Tool – Wings for Marie (Pt. 1) Lyrics 12 years ago
Touching song. He must have been so conflicted, I'm sure we can all relate in some way. A brutally honest song.

Counting Crows – Angels Of The Silence Lyrics 12 years ago
I met someone once who inspired me, woke something up in me that had been paralyzed for a long time, and before I could really appreciate who this person was, they were gone. I have been wanting more for some time now, and I can really relate to this song, because I am standing here with feathers in my hand. I love this song, and anyone else who loves it.

Michael Hutchence – Slide Away Lyrics 12 years ago
This is a beautiful song. I guess everyone wants a fresh start at some time or another. A touching side-note, Bono, who was a good friend to Hutchence, apparently wrote lyrics for this unfinished song after Hutchence's suicide. Making Bono's verse both beautiful and painful. Rest in peace, Michael, I hope maybe you found what you were looking for. ?

Bruce Springsteen – Blinded By The Light Lyrics 13 years ago
I think everyone has misinterpreted the "deuce" line, or at least said " Is he saying douche?!?" I remember having a good laugh about that with a girlfriend a long time ago. I knew that he couldn't be saying douche, but that's the way I always walked around mumbling it: " Blinded by the light, WRAPPED UP LIKE A DOUCHE, another runner in the night". Funny shit. I guess if you knew cars, you would have made the "Deuce" connection, but I didn't, so, I didn't. A "Deuce" is a car, right?

R.E.M. – Nightswimming Lyrics 13 years ago
"...September's coming soon..."

I love/hate that line.

I think this song is brilliant. Michael Stipe is an amazing songwriter. I must admit, I have to be in the right mood to be able to listen to this, though. So sweet and sad.

Rob Zombie – More Human Than Human Lyrics 13 years ago
I don't know what it's about, but if I ever make a movie about a cannibalistic, drugged-out, sex-crazed, necrophilliac serial killer, this song will roll during the title sequence.

Foo Fighters – DOA Lyrics 13 years ago
To me, this song is about our mortality, how finite it is, and trying not to wast our time with worry or fear, and not beating yourself up for past mistakes.

I guess it's better if we can have a healthy attitude about these things, and Dave is right there with us, screaming in the face of it, reminding us that we are all in this together, drifting toward the same inevitable sunset.

The line ".. It's a shame we have to die, my dear, no one's getting out of here alive..." looks death straight in the eye, with a defiant, " take your best shot " glare, encouraging us to take his hand and to run for as long as we can. A really empowering song.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Disarm Lyrics 13 years ago
This song has always struck a deep chord in me. A lot of people don't have the best childhoods, and sometimes you want to let people who hurt or neglected you know how you feel about it.

This song speaks to that. He wants to let his parents know what they did to him. He is bitter about his abbreviated childhood, and is trying to get some closure.

Slightly off topic, and just putting it out there, whenever i hear this song I think about Jeffrey Dahmer! Before you freak out, do a little research on him, and then listen to the song. If I were to make a movie on his life and death, I would close with this song.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Ava Adore Lyrics 14 years ago
" lovely girl, you're the murder in my world
dressing coffins for the souls I've left behind "

- That is one of my favorite lines in a song ever. I was intrigued to see what everyone thought about this song, and I am not surprised to see that the song doesn't appear to have an "official" meaning.

Some people have said that they think that this song is about a destructive relationship, citing lines like " You'll always be my whore " and " drinking mercury..." And I think that that is valid, but I see it as perhaps a relationship between two people who are ... "strange", for lack of a better word. In this union of two quirky people, the things others would see as destructive, as abusive, they see as a normal expression of their love. -Everybody has a soul mate. I love this song.

R.E.M. – Strange Currencies Lyrics 14 years ago
I love this song. It is one of those songs that pulls at me. This is the kind of song all of us on this page would write, if we could, to that person who just won't or can't give us a chance. Life is so short, and to be able to find someone that you truly love is a blessing. But to not be able to get through to that person, for whatever reason, and the frustration and longing that go along with that, those are things that I guess so many of us can relate to. I remember this girl I had a huge crush on, and about the time all of that was at it's apex, this song came out. I used to just drive around and play my "Monster" cassette, and just sing along. Man, did I feel this song. God, I feel alone.

Afghan Whigs – 66 Lyrics 14 years ago
Where are the Whig fans?

Well, I guess there never really that many.

I remember when the "Honkey's Ladder" vid was on MTV, a hundred years ago. I thought that was the end of the Whig's anonymity. I had visions of bandwagon hell. It never happened, though. I guess most people just don't get the Afghan Whigs.

This song makes you wish that you were Greg Dulli. I swear, no one wrote songs like him. No one white, at least.

I still can't really listen to the Twilight Singers yet, I just can't bring myself to give it a chance, I am still in mourning. ( Isn't that ridiculous ? )

Sigh... wish it were 1994.

Mazzy Star – Fade Into You Lyrics 14 years ago
To me this song is about being drawn to someone who is a mystery to you. You wonder what is in their head, what are they hiding in their hearts? Where do they go when they disappear?

Some people just have a hole in them. I suppose. I know I always have. And you can be so wrapped up in your own head sometimes that you are oblivious to someone else's feelings for you. They want to fill your sadness, they want to be the one that rescues you.

I love the line, " I think it's strange you never knew " That line gets to me, because she is finally telling him how she feels.

A great song to listen to on a late-night drive, when you can't sleep, when the past is all you can think about.

Are you guys sure that the last line isn't "... you may win or lose..."instead of "... even when you lose..." ?

I love this song. It hits home for me. "sniff".

Soundgarden – The Day I Tried to Live Lyrics 14 years ago
SinisterE nailed it. What cost do are you willing to pay to "fit-in", and be successful in the eyes of the status quo? And do you want to see just how much like them you can be? Maybe tomorrow you can find a loop-hole. Probably better odds of finding a worm-hole.

Dio – Rainbow In The Dark Lyrics 14 years ago
i have always thought that the song was talking about trying to resist an overpowering urge to do something heinous, " Lost my hold..." " Do your demons ever let you go?" Then losing hope of overcoming it, " You've been left on your own...". And finally a warning, as he is about to give in, "... you hear it calling you, beware!" Because if you cross this line, and you do this thing, there will be no coming back.
