The Cars – Drive Lyrics

I always thought it was about someone who really loved someone who was a loser. Kind of like, you're really not that great, but I'm here for you for some reason that I can't explain. |

David Bowie – Heroes Lyrics

Bowie played this song at Live Aid in 1985. What a concept. We can be heroes....if just for one day. Wow. This song more than any other talks about the power of the individual. At least it did to me. |

Turns out my wife was (is) having an affair with a another dad from my son's sports club. I was wondering why she kept playing this song on her iPod. I later found out it was "their song." He can have her, but for that reason...this song blows. |

Bruce Springsteen – Badlands Lyrics

When I was between the ages of 35 and 38, and in a mini-mid life crisis, I listened to this song every day. Having passed that stage, the song has a lot less meaning for me and even seems a little contrived. Still love the opening riff though. |

Langenfeld, this is one of my top ten songs of all time. I listen to it every day and constantly find new meaning in it. my other big inspirational song is "Badlands" by Springsteen. The other happy song I always refer back to is "Waiting for a Star" by Boy Meets Girl." |

Five for Fighting – 100 Years Lyrics

My son just turned 15 and he's a such a great kid that the meaning behind this song comes so clear to me as I see the potential of his life. Conversely, I am 45 and his mother and I just divorced, so, yep, crisis ahead. When I'm 99, while I thought I would, I am no longer going to be "Counting the ways to where you are." |

Actually this is my favorite Clash song. Its classic Clash. Unbelievable lyrics that are totally contradictory to the tune. |

Billy Joel – Scenes From An Italian Restaurant Lyrics
| 19 years ago

It's not uncommon these days for married people over 40 who shouldn't really be married to each to get divorced. So this song is interesting in that in old takes Brenda(r) and Eddie one summer to realize it. Eddie recognizing that "he could never afford to live that kind of life" is one of the greatest moments of self-reflection in the history of pop lyrics. Bravo, Eddie. Bravo. |

I just rediscovered this song. Used to listen to the Stranger all the time in high school. I always presumed Billy was lecturing himself in this song. |

Bruce Springsteen – Backstreets Lyrics

This is by far my favorite Bruce song, and I like many of them. I had heard that Terry might be a guy, but reading the lyrics above, I doubt it. |
