Tool – Parabola Lyrics | 14 years ago |
this has probably been said before in comments, but this song is about "conciousness" in the buddhist context. The body is merely a shell, the conscious self (which is indeed the complete self) is everlasting and is merely held inside it temporarily. "This body holding me reminds me of my own mortality Embrace this moment, remember: we are eternal, all this pain is an illusion." The tenets of tibetan buddhism describe all parts of the human experience as being external... merely an illusion, "all this pain is an illusion" The soul is an energy which can inhabit many forms, and is reincarnated 49 days after death of its host into a new form. The new form is not always human, or even earthly. This song is celebrating the human incarnation of the "self". |
Motorcycle – as the rush comes Lyrics | 14 years ago |
definitely about rolling. and made for people who are rolling balls. Gabriel & Dresden mix FTW. |
Placebo – Running Up That Hill (Kate Bush cover) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
i think this song is about loving someone who is emotionally unavailable. i think the song has 2 voices... the second verse being the other person. verse 1 explains that person a loves person b and that they don't need to fear love verse 2 explains why person b is scared to love because they have been hurt before |
Joan as Police Woman – Real Life Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i wish someone would write a song like this for me. |
Joan as Police Woman – Real Life Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"she was disappointed" i bet! this is a very beautiful song... it reminds me of a picture of someone sleeping, bare, honest and peaceful. my favorite line is "how a man, desired, feels the weight of a letter" so descriptive and contemplative, deep and introspective, yet built around such a common thing in our world. to me thats the sign of a great song and songwriter, the ability to turn the mundane into something of beauty. i think simon and garfunkel were masters of that. this is my current favorite song. |
Pink Floyd – Not Now John Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i think this song is waters mocking gilmours attitude during and after the filming of "the wall" the fights were legendary between these two and this song is "allowing" gilmour to have his "type" of sound on the record, also this is the only track which features gilmour on vocals. that was not by accident.... waters intended it to be musically completely different from every other track. i believe that elements of "the final cuts" are confessions from waters to gilmour and the world in general about why they can't see eye to eye or work together any more. when gilmour sings "not now john we've got to get back to the film show.... hollywood...etc" waters wrote those lyrics with the intent of having gilmour sing his own indictment. waters felt that the bands music was being pushed towards commercialism, and summarily left after recording this album. waters moved on to make more intelligent music, and gilmour pressed on under the pf crown, imho, making music that lacked all the substance that waters brought to it. ultimately this album is partially a coded "goodbye" from waters to pink floyd, and ultimately this track is a large FUCK YOU to David Gilmour, who just wanted to make corporate dick suck music to exploit the lsd crowd some more. |

this song is a beauty. really sums up life and love The vocals are so wonderfully sung and understated. I bet the boys in Coldplay wish they could write something this simple and beautiful. |

Damien Rice – Elephant Lyrics | 17 years ago |
hooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnneyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy |
Andrew Bird – Banking on a Myth Lyrics | 17 years ago |
weather systems.... the album he made and released while working on The Mysterious Production of Eggs. This song seems to mention in passing the demise of "Andrew Birds Bowl of Fire": he says you don't have to walk a plank the game is rigged, go fig your slide show tanked, and your flagship sank |
Andrew Bird – A Nervous Tic Motion of the Head to the Left Lyrics | 17 years ago |
he has such flair for drama in song, and this is a great example. |
Tori Amos – Hey Jupiter Lyrics | 17 years ago |
missme, i think you are perfectly right to me, it's about trying to find reasons why things didn't work out. "are you gay? are you blue?" on dealing with being alone "No one's picking up the phone. Guess it's me and me." "And I thought I wouldn't have to be with you, a magazine." |
Tori Amos – Way Down Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I love the way the choir kicks in.... makes me think she's singing about going to some kind of hell where she's gonna hang around with bad folks has a guilty tone to it i think callisto is right in the fact that its an indictment of 'fame' or it could be refering to 'giving head' to get what you want or both ... or nothing |
Tori Amos – Putting The Damage On Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i think its about loving someone who is really bad for you not being able to put them aside or let go. "glue... stuck to my shoe" |
Tori Amos – That's What I Like, Mick (The Sandwich Song) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
kippers? yeck. i would bet this is just a flirtatious little filler song written to describe what her husband is into. "spurs are winning" refers to Tottenham Hotspur F.C. in England. Glen Hoddle played for the aforementioned team. |
Tori Amos – Angie Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this song makes me think about a girl i went to school with who died of cancer when she was 17. i used to sing this song to her, because her name was angie, it has since taken on a deeper meaning |
Tori Amos – Witness Lyrics | 17 years ago |
thanks! i didn't know that... but it sure fits. the ending of this song is terribly well written. but the bridges are just terrible. thanks for this tori! |
Sia – Breathe Me Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Zero 7 – Futures Lyrics | 17 years ago |
its aboot fleeting fame |
U2 – Love Is Blindness Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I agreed with The last two statements. (nice user name keyser!) The song has has very negative allusions in it. Love is painted as the result of passion devoid of logic. Death and violent imagery are featured throughout the lyrics. To say that this is a 'straight forward' love song does not make sense to me. |
Trespassers William – Love Is Blindness Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This is a U2 cover. I don't know how anyone could not know that, but I'm just throwing it out there. Well done, though not quite as good as the Cassandra Wilson version. I recommend it highly. |
Andrew Bird – Lull Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I really doubt that 'pulling the goalie' is the focus of this song. I do however think that he is eluding to the fact that song-writing, or art creation in general, is an exercise in self indulgence. |
Andrew Bird – First Song Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This beautiful song's lyrics are from a poem written by Galway Kinnell. http://www.poetryarchive.org/poetryarchive/singlePoem.do?poemId=5557 |
M. Ward – To Go Home Lyrics | 17 years ago |
A song about life and love and getting old and death and the other side.... etc. Great cover of a Daniel Johnston song! |
Coal – Stay Lyrics | 17 years ago |
You don't have to lie about where you've been. We both know you've been screamin' So why don't you give your little voice a rest, climb on up inside my bed, and just pretend you need me? You don't have to lie about what you know. We both know that I've been sufferin'. And I don't need to be your only one, and I don't need your comfortin', I just need you with me. (chorus) (Stay, Stay, Stay with me. Stay, stay with me. Stay, and don't you ever run away from me.) Oh,and if she ever let's you down, after she has run out of your money? Well then just crawl on back to me, I'm the one that sets you free, and I'm the one that needs you. And if she ever let's you go, we both know what you'll be needin'. And if you need somewhere to rest, somewhere to lay your head, you'll know where to find me. (chorus) And if you need somewhere to rest, somewhere to lay your head, you know where to find me. Stay with me! I can't live another day, I won't live another day without you baby! Stay with me! Turn down the headlights. Empty the ashtrays. Sweep out of the airway, what's left of our time. Oh, you can use my body to do what you have to, but stay a little longer, stay with me |

M. Ward – Sweethearts On Parade Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i didn't know that... i love louis! |
M. Ward – So Much Water Lyrics | 17 years ago |
pretty much a song about the ex girlfriend... but put so sweetly, without the usual "pretty noose" type lyrics |
M. Ward – Poor Boy, Minor Key Lyrics | 17 years ago |
to me, its a song about awaiting "transfiguration". growing into a different person with time. even the music during the song has a definitive "transfiguration" from 30's ragtime to late 80's tom waits complete with the mark ribot guitar. its so hard to pick favorites in matt wards music... but this one is up there for me |
Lamb – One Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this song means that andy barlow just is an incredible producer |
Fiona Apple – Extraordinary Machine Lyrics | 18 years ago |
this is one of the coolest songs i've ever heard come out of a 'pop' singer! when she sings the bridge it gives me spinal shivers |
