I think that it also talks about others - depression, smoking and alcohol On the first paragraph..eyes are like the window to the soul.. streaming might have described the part where the eyes are streaming with tears.. so he meant that he couldn't stand himself crying. Maybe it's depression I think that when he taks about 'greying' the heart, maybe he's talking about smoking and how the lungs would fill up with tar and other shit from the chemicals and how disgusting and harmful it is to the body. Love this song and especially the lyrics. Personally, I think that this is like a little boy's journey after a really big devastation - like a fire, an earthquake, a tsunami, a terrorist attacks. I think that this is something like a terrorist attack. He is going through the aftermath and the damage..and starts questioning about why humans can be evil and horrible: And everyone is different so everyone is sly And everything's still horrible since everyone still dies As well, why people can't get along (they're different) and also how he is reminded that everyone has to die one day from this attack. And then he asks Is this all the world has to offer? That pretty much sums it all up. |

I can relate so much to these lyrics.. I think everyone goes through a phase where they're unsure of what they want to do in the future in a bad situation that they're put themselves in. When the lyrics refer to a 'you' i'm thinking it has if it's what his mind is telling him. The whole song talks about someone who is messed up, who is in pieces after doing something wrong.. and this person knows that he has done something wrong, deliberately. He probably feels useless and everything, but knows that he has something to contribute to the world...he just needs to get out of his bad situation. It's a good song, really uplifting. |

The first two paragraphs of the lyrics reminds me of 'lord of the flies' in the last part where the schoolboys started killing each other due to differences and distrust. maybe it's a social comment of the kind of society that we live in today - not just in literally killing each other, but also how competetive we all are, especially in the colonised part thanks to the phrase "dog eat dog". maybe these are the workers or the underdogs of society. And then, the song goes on to a related issue from: We sluts, we have, fattened and ripened in these LA castles. Wihy did they use the word slut and castle? To me, slut connotates giving in to the whole give-it-to-me kind of lifestlye, immoral, free etc. As for castle, I think it supports the idea of the underdogs or the 'peasants' working in the 'dog eat dog' world for those who live in 'castles' - people in the upper class, people with status and power and who don't have to face the whole 'cannibalistic' (not literally) world out there. That's the first part of the song that I get. I'm not sure about the second part, but at first I thought that they were talking about internet dating? I think overall, maybe FBtMoF is reinforcing their social comments on the kind of society that we live in - the idea of weddings, monogamy, love and divorce like: Secretaries now make great lovers. And lastly I think the whole repitition thing with the words: Tou can’t buy love. You can’t sell feelings. Sounds like a march protest and that image is reinforced when you have other guys shouting the last two lines of that paragraph xox |

i agree with emoabz - that line (this is a 44 caliber love letter straight from my heart) gives it this whole dimension, it makes it multi-sided since the guy 'shot' the letter from his heart to someone that he loves. like a double edged sword. this is the first alexisonfire song ive heard. The most obvious breakup line in this song would have to be: "Smile for the camera sweet heart, I really want to immortalize this moment" but just remember the first step in forgetting is destroying all the evidence. After a breakup, there's this sense of sadness and there's the sense of purpose of wanting to destroy the 'evidence' - giving back ex's thing, ripping photographs, donating stuff toys to charity, lol. this doesn't have to be a breakup thing - you could do that same thing during mourning after your loved one just died. you can also take the lyrics symbolically and take the destroying of the evidence thing as a metaphor of destoying a part of yourself. if you get rid of the word love into a "This is a .44 calibre letter straight from my heart" than people won't have to be limited to interpreting this as a love song.. |

i wanted to be that breath of fresh air, when everything smelled so insincere, but its taste still lingers in my mouth, deceit has ways of sticking around. I think this goes for any situations where you're new and you just want to start as a clean slate..but when time passes, you realise that you haven't change, that you're not a blank piece of paper. You still have your annoying habits, your fears and all that. It doesn't matter if the situation is starting a new relationship, going to a new school or going overseas - everyone wants to let go of their own demons and insecurities, especially in a situation that -needs- them to do just that. the part that i can relate to is: time starts moving, faster than i can, im getting sick of this scene, i need to break the routine I can relate to it, as in the scene in my area. there was this time when i needed to take a break away from the scene (even some of my friends told me to do just that) and do something new. it's weird how that's the exact words that describes what's happening. oh and the heartache part of the song: note to self: i miss you terribly, this is what we call a tragedy, come back to me I don't think we need to interpret that lol |

i really like from first to last, this is the first time i've read the lyrics and it kind of made me laugh and wonder as to whether or not it's a joke, or a sarcastic view at a certain issue? for one, the song title is 'Failure by Designer Jeans'. I'm wondering if FFTL needed to set up a mood through choosing something like that for their title? I think the only serious, honest part of the song is: I’m a mess of insecurities Did you start with the narcissistic twist So you think that I’m amazing Please tell me I’m a turn off I have every reason not to leave home today It stands out because it contradicts the rest of the song, about how the guy is a player, how he wants to be irresistable etc. The line that I find the most interesting is: Mirror, mirror, how amazing is my figure Don't you think it reminds you of Snow White and the wicked stepmother who would go 'mirror mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all'? I think you could take this song in two ways: One way is that you can take most of the song as this alternate viewpoint that contrasts with the first five lines of the lyrics.. people do this so that people would pay more attention to those lyrics?" Another way is that the song could be talking about two guys - one is terribly insecure, the other is terribly vain... but i think that this isn't the actual concept, since FFTL could have written more on the insecure guy. xox |

oh beautiful your lips taste of red copper always excited me god i love that line, it suddenly moves away from the typical angst, bittersweetness of the first two lines..it turns dark, harsh and interesting. good fucken work. as someone said, blood tastes like copper too, the fact that lips taste of red would mean that they are red (from blood or from lipstick?) and in society, we associate red lips with attractiveness. the whole 'pieces of you in me' kind of gives it this whole cannibalistic thing along with the reference to liking the taste of copper (blood). i like that. |

about 2 minutes left of that song, it actually reminds me of a perfect circle, that unique sound (ha i listen to apc too). in the firs thalf of the song, i love the comparison between the screams and the melodic voices of the 'pretty skin' part. back to the lyrics..thanks to this line: How many times do I have to turn the switch It kinda reminds me of a patronising parent.. or a really concerned friend to someone who seemed rather self-destructive of themselves and these lines pretty much support my idea: You told me they drove you to it... No one around so you slash pretty skin... How many times have you woken up in a strangers arms... to warn you about jumping in the back of the cars... He seems to be rather angry about this person who keeps on being self-destructive to themselves... im wondering why though, is the person stupid, looking for attention or genuinely destructive? The screams seemed patronising, and the melodic voices seemed concerned. i like that duality! |

the song, without the screaming, reminds me of The Hives and that band is currently huge right now, well in the music scene here. The Hives also have a great stage presence, and I heard that Showbread has a certain presence on the stage. Back to the lyrics: Your eulogy is like poetry, But your mouth is like a magazine That's pretty straight forward - the guy prefers this person dead, may even find it blissful. Maybe the last line supports this line - "Now find the fault because your boyfriend can't read" - maybe he sees the person in a lower light because of her relationship? I am thinking that he is singing about a certain slut: "Turning over in interrupted slumber, You ponder others, growing ever wakeful," (others = guys that she slept with in the past) "So unhappy, yet so preoccupied," (based on my experience, ha, i can relate to that) "You are vacant and submissive, receptive to abuse, Virtue isn't tangible, and sense of self is dated, Names constant on your cracked lips are now eviscerated" I think that when you sleep around, then yes you sort of think about your sense of self, he is talking about how this girl has lost her sense of self and how she's becoming submissive to just any guy. | yeah i really think that this is the best of ctts for both lyrics and vocals. there would be this classical ambient, almost holy, beginning..and then the voice/s would whisper in increasing volume and emotion the first seven lines and the scream 'bored as FUCK' by the chick. the whole song has bursts of great moments (pretty much most of it) and the little breaks in between such as the repeating 'the plague', 'just a scratch upon the skin' and finally monk-like chanting before the screams at the end. | |

im just gonna go with renegade's idea of death.. in the second sentence, he talks about cold monuments - perhaps the coldness of a gravestone, a coffin or even of a dead body. he would have talked about wanting to kill himself (this is after all grief), or you can also take it to a less extreme emotional thing .. like how a death of a loved one reminds him of how everyone, including himself, will have to die one day: "please lay out my best suit for me" perhaps there is something that he wanted to tell to this dead person, and it has given him the idea of wanting to know any secrets (take a sloppy example - a secret love wanting him etc) from others: 'and tell me every word you want to hear." or maybe he just wants to make sure that when he dies, he doesn't make anyone feel regret or imperfect..hmm |

When he made reference to a certain 'you' I think that it doesn't target a certain person and his/her's actions to the girl, i think it symbolises everything that can rock a relationship such as: You gave me hate, greed, confusion... You told me nine times before and you said that her touch was not love all these years... (distrust, doubt) Man I just love the last seven lines of this song because I can relate to it so much, not just the whole love issue, but the feeling of being unable to return what other people have given to you. For him, this girl gave him life and everything but he must have done something, such as ignore her advances. and by the time he realises this, he's too late and to the girl, she is dying to him (maybe have found another person?): I have so much conscience tied to my neck.
