A Tribe Called Quest – Youthful Expression Lyrics 10 years ago
Whenever people try to defend some teeny-bopper musician for their lyrics (ie Taylor Swift) I show them this song and say, "These guys were 19 when it came out."

Oh and the best part about him saying "Rastafarianism" is the fact that Rastas don't believe in "isms".

The Lonely Island – Ras Trent Lyrics 10 years ago
This song is way easier to appreciate if you listen to a lot of reggae already. Andy manages to touch on just about every generic reggae topic and word in this song. Hats off to him. I wish the song was longer!

Umphrey's Mcgee – Anchor Drops Lyrics 10 years ago
Very interesting thoughts behind it. I always just thought their lyrics were just ridiculously vague, but that's what makes it cool because you can think what you want.

Umphrey's Mcgee – 40's Theme Lyrics 10 years ago
Is this song a cover? Either way, the first time I heard it was truly life changing. Everyone I've showed it to says it's the grooviest funniest song they've heard.

If you don't know what it's about, go buy a 40 or 2 and have a BBQ.

Common – The People Lyrics 10 years ago
Wow, no comments yet? This song is a song that I feel a lot of people can relate to. A lot of time I feel like I need to do something just to help out the greater good of others. It seems that Common feels like he needs to continue is work because it's helping others out. This is a great inspirational tune.

Bob Marley and the Wailers – Positive Vibration Lyrics 10 years ago
If more people listened to this song, I feel we would be a lot better off. It's so easy, so innocent, and so immature. I feel a child would listen to this song and say, "Why does he have to say this?" That being said, take it to heart! Help someone out, and try not to get upset over the useless crap.

Chromeo – Opening Up Lyrics 10 years ago
I thought I heard that too; good to see that I'm not alone.

And the groovy French part, as translated by Google Translate:

Let you go, tonight we will dance, dance
Put your shoe, your tight pants
Really let yourself go
Tonight we will dance, dance
Let you go, tonight we will dance, dance
Put your shoes, your tight pants
Really let yourself go
Tonight we will dance, dance

Psalm 139:5 (NIV)
You hem me in—behind and before;
you have laid your hand upon me.

Heard that in church this morning. Awesome song and I love the counterpuntal vocals at the end!

Sufjan Stevens – For the Widows in Paradise, for the Fatherless in Ypsilanti Lyrics 12 years ago
Beautiful song indeed.

Now something that's on my mind, why do you guys care if it's a Christian song? You're saying that it's a beautiful song about loving your neighbor and a father figure who's ALWAYS there for you-- so what's the problem with believing there's a God? After all, Christianity is not just fire and brimstone.

Is this song not really creepy?

Talking Heads – Making Flippy Floppy (Stop Making Sense Version) Lyrics 12 years ago
To me, this song seems to me to be a "if life gives you lemons, make lemonade" type thing.

"Makin' flippy floppy,
trying to do my best."

Sums it up. Making flippy into floppy.

King Crimson – Waiting Man Lyrics 12 years ago
It seems pretty obvious to what this song's about. I think it's about a guy who falls in love with a girl, the girl goes off to a new (possibly better looking, richer, but not nicer) guy, and the waiting man knows that their relationship will end, so he just sits and waits for her to come back to him. Really a deep and touching song IMNSHO.

The violin in the intro is Sugar Cane Harris? I thought it was Jean-Luc Ponty. What does JLP play on for Zappa?

King Crimson – The Great Deceiver Lyrics 13 years ago
I think the Great Deceiver is religion. It shows how hypocrital it is.

The chorus pretty much sums it up. Cigarettes (not healthy at all,) ice cream (a metaphor possibly?,) figurines of the virgin Mary (showing that these church powers smoke and eat, but they still have the virgin Mary so they're still "good people.")

King Crimson – Sleepless Lyrics 13 years ago
Seems to me that it's about a re-occurring nightmare.

Dream Theater – Learning to Live Lyrics 13 years ago
The AIDS thing is probably what the song was WRITTEN about, but I have a different interpretation. I feel that it's about just getting all the shit that's on your mind off of your mind. Learning to live means learning to live peacefully, tranquily, relaxed, and healthy (mentally, not neccessarily physically.) Kind of reminds me of the whole prying open your third eye thing.

Dream Theater – New Millennium Lyrics 13 years ago
"was there y2k stuff actually going on in 1996/1997? lol I wouldn't know I was only 6, 7, or 8 at the time.."

Yeah I was the same age as you, but it wasn't going on then. Nobody was really even talking about it until at least 1998, but i'm guessing 1999.

My guess is that this song is about just accepting change and taking it with the best of intentions.

Dream Theater – Lie Lyrics 13 years ago
I heard this song was written by Kevin Moore and KM said it was about something else, but it was really about how he hated his bandmates, and that's why he left right after this album.

Dream Theater – Metropolis, Pt. 1: "The Miracle and the Sleeper" Lyrics 13 years ago
This song is simply amazing. I have a hard time finding what it's about though. I know it's the first part of the Metropolis series, but it kind of comes off to me as being about someone who gets murdered and Part II is about the reincarnation. I'd like to know what "The Miracle" and "The Sleeper" is though.

Now on to the musicianship part-- this song is stunning. I play bass, and I can keep up all the way through the bass tapping solo and part in E minor and the crazy walk up right after the E minor, but as soon as it gets that part where when live it normally get's really dark and silent for an un-defined amount of time and then it just gets crazy I cannot keep up for my life.

Primus – Arnie Lyrics 14 years ago
Give careful listen to the closing track on The Brown Album, "Arnie," a three-and-a-half-minute, booming instrumental, disturbed only by a few unminced words about the protagonist's desperate struggle for one shining minute in the spotlight, a struggle that leads the mysto-man to douse himself with lighter fluid and torch himself onstage, burning to cinders at the microphone with the ominous au revoir, "Remember this day!"

I found that on some interview. And also, what is this whole Political 1800's thing the Brown Album is about?

Primus – Mary the Ice Cube Lyrics 14 years ago
Found this on a site:
"Mary the Ice Cube", another new ditty about a man who falls in love with an ice cube and must cope with his loss once it melts, recalls some of the humor that has been ever present in the Primus catalog. "I think humor in music, and humor in just existing is a very wonderful thing. People that are overly serious I tend to find aren't very happy, or at least not very fun to be around," Claypool says.

Primus – Pilcher's Squad Lyrics 14 years ago
I got these lyrics from The Animals should not try to act like people CD/DVD booklet.

I think it's about racial riots back in the 60's/70's or some SWAT-like drug busters.
