Dustin Kensrue – I Knew You Before Lyrics | 17 years ago |
just a note, the original lyrics were as follows: You were once a sweet little girl, so innocent and pure. Your eyes were open and sure anyone could look right in. and wallow close to your gaze. you looked up towards the sky but I watched your face drift away, other things caught your eye. The magazines and media supplied you with their plastic protocol and maybe music television really is the devil after all but all I can say is I knew you before you were beautiful back then Before you grew up, before you gave in. You dream of sharing your heart You said you'd share your bed and the pain you feel doesn't leave with all the skin you have shed. And you dream of bearing your soul instead you bear your skin and you wear dark glasses to keep anyone from looking in. The magazines and media supplied you with their plastic protocol and maybe music television really is the devil after all but all I can say is I knew you before you were beautiful back then Before you grew up, before you gave in. but all I can say is I knew you before, you were beautiful back then. You could be beautiful again. In the original versions Dustin did, the song was just acoustic. It had a complete different sound and feel.. A real importance to the "knew you before you were beautiful / back then" almost to say.. both "I knew you before you were beautiful" and "I knew you before. You were beautiful back then" Maybe I'm wrong, about the wordplay, but it just feels right.... I take it to say that people lose their inner beauty searching for something superficial. It definitely sounds like it's a story about a girl, but who knows the real meaning. one more thing: the original title dustin had for the song was just "Folk", maybe an emphasis on the fact that it's a story? as well as his progression into the sound. |
Dustin Kensrue – Blood & Wine Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song is about Dustin pretending to be Johnny Cash, unfortunately, cocaine, guns, and women? and faking an accent too. what happened? |
Van Morrison – Brown Eyed Girl Lyrics | 18 years ago |
the good thing about song lyrics is that you can interpert them however you want.. They can be about love if you want, or they can be about anal sex if you want. "Whatever floats your boat." |
Damian Marley – Still Searching Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song is the song which got me into reggae music. As for the meaning it seems to be different takes on love in the lives of the different vocalists in the song. Basically it's abotu finiding that right person |
Azure Ray – Sleep Lyrics | 18 years ago |
are you guys kidding me? This song is amazing. |
Glassjaw – Ape Dos Mil Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song seems to be about a guy who broke up with a girl for a guy who sleeps around. The girl doesnt want to accept that fact. The line about Calypso is pretty clever.. Calypso the sea nymph goddess.. Think about it. Maybe he's sleeping around because hes lost at sea away from home(or his ex) such as odyessus. More likely the song is about how Daryl cheated on his gf/wife/whatever while on tour and he wants her back, but he knows that it was wrong.. the horns out.. the blame..he knows shes right. The only thing you'd have to change is the he like to "I'm". Maybe he was just too ashamed to admit his own shame?? untill the part about the horns. Everything kind of leads to this.. "you cant trust me", "ease back the blame", etc The ape thing needs to be examined more, it is the title after all.. I think maybe he feels like a jerk for "killing" his own species.. "ape shall not kill ape" the "you cant trust me" line is huge. |
Incubus – Just A Phase Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This song is almost definitely about fads and most likely fads in the music business. The cool thing about incubus is that there lyrics are so poetic that they are left open for interpratation. Though the line "You are a fingernail running down the chalkboard I thought I left in third grade" could be reffering to a bands sound or intellect, it really can apply to just about anyone who you believe is immature. |
Death Cab for Cutie – The Sound of Settling Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Great song, don't know how many times this has happened to me... Anyways I think this whole song is about being afraid to talk to girls.. The sound of settling means that there is no sound in not speaking up, there is just stagnancy. settling meaning "not moving, not progressing" |
Bright Eyes – Waste of Paint Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I believe this song is about the desire for happiness and the constant sense of failure people feel no matter how much they accomplish. So pretty much not amounting to what you want. I love how there are the different examples of people all in difficult siutuations. ""but it's all I want To be loved, and believe In my soul, in my soul"" |
