This song has so much more soul when it's the Dobie Gray version somehow... but i love the thought of music being the river that carries one away. i don't think it's expressly trichotillomania crayola_... and isn't that about pulling out one's hair? regardless, this song does bring me an odd sense of comfort. i used to cut, for the sheer relief it would bring rather than out of any need for 'attention', and knowing that someone else knows what it feels like to use the pain as a control rather than an 'omg i'm so emo i cut myself and cry' thing is nice. i still miss cutting sometimes, but try telling anyone that. if you look in the CD booklet, this song's lyrics are written like the notes my friends and i used to write in school. certain lyrics (like "She's all alone again Wiping the tears from her eyes") are written in the handwriting that you see throughout most of the rest of the booklet, Jesus/Jimmy's handwriting. The others("He steals the image in her kiss From her hearts apocalypse From the one called whatsername") are written in the handwriting used in Letterbomb, which is supposed to be Whatsername's. just kinda cool, i think |

i kind of wonder if this song comes from someone who is truly a split personality. "Heads or tails and fairytales in my mind" says something about the teetering on the edge descibed in Blvd. of Broken Dreams. "The rage and love, the story of my life The Jesus of suburbia is a lie" is a reference that pops up later in Letterbomb, which says "You're not the Jesus of Suburbia/The St. Jimmy is a figment of/Your father's rage and your mother's love", which makes me think that St. Jimmy and the JoS are the same person, not two different ones. He's schizophrenic and has created Jimmy to channel his rage into. But then, why does Jimmy commit suicide later? Is it that he's assimilated back into the JoS (read Sybil to see what i mean)? Or is it something else? |

He also sang Diggin', No Reply, Stray, one version of Rain, Words That We Couldn't Say, Could You Bite The Hand? and Nowhere and Everywhere, which is one of my favorite songs. he's awesome. |
