It’s obvious. This is a song about a guy who wins the male model of the year award three times in a row. Then a younger, more hip model comes along and challenges for the award. At the ceremony, Lenny Kravitz announces the winner as "Hansel," the young up-and-comer. But the older model thinks/assumes that his own name was called, and he goes up to accept the award. And when he realizes what has happened, he’s SOOOO embarrassed. |

Good song. I moved to New Jersey a couple of years ago...it amazes me that people here still love freakin Bon Jovi, but this band, also from the garden state (btw, I seen a lot more chemical treatment plants, landfills and toxic waste disposal sites than gardens, but that's another story) is so relatively obscure. |

The anti-suicide explanation makes sense to me here. Great song, great album, great band with an incredible vocalist...not sure what someone before is talking about Labrie not sounding that great at times. Labrie is a unique talent.

This song is the single greatest piece of evidence that KISS is just a corporation that has more to do with making money than making music. This song is heartless and contrived, but reflects the very generic power ballad formula which was popular at the time.
Now, I actually like some KISS stuff in spite of how shallow it is, but this song was written with the same spirit with which WalMart buys products manufactured in China. |
