The Fray – Heaven Forbid Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song feels like it could be written to me. I'm twenty-ish and I've never been in a proper relationship. Sometimes I fear I never will be and it IS "breaking me down" because I family is the one thing I really want in life. To realise that it might not happen is ... hard. For that reason I got involved with a guy until I realised that I was doing it out desperation and the want to "feel good" - I wasn't in love. I broke it off, but it has given me a renewed sense of hope that it'll happen - someday. This song means so much to me, telling me to "hold on tight, wait for tomorrow, you'll be alright" and not to seek meaningless relationships. (And coming here, seeing that there are others like me makes me less depressed thinking about the girls at school saying stuff like "Can you imagine being 18 and never having been kissed? Ridiculous", because *I* was 18 when I received my first kiss). Enough rambling now. |
Jump, Little Children – Yearling Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Great song. It has this amazing soothing quality. The melody of it, the way it's sung - it calms me down whether I'm feeling sad or angry, or just restless. I agree on the meaning of the song - it's sounds like he's new to this whole "love" thing. I can totally relate to that - I'm wondering if it will ever happen to me. |
Travis – The Beautiful Occupation Lyrics | 18 years ago |
For your information, Fran is not against war in general. He's against *this* war. This is what he said introducing the song at a gig in Oslo 2003: "I'm not against war, right. I think if someone drops a bomb on your house, well, I'm up to fight, you know, I'm gonna fight. I would do that, if someone dropped a bomb on your mum and dad's house and killed them, you'd be like "okay!" but... I don't see any bombs dropping on any of us, you know, we had the planes fly into the buildings, but that had nothing to do with it. Millions of people marched and said "no way". [someone] was on tv yesterday saying that he thinks they destroyed all their weapons of mass destruction ten years ago. So it's all about money and greed. And the biggest weapon of mass destruction - at the moment anyway - is aids and they're not spending 87 billion dollars - you know, they could wipe it out like that, they could help people, but they're not. They just want to - I don't know what they want to do...! It's crazy." |

Actually Cinjun said on KCRW that the song is about his father "passing on". The lyrics however are such that it could just as well be about a relationship. |
Coldplay – Gold in Them Hills (with Ron Sexsmith) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Great song. One of Ron's best, I'd say. And though Chris Martin is quite decent on this song the version with just Ron is so much better, imo. The song is quite simple, but that's the way Ron writes and frankly it's what makes his lyrics so damn great (no wierd "arty" lyrics that I can think of). Yeah, this was pretty much an advertisement for Ron Sexsmith, lol. The guy deserves it though. ;) |
Travis – Sing Lyrics | 18 years ago |
To me Sing is about letting go, and not caring if you make a fool of yourself. Sort of like As You Are. Just let the guard down; you might get laughed at, but you might just also see something beautiful. I love the video for Sing. At first I was sort of nonplussed. Why a food-fight? Now I see that it's also, in a sense, about letting go of your pretenses and just be. And it's so damn funny. I'm sure they had a good laugh making it. Generally I think Travis' videos are top notch (perhaps not some of the earliest, but...) |
Nikola Sarcevic – Vila Rada Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Like pinkprints, I first thought it was about a girlfriend. The fact that it's a 'true story' about his brother just makes it that much more deep and meaningful. |
Nikola Sarcevic – Nobody Without You Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song has essentially been heard before. What makes better than average is the clever use of words. Can't wait til I get this guys album! |
Travis – Baby One More Time (Britney Spears cover) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I just saw the Britney Spears version on VH1 today. Dear God... It reminded me just how good Travis' version is. |
Travis – The Beautiful Occupation Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Fran wrote this before any mention of wars, but he had this weird feeling that it was coming, and he could do nothing about it. The song is about feeling helpless. I love this song. When I first listened to '12 Memories' this was the song that jumped out at me. It's still one of my favorites. |
