Massive Attack – Teardrop Lyrics | 11 years ago |
For some reason, I always imagined an oboe playing along with Elizabeth Frasers singing, doing all the same pitch bending and subtle inflections that she does. Someone should make an oboe cover of this song, that would be amazing! |
Neutral Milk Hotel – In the Aeroplane Over the Sea Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I don't think it's bee mentioned yet, but Anne Frank and her family was in hiding in Amsterdam in the Netherlands. She was from Germany originally, but moved to Holland when she was four to escape the Nazis. |
Jumper – Tapetklister Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Wow! Someone actually commented on this song! Then I didn't translate in vain. Good to know since I probably had better thing to do a year ago than sitting around translating dusty old mid 90s pop. Still, it'll be my contribution to the Internet. |

Jumper – Tapetklister Lyrics | 19 years ago |
OK, så det var kanske lite väl ambitiöst att översätta jumpertexter till engelska, men jag hittade ett par på internet som var översatta till väldigt dålig engelska. Jag vara bara tvungen att rätta till dem. |
Nick Drake – Road Lyrics | 19 years ago |
How do you know which road will see you through? Does anyone know? |
Nick Drake – Place To Be Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This song is about lost innocence and depression to me, but not necessarily because of love for a woman. It might be that he is weak in his need for depression itself. When you feel really bad it can be quite a relief to shut down emotionally instead of facing your woes, it might even turn into a habit to plunge into depression when things are tough. He realizes that he needs to do something, to clean up the place, but his depression has made him feel weak and without hope. All he wants is for depression to let go of him and give him a place where he can be happy. Or maybe that's me... |
Nick Drake – Harvest Breed Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I'm glad this isn't the last track on Pink Moon, that would have been too eerie. The last one, From the Morning, is a bit more cheerful. |
Nick Drake – River Man Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This song reminds me of the film Easy Rider. Especially the last shot with the river extending to the horizon and Ballad of Easy Rider being played. The part about the ban on feeling free seems to be related to the theme of the movie too. What do you think? |
Nick Drake – Things Behind the Sun Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I never really got my head around what Nick was trying to say with this song, but that sounds very plausible. It reminds me of a song by Elliott Smith on the same theme, Between the Bars. It's a little more downbeat than this but a great song nonetheless. |
Rage Against the Machine – Killing In The Name Lyrics | 19 years ago |
What's everyone so angry about? We live in the best of all possible worlds, don't we? |
Stockholms Anarkafeministkör – Och Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Snacka om utopistiska visioner! "Sista striden" och "begrava hatet för alltid". Som om socialismen skulle vara slutstationen på människans utveckling. |
Stockholms Anarkafeministkör – On the Day the Nazi Died Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Nazister är också människor! Förvirrade sådana visserligen, men ändå. Men för all del, livet blir kanske lättare att leva för vissa om de har någon att hata. Stan Getz – The Girl from Ipanema Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Here's a translation of the portugese part: Look at this thing, most lovely most graceful It's her, the girl that comes, that passes with a sweet swinging walking to the sea Girl of the golden body from the sun of Ipanema Your swaying is more than a poem It's a thing more beautiful than I have ever seen pass by Ah, why am I so alone Ah, why is everything so sad The beauty that exists The beauty that is not mine alone that also passes by on its own Ah, if she only knew that when she passes the world smiles fills itself with grace and remains more beautiful because of love |
Nick Drake – Day Is Done Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I just found an alternate version of this song. It has most of the original verses but the bird has flown verse is replaced by this: When the night is cold weren't you ever told it's the time when fear is bought and sold when the night is cold After the party verse there are two additional verses: When they've sung this song maybe you won't feel quite so strong you're hopes won't last quite so long when they've sung this song When they've sung this song won't be so sure what's right what's wrong not so sure where you belong when they've sung this song This version is on an album called Second Grace. I don't know if you can buy it anywhere, but it's available to download right here: http://66.126.61.121/i_never_knew/Second%20Grace/Second_grace.html |

Nick Drake – Don't Think Twice, It's Alright Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I think it's on "Tanworth in Arden" and "Time has told me". Might be a little tricky to get a hold of. |
Nick Drake – Strange Meeting Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I totally agree, this song is incredibly poetic. There's a lot of melancholy but it never gets depressing. I think it's interesting how he describes his memories. He remembers the look she gave him, the night breeze in his face och tracing the foam in the water, but he doesn't remember what she said. That seems to be true of a lot of memories, you remember feelings, sounds, smells och looks, but it's often hard to recall what you were talking about. |
Nick Drake – Don't Think Twice, It's Alright Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This is a Dylan song originally. I think I prefer his version a bit more, his self-assured, almost snide voice suits the lyrics better. But Drake is a better guitar player. His plucking here is just amazing. |
Nick Drake – Day Is Done Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This song is definately not a pick up song for me. It's more like a gentle slap in the face. It's about life stripped of any romantic notions, and how inconsequential most of our every day dealings are. Very sad but ultimately important to be aware of, I think. |
Nick Drake – Saturday Sun Lyrics | 19 years ago |
To me, Saturday Sun is about the good and bad times of life, and how the good times can sometimes pass unnoticed and unappreciated until the bad times are upon you. |
Sublime – Smoke Two Joints Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Actually, the beginning is taken from a Russ Meyer film, "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls" from 1970. I just finished watching it. When I heard those lines I couldn't believe my ears, I had to pause and laugh my arse off. It really caught me of guard. It's a great movie too, lots of sex, drugs, violence and campy 60's dialogue. Co-written by none other than Roger Ebert. A must see for any Sublime fan. |
Serge Gainsbourg – Je T'Aime... Moi Non Plus Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Now for the interesting little facts. This song was released in 1968. It was originally intended that Brigitte Bardot do the female part, but when she backed out Jane Birkin, Serge's future lover and mother of his daughter Charlotte, stepped in. You might remember Jane Birkin as the blond girl who got naked in Antonioni's "Blow-Up". The song received strong criticism for its language and the suggestive panting and moaning, particularly from the Vatican which condemned it in its official newspaper. The song was banned from radio and television in many countries including Italy, UK, Spain and the otherwise so liberal Sweden. This didn't stop it from reaching no. 1 in the charts in the UK and other European countries, pretty spectacular for a song in French. In the US the song made no. 69(!) in the charts. |
Serge Gainsbourg – Je T'Aime... Moi Non Plus Lyrics | 19 years ago |
There are lots of interesting little facts concernings this song. As for its meaning, this is what Serge himself once said: "I love women as an object, the beautiful women, the mannequins, the models. This is the inner painter in me. I never tell them I love them. Je t'aime... moi non plus (I love you... me neither) expresses erotism overcoming sentimentalism… So many songs about romantic and sentimental love, encounters, discoveries, jealousy, illusions, desillusions, betrayals, remorses, hatred, etc... Then why not devote a song to a sort of love much more current these days: physical love? "Je t'aime" isn't an obscene song, it's very reasonable to me, and fills this gap. Its explanation is that girls say "I love you" during sex, and the man with their ridiculous virility doesn't believe them. They think the girls only say it as a result of enjoyment, of pleasure. I guess I believe the girls, or maybe that's a result of my fear. But that's also an aesthetic step, a search of absoluteness" Everything's fair in love and the search for absoluteness. |
Serge Gainsbourg – Je T'Aime... Moi Non Plus Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Maybe a translation would be in order, for all you francophobes out there. These are the lyrics from Nick Cave's english version of the song. I love you, I love you, Oh yes I love you Nor do I Oh my love Like the wave, irresolute I go, I go and I come, Inside you my love I go and I come, Inside you my love And then I hold on I love you, I love you, Oh Yes I love you Nor do I You are the wave, And I the naked island You go, you go and you come, inside me me love you go and you come inside me my love and then we are one I love you, I love you, Oh yes I love you Nor do I Oh my love Like the wave, irresolute I go, i go and I come, Inside you my love I go and I come, Inside you my love And then I hold on I love, I love you my love, Inside me my love I love you my love, Deep inside me my love And then we are one I love you, I love you, Oh yes I love Nor do I Oh my love Physical love is a dead end I go, I go and I come, Inside you my love I go and I come And I hold on No. Now...come |
Lifehouse – You Belong To Me Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Actually, it was Pee Wee King who wrote this song originally, the same guy who wrote "Tennessee Waltz". Credit where credit is due, right? Although Dylan probably did his fair share in popularizing it. |
Totalt Jävla Mörker – Shocking nymoralism Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Hallelujah! If you, like me, feel like this but is afraid to speak up because of what your friends or family would say, then educate yourself on the subject! Totalt Jävla Mörker – Människans ringa värde Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Although I do agree that the Holocaust is one of the commercially most over exploited events of history, I can't say that a political explanation is prefereble to a more "humanized" one. History shows that merciless killing has no political affiliations, nor is it bound to any specific region. In short, anyone, anywhere is a potential murderer. And to reduce nazism to a tool in the class struggle, like TJM does in their comment, is to paint the picture with too few colours since that explanation doesn't offer a reason for the killing of millions of jews who, at least most of them, where not part af the working class. |
Angra – Visions Prelude Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Although Angra really isn't my cup of tea, I have to admit that this rendition of Chopins prelude no 20 isn't a complete disaster, as you might have expected. It succeeds pretty well in evoking a post-apocalyptic feeling. The only complaint I have is with the middle part which is not from chopins piece. Most fans of classical music would probably stick their noses in the air and proclaim that this was a horrible sacrilege. But personally, everytime I hear someone play this on the piano I keep wanting to add guitar and bass. |
Jumper – Tapetklister Lyrics | 19 years ago |
sorry, the "dare" on the last line shouldn't be there |
Jumper – När hela världen står utanför Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Oh, and the "right" in the chorus is optional. It might even sound better if you take it out. |
Jumper – När hela världen står utanför Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Don’t speak Swedish? Then here is a translation of this great Jumper song. (I’ve taken some liberties in my translation because I wanted to keep the right flow of words, I hope I haven’t changed the meaning. Btw, the “when the” of the chorus should be sung right before the first beat of the chorus. Just like “när” in the Swedish version.) Here goes: Okay, I may not be like what you’re supposed to be And I may not be the one that you most of all would want But I think that I might be what you do prefer at times And I will admit that I have thought of it somedays When the whole world is standing right outside our door Who will I act like then? Will you understand? When the whole world is standing right outside our door Who’ll I be for you then? Will you understand? I think that I may someday travel to where you you are, to where your land is, and if you want we can stay indoors all day long, just you and me we can pretend that I'm your husband And things that we'd do then When the whole world is standing right outside our door Who will I act like then? Will you understand? When the whole world is standing right outside our door Who’ll I be for you then? Will you understand What I’ll tell you then? Who should I play? Who should I pretend that I am? What should I say? And what will you think of who I am? Who should I play? Who should I pretend that I am? What should I say? And what will you think of who I am? When the whole world is standing right outside our door Who will I act like then? Will you understand? When the whole world is standing right outside our door Who’ll I be for you then? Will you understand What I’ll tell you then? |
Jumper – Tapetklister Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Here are the lyrics in English for all you non-swedish Jumper fans out there: If you wanna be my friend, I wanna be your I do think our paths can be made to fit It's not very much I'm asking for You can be yourself, I promise, I swear We could live together, or live apart We could meet all the time or just here and there And you can call me anytime that you want D'you want me to come over, just tell me when Wallpaper paste under my shoes You're so much more beautiful than you think I do not dare I do not dare I know where you are, I can call you up But I don't feel sure enough of myself You may have someone else, how should I know But I'll get my shot, won't I, some day Wallpaper paste under my shoes You're so much more beautiful than you think I do not dare I do not dare If you wanna be my friend, I wanna be your I do think our paths can be made to fit It's not very much I'm asking for You can be yourself, I promise, I swear Wallpaper paste under my shoes You're so much more beautiful than you think I do not dare I do not dare Wallpaper paste under my shoes You're so much more beautiful than you think I do not dare I do not dare |
Totalt Jävla Mörker – Shocking nymoralism Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This is what the band say about this song on their webpage: The debate about pornography is totally infected by lies and prejudice. The level of it sometimes reminds of the debate that went on in the eighties about heavy metal causing teen suicides. So many times we have seen ”experts” and politicians, from left to right, in a raging moral panic calling out for censorship against pornography in the name of ”Women’s rights”. (The women working in the porn industry are not asked to say their opinion about it, strangely enough…) Christian moralists and sexually correct politicians are not interested in women’s liberation or sexual freedom at all. They would never give money to pay for free condoms at schools, or a radical sexual education based on pleasure - not reproduction. Anything that is different from a heterosexual-christian-marriage-missionary-position-in-the-dark is sick and perverted in their eyes. The sad thing is that many people of the left-wing are buying into this bullshit. In the end we are biting ourselves in the tail, because if we let politicians take control over our sexuality. |
Totalt Jävla Mörker – Ja! Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This is what the band say about this song on their webpage: The European Union is everything that Hitler wanted his Third Reich to be. The only thing that is different is that he wanted a nazi dictatorship, and now we have got a capitalist one. According to EU politics anything that interferes with business and ways to make profit is a crime against basic human rights, while 40 million unemployed people is considered a necessity. They say it is about internationalism, but how come it is getting harder and harder for people from outside to travel into the EU? They are building a wall against the third world, so that EU can become a super state competing with USA and Asia on the international market. Just look at the Schengen agreement and the Euro dollar project. And if you don’t like it… Look at what happened in Gothenburg or Genova. Their police force will shoot you down. We still remember the people trying to convince us to vote ”Yes” to a Swedish membership of the European Union - we didn’t trust them back them, and we don’t trust them now. |
Totalt Jävla Mörker – Nej till livet Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This is what the band say about this song on their webpage: Women’s right to abortion is one of the most fundamental and important feminist issues out there, but even in Sweden there are groups working to decrease the right to abortion. Ironically their slogan is ”Yes to Life” when it's a fact that more women die during giving birth, than during having an abortion. These people are too blind and stupid to see the consequences of their politics around the world. In many countries abortion is still illegal, and the social consequences of that are horrible. ”Cloth-hanger abortions”, homeless kids, and women dying giving birth are not unusual. In some eastern European countries, abortion became illegal after the fall of the Soviet Union, along with the return of so called religious values. Quickly the science of gynecology moved 200 years back in time. Yes to Life? What kind of life is a life when you have no right to control your own body? |
Totalt Jävla Mörker – Möjligheternas stad Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This is what the band say about this song on their webpage: This song is about growing up and feeling out of place in a small town. In small cities some people get too scared of change, and they make sure that nothing disturbs the silence and everyday routine - just so that they can control their fear of things from the outside. The song is also about the mentality that you sometimes meet in big cities, where people are so busy getting themselves seen in the crowd that they don’t give a shit about other people. Individualism to its very extent, and people show it when they vote as well. If the physical violence won’t get you, the structural will. |
Totalt Jävla Mörker – Sista utposten Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This is what the band say about this song on their webpage: People in possession of economical and political power has shown us time after time that they don’t give a shit about working people, students, unemployed, homeless, single mothers and so on. All they care about is prestige and profit. It is time to unite and smash capitalism, right now! This song is basically about our band and our attitude towards the neo liberal bullshit, but it could be about anyone out there resisting and fighting back. |
Totalt Jävla Mörker – PK - Poliskonstapel Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This is what the band say about this song on their webpage: There are some people know what is best for everybody else. There are some people that have all the answers. There are some people who see no problem in applying their lifestyle on to five billion people. Those people usually believe that a cool hairstyle is something political. They are making the same mistake as the Christians - sucking up to moralism and ”holier than thou” bullshit. And taking yourself too seriously is just very boring and unattractive. We are not taking part of your revolution, because it won't happen. We got to make room for everybody! This song goes out to all revolutionaries out there who like to wear make up, ride funky cars, listen to heavy metal music and being addressed as a ”slut” during sex. |
Totalt Jävla Mörker – Eko Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This is what the band say about this song on their webpage: This song is about those days when you just want to blow your brains out, about people who have lost all their strength and all their motivation in life. It’s about how it feels to have your anxiety wrapped around your brain, day in and day out, and to be screaming your throat bleeding for help when no one seems to listen. This system appears to be designed to make us feels like products, like whores, like slaves and robots for other peoples to use... |
Totalt Jävla Mörker – Brev från TJM del I Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This is what the band say about this song on their webpage: To whom it may concern… Rich Bastard! We are after you - you capitalist scum! We have seen the consequences of your politics and we suffer from them everyday. We are sick and tired of working for the man and getting ourselves killed for their profits. This is a song about the victims of the production/consumption capitalism, and how we have one thing in common and one common goal - to overthrow this stinking system and to liberate ourselves! We are going to beat you in numbers! We are ready to storm the winter palace right now and throw the bastards out in the cold. |
Totalt Jävla Mörker – Krossa flaskan i mitt ansikte Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This is what the band say about this song on their webpage: The working class still exists, whatever the medial lackeys of neo-liberalism says. Being working class is nothing beautiful, funny or cool. It is hard to understand how so many people in the left still have a romantic idea about the working man. That is probably people who never experienced that kind of life. This is a song about being working class, about those moments when everything around you just crushes the little piece of pride that you try to cling on to. About the way you were treated in school, the way you are treated by your boss, the discrimination and the degradation you get from social institutions… Knowing that you were born for one reason - the reproduction of profit. You will end up with scars in one way or another. |
Totalt Jävla Mörker – Kapitalet knullar oss Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This is what the band say about this song on their webpage: The capitalistic lifestyle fucks us all, everything is about material wealth, you are what you own. Things like wide screen television sets, city jeeps, sport cars, fast computers, DVD players, expensive mobile phones and full time salary slavery increases your worth as a human. |
Totalt Jävla Mörker – Fildelningsprocessen Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This is what the band say about this song on their webpage: In Sweden a majority of the kids listen to mainstream top-ten highscore music, and idiots like Fred Durst and Britney Spears have become big idols for the easy cheated youth. Small labels and DIY punx haven’t got a chance fighting multinational record labels such as Sony and EMI. A few years ago we were blessed by a file sharing program called Napster, with which punx worldwide could share their music. It didn’t make any difference if you were rich or poor, had a record contract or not - file sharing was for everybody. Then the music industry got crazy. Poor millionaires such as James Hetfield, Madonna and Eminem screamed for vengeance, and did everything they could to stop the music lovers from listening to their music. At first they seemed to succeed, and Napster was shut down. But after this first setback, peer to peer file sharing increased rapidly and now they can’t stop us! Like Chuck D said: ”To stop file sharing is like trying to control rain” |
