Steve Miller Band – Wide River Lyrics 13 years ago
I'm pretty sure this song is about 69ing.

"Come on baby, let's circle each other / What we can do, do for each other / I'll do for you, and you'll do for me."

Everything else is just kind of vague love imagery. What could it be that's running like a river besides water..?

Big D and the Kids Table – can't be caught Lyrics 14 years ago
At the beginning, they shout "Sean P. Rogan!" He's their guitarist. After they shout, the guitar comes in, and the song rocks on from there.

The Planet Smashers – Keep On Coming Lyrics 14 years ago
My favorite line in the song is "Now I know why the good things don't come easily."

It really shows a lot of growth and maturity from the old Planet Smashers, directly reflecting the line in Whinning where he says "The best things in life / Should come more easily."

This song is about Stephen Colbert.

He thanked her for writing it about him on his show once... and he wouldn't lie about that.

Big D and the Kids Table – If We Want To Lyrics 15 years ago
The best lines are "I will not be a slave to time, time must learn to roll with me" and "I just met a crazy girl who's sane."

Song's basically about not growing up too soon and not forgetting to have fun, as are so many of their songs. He can't see himself working 8 hour days and going to bed to do it all over again, spending nights just watching TV. Forget about time and money and just laugh and laugh. That's this song. That's pretty much Big D in general.

Best band ever.

Big D and the Kids Table – If We Want To Lyrics 15 years ago
Some of the lyrics posted were close. A lot of them were way off, especially the best parts:

"I could not ever see myself packing up and taking off
Just to fall asleep and work again
I will not count my sleep hours
Let ‘em all just have me all groggy and incoherent
I just met a crazy girl who's sane so I'm not about to leave just yet
Only an idiot would say 'Right on I'll see ya'
Just to go home and think what coulda been
We've both finished ripping off all the labels on the pantry cans
We've all succeeded hurling the T.V.
Still plugged in down the front stairs
So why not?

Chorus: Cuz we can stay if we want to

She could not ever think of leaving
Everyone she knows is never all in the same place
The eight hours she spends hardly working
With this she would gladly replace
All she wants is what we want free time laughing with no designated end
She told me 'I will not be a slave to time
Time must learn to roll with me'
So why not

Chorus:
Cuz we don’t care like they do
It cannot stop too many of us laughing each other on
We cannot stop we need more trouble before the night is gone

So why not
Chorus
So why not
Chorus
Cuz we don't care like they do
Cuz I'm gonna stay as long as you do

Meat Puppets – Comin' Down Lyrics 15 years ago
I've always thought this song was about how much working 9 - 5 in an office sucked. The only thing I really have to back that up is the verse:

Looking through a pile of garbage
For some worthless piece of paper
That's been hidden there for me
To give meaning to my day

The rest of it doesn't really support what I say the song is about.

The next logical thing I guess would be that it is about drugs. Coming down from a high. Ground dissolving beneath the feet. Seeing the lofty glory and the high and mighty. Drugs makes the most sense.

The Matches – Dog-Eared Page Lyrics 16 years ago
One part of the song I don't get is the lines:

"You said the distance
Would make a difference
But it didn't."

To me this kind of goes against the rest of the song, which seems to suggest that the distance is making a difference. Anyone agree? Disagree?

The Shins – Young Pilgrims Lyrics 16 years ago
"Fate isn't what we're up against
There's no design
No flaws to find"

Those lines pretty much sum up the whole song to me. Basically there is no God. No intelligent design to the universe, no fate, nothing like that. Believing that there is no god, no flaws to find, is a modern way of thinking. Sometimes this modern thought can get the best of you, it can be depressing, but that's it. If you're able to believe those lofty tales (so tried and true), go for it because its easier.

Oh, I heard the quote at the beginning I think... the "moderate rock" before the instruments even come in. Cool stuff.

Streetlight Manifesto – We Are The Few Lyrics 16 years ago
I like how "all I know now is that I've gotta do something right" changes to "all I know now is that I've gotta do something.... right?" at the end of the song. Like, instead of saying he has to do the right thing, he's just looking for confirmation that he just has to do something. Or maybe I misinterpretted that part. But that's my take and if it's correct I like what he did there.

Streetlight Manifesto – If And When We Rise Again Lyrics 16 years ago
I think this song is absolutely great. Gotta love the instruments in the breakdown. I actually think the lyrics are really great, too. Probably the least repetitive in terms of lyrics on the album, I think, too. No line is spoken more than once, aside from "If and when we rise to our feet again / We'll be on our own," which of course only emphasizes this idea.

And I'm not quite up on my Kurt Cobain quotes anymore. Which comes from him?

Streetlight Manifesto – Everything Went Numb Lyrics 16 years ago
I agree that this song must be about a bank robbery, or a robbery of some sort. Just because a song doesn't expressively say it specifically doesn't mean anything. Any good song doesn't directly spell out what it means. As a generally statement, anyways... "Everything goes numb" I always interepreted as being like a cold sweat from the alarms and the adreneline, but I suppose it representing death or numbness to the world or whatever makes sense, too.

This is the first Streetlight song I had ever heard. I hated it. "It's such a rip-off of Catch Twenty-Two! The singer sounds just like that guy from Catch Twenty-Two and the style and the horns are just like Catch Twenty-Two, too. Even the words sound like something they would write, like 9mm and a 3 Peice Suit!" Yeah. So then I was clued in as to who was in the band. That was a couple years ago. It wasn't long before they were my favorite band...

Streetlight Manifesto – Failing, Flailing Lyrics 16 years ago
It seems like every time I read what a site has for lyrics on this song, they miss my favorit line in the entire song! It makes me so angry!

After one round of "Nothing / You won't say nothing / You don't say nothing / And that's just fine" a second round starts and overlaps this first round. The words to it are "Take me back to that day when I went blind / I would like to see your face one last time." I love that line. It's repeated twice per round for two rounds starting after the "Nothing" round goes once.

The first time I heard this song I got really angry, because he stole a line I had written years ago. I didn't like it when I wrote it, but somehow coming from Tomas it sounds better.

Definately not nearly the best song on the album, but its definately a good one. The first verse seems a little weak to me, but the rest is incredibly solid, in my opinion.

Streetlight Manifesto – A Moment of Violence Lyrics 16 years ago
I love the fact that AMOS and AMOV are two different songs, instead of just one song, even though essentially they are the same song, only different. It reminds me of much of what Kalnoky does, remaking his own songs in different styles and with alternate lyrics (two versions of Here's to Life and Dear Sergio). Just Fantastic.

I read the lyrics to this before I ever heard it and I laughed my ass off. Then I saw the movie and heard the song and laughed some more. Big D and the Kids Table – My Girlfriend's On Drugs Lyrics 16 years ago
I LOVE the girl's background singing in this song. So hillarious.

When the song goes _______; she says "_______"

...at my Dad I'm a winner; "He's a winner"
...cat is stealing our money; "I know it's him!"
...she'll burst out laughing; "Hahahahahaha..."
...she says 'Thank you Superman'; "Thaaaank you, Superman..."
...she screamed; "I'm a daisy!"

Hillarious! Totally makes the song, for me. I saw Big D at the Halloween Show 2004 in Boston and Dave introduced the song by saying something like, "I used to have this girlfriend, and she was telling me about the different drugs she was into. So you know, she was going through the list, and I was like, Yeah, I do that. Well, I've done that, but I don't... I know people who have do that. I definately don't do that..." So possibly maybe about a real girlfriend he had at some point. In any event, great song!

Someone named Hillary was the girl who provided the female vocals, according to the liner notes or whatever in the CD in case anyone was wondering. I'm pretty sure she's in some local Boston band, although I'm not positive...

Such a great song when you're pissed off and need to blow off steam. Actually, I really enjoy it when I'm in a great mood, too.

As other people pointed out the aparent hypocracy of this song compared to other songs of theirs, I'd say first it's probably not that same kind of hate and second that it could easily just be irony / sarcasm. I like it either way...

This was the first Suicide Machines song I ever heard. I think it was on the Tony Hawk video game way back when that came out. Then like four years later I got into ska and started downloading some of their stuff, and now I've bought a lot. So yeah, this one started it for me. Just really catchy.

Such a great song. Love the obnoxious trombone throughout. Just listening its hard to hear a lot of the words, but the lyrics are great, too, about getting older and not question things. Such a kickass feel-good song.
