Black gives way to blue - To me it means that they are slowly moving away from dark hell that had consumed them, however its only a little bit better; Blue is still a sad and mournful colour, but better than black :-) Love the song. RIP Layne. |

In any case, I don't find these lyrics disrespectful, just honest and sad. As I understand it, they were all as bad as each other with the "addictions" weren't they?? However I think the others tried and managed to clean up, Layne didn't - he was "consciously avoiding changes". |

I get the feeling this song is about living too fast - "you live so much it's like your dying" - putting so much effort and energy into your lifes goals that you burn out and eventually lose everything. Dunno but - I like Farrels comments too. Eitherway - I really like this song. |

I love powderfinger to DEATH. and their new album is still of the same quallity as the rest!! love it! I'm not entirely sure what this song means. To me the first seems as though its as if he's just broken up with someone, and the second hes going back through memories adn moving on, and saying he cant remember why it was so hard to move on before. Either way, kick arse song! |

I so so love this song. I can't say I thought of war. I interpret it as nobody knows what it feels like to be you. no-one can really relate as to how your feeling at any given time. Something so meaningless to one person, can mean a great deal to another. But thats what I love about powderfinger, not many of their songs are so blunt in their meaning. I think this is close to being the best on the album. I think this can be interpreted in various way depending on the person. But heres what i get out of it, probably totally off target but it makes sense to me, hehe. “Judging by the look on the organ-grinder, He'll judge me by the fact that my face don't fit. It's touching that the monkey sits on my shoulder. He's waiting for the day when he gets me. But I don't need no alibi - I'm a puppet on a string,” [He is referring to life in general as being a performance, some people are the controllers (organ-grinder and the monkey) and some the puppets. Someone has control over a situation where he feels he does not fit in or does not like, and although they seem protecting of his best interests he is merely a “puppet on a string” in their hands. He can’t really justify what he is doing in life as it is not what he himself truly wants to do.] "I just need this stage to be seen." [He is sick of being judged for something that isn’t really him.] "We all need a pantomime to remind us what is real" [Being told what is real by someone can be misleading, we need something more solid than words of others to guide us – there is more to life than what we are told to be believe in.] "I'm out of my mind." [He feels like he’s “out of his mind” as nothing seems real to him anymore, life is just a performance to fit in with society.] "But I won't be your concubine - I'm a puppet not a whore." [concubine refers to the state of a couple living together as lovers with no permanent obligation, so this makes me think that he feels like he’s being used by someone or something, I’m a puppet not a whore – A puppet is something that brings happiness however holds a reputable face, a whore is someone looked down upon despite being vital part of life.] "Won't you be a friend of mine to remind me what is real?" [He is in search of a real friend to guide him, someone who is out for his best interests and not their own.] "Hold my heart and see that it bleeds." I have never heard a song explain love so well, it makes me cry every time i hear it because every line is exactly how i feel. You have not just lost your lover, you have lost your best friend. Despite my love for this song I have banned myself from listening to it because it upsets me so much. 'Cause I saw the end before we'd begun, Yes I saw you were blinded and I knew I had won. that line gets me the most, because that was how i felt when i was with my bf. I knew he was blinded by love and knew all along that it wouldn't last - and i was right. |

| for some reason i have always thought this song was about like, like with the first kid he deliberately crashed the car then told everone it was accident, and the girl in the change room had made those bruises herself and thats why she wouldn't show anyone, and with the last one i always thought that his parents were always so strict and unreasonable etc. that he ended up committing suicide and his parents didn't know why cos they thought they were doing the right thing. but like, after reading everyone elses ideas - i like them better. hahaha. i dont like my interpretation any more... the others make so much more sense!! | |

i think it is about breaking up with someone you love so much, and all you want is to have them back even though deep down you know its not going to work - "sleep has left me alone to carry the weight of unraveling where we went wrong" "love has made me a fool, set me on fire and watched as i floundered unable to speak except to cry out and wait for your answer but you come around in your time speaking of fabulous places create an oasis dries up as soon as you're gone you leave me here burning in this desert without you" Those are my favourite lines, because when we broke up all i wanted was to be with him, and he knew that. so he saw me when "he" wanted to, and it made it all better for the couple of hours he was there, then when he left it was 10 times worse. this song to me sums up exactly how i felt when my boyfriend of 3 years broke up with me. i love it. |

To everyone who has critised ICP and ICP fans here, do you realise that not everyone who likes and listens to ICP are freaks or weirdos? Also - ICP are not as stupid or silly as you may think, their lyrics are actually very meaningful and reflect on very real and serious issues in the world, such as racism; corruption; violence etc. This definately is not one of my favourite songs, however keep in mind that this song is one of MANY. Have a look/listen to more of their songs, for example 'how many times', 'halls of illusions', 'nothings left' etc. I admit, when i first heard ICP i asked my brother how the fuck he can listen to such crap! in spite of this, i actually took the time to listen to their lyrics and found humour in them, then i actually realised that they were more than humourous and actually said alot about society - its not just useless drabble! |
