/You're so disco" bit, as well as one after (that repeats through the fade-out). |
Hot Water Music – Seein' Diamonds Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Well, the badassery of this song's already been well established. The guitar parts alone pretty much reaffirm how gorgeous it sounds. But as for the lyrics, it seems to me like it's about a guy finding out something that just blindsides him (she's dumping him? she cheated?) from his girlfriend/what have you. Especially in the second verse: "I remember early morning in the car on the side of the road you said you had something to say" The setup... "I crawled out with my head spinning I covered my ears too late everything felt dead to me" And the aftermath. Both barrels, right between the eyes. Whatever it was, it HURT. |
KMFDM – Light Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Don't quote me on it, but I think the last line in German means "No one does more for you". |
Richard Ashcroft – Check The Meaning Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Is it just me, or does this song not feel like it goes on for eight minutes while you're listening to it? It doesn't feel like it drags or anything. |
Daft Punk – Human After All Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Apropos of nothing whatsoever, but Ted Leo and the Pharmacists played a free show a few months ago, and while they were setting up, this album (and song, for the most part) was playing through the PA. Once Ted had his guitar all set up, he started playing along. Didn't sing it, natch. And wwallacelamont, yeah, that's way off. Sounds like it, but it's not. |
Voice Of The Beehive – Monsters And Angels Lyrics | 17 years ago |
A little chintzy, lyrically, but it's about conflicts in all of us. Kind of pounding you about the head with it, especially with the chorus. But what I really want to know is what's the painting they reenact in the beginning of the video? It's this ridiculously famous one and I can't think of it. |
The Evens – You Won't Feel a Thing Lyrics | 17 years ago |
EPIC CHORUS! Saw 'em at both of their Connecticut stops on their current tour, and Ian explained it's about the country basically being asleep while very bad things in the US's name. He compared it to a patient going in for surgery, getting anesthesia, and not feeling anything. But then as the anesthesia wears off, the pain comes in. So, now that the country's waking up to these acts, now we're feeling the pain. Seriously, I love the fade-out. It works so well in this context, especially because the whole song's about how you won't feel anything, and then here's this reminder that once you wake up... well, that's not the case any more, now, is it? |
Holly McNarland – Elmo Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Well, she's obviously seeing someone whilst humping someone else. Only question is she's siding with one of them, but can't make up her mind. Gets even more complicated with the version on "Lilith Fair, Vol. 2" where she changes one of the choruses to "Where the fuck have you been?" so maybe she doesn't know who she's taunting and who she's sticking with. |
Emanuel – Buy American Machines Lyrics | 17 years ago |
"God lives inside your TV turn it off and he goes broke and gets crucifixed." Okay, THAT'S a good line, if only for the payoff pun at the end. |
Big Pun – Still Not A Player Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Yes, I actually ran that bit through Babelfish. "Boricua, colored person, boricua, colored person" Uh... yeah. I'm off to go look up money laundering in the dictionary now. |
Ice Cube – It Was A Good Day Lyrics | 17 years ago |
42oz: You're actually thinking about "Walking on Sunshine." (ahem) |
Madonna – Into The Groove Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Psst: I don't think this song's about dancing. (ahem) Pretty sure groove does not equal vag, though. |
Nas – Made You Look Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Third verse, he's saying "fight you punk asses". Only he pronounces it to rhyme with "clasa". |
Nine Inch Nails – Heresy Lyrics | 18 years ago |
(pinches Mr.5elfdestruct's cheeks) They're so cute at that age. :) |
Republica – Ready To Go Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Seriously, how could this song have been anything less than a stadium anthem? It's practically custom-made for, say, Arena Football pre-game festivities. |
Death from Above 1979 – Better Off Dead Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Because La Peste isn't on this site. (shrug) |
2 Skinnee J's – Friends Don't Let Friends Listen to Rap Metal Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Holy self-reference. At least three other songs get checked here. |
TRUSTCompany – Hover Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Hopefully someone can straighten this out. The version I've downloaded is completely different, and probably just the same 20 seconds looped. Lyrics inclue "just sitting around" and "this time nothing feels right to me". I'm guessing it's not this song, but it was named "TrustCompany - Hover"... |
Oasis – Morning Glory Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I really don't get why there's so much argument over whether or not it's about drugs. What else COULD "chained to the mirror and the razor blade" refer to? Really. Nice touch with the Beatles bit in the verse, which also feeds into the drug aspect (although the Gallaghers were probably more interested in licking Beatle boots at the time). "Tomorrow Never Knows" was during the whole fascination with Eastern philosophy (namely, the Tibetan Book of the Dead) and Timothy Leary. What's Leary known for advocating? Acid. |
The Start – Communion Lyrics | 18 years ago |
If this ain't about losing your virginity, it's clearly about something else. |
The Sundays – Here's Where The Story Ends Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Technically, it dates back to 1989. But it's still a great song for the reasons you've said, freud. |
Kent – 747 (english) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Piling onto the whole "it's better in Swedish" bandwagon. Regardless, it's still an amazing song, especially stuck at the end of the album. |
Killradio – Scavenger Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Seriously, what's with the vocals? They sound incredibly uneven, almost like they were pieced together and nobody bothered to try and make them sound like one cohesive track. Maybe if Killradio wanted to play it off as being recorded on stolen tape or something. As for the meaning, it's CLEARLY about Hitler. |
Faith No More – What A Day Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Well, I think the chorus pretty muh sums it up: waking up and thinking "oh crap, what did I just do?" |
Faith No More – Ugly In The Morning Lyrics | 18 years ago |
But that doesn't explain the biggest mystery: what exactly IS he doing at the end of the song? I mean, there's completely falling apart and going batshit insane, and there's the outro. |
Journey – Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Let's face it, the video would be nothing without Steve Perry's hair. There. I said it. That and the keyboard on the warehouse wall. |
Journey – Don't Stop Believin' Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Speaking of the White Sox adopting the song, anyone catch ESPNews's coverage of the parade? I forget who was the anchor in question (I want to say Linda Cohn) but as soon as she came on, she was obsessed with trying to figure out what Steve Perry had to do with the White Sox. Eventually, discussion turned to where Journey hailed from, and one producer informed her Detroit (!). After coming back from commercial, they finally got it straightened out that they were from San Francisco and therefore, had no clue what the connection was. |
Faith No More – Be Aggressive Lyrics | 18 years ago |
But that doesn't explain the cheerleaders. Of course, I'm pretty sure there's really NO explanation for about half of FnM's musical elements... |
