The Beatles – Tomorrow Never Knows Lyrics 18 years ago
Yea but its not the "real" tibetan book of the dead...its timothy leary's (the LSD guru) version of it...therefore it is about acid. Really cool song though, different than the rest of the album.

The Moody Blues – Have You Heard (Part 2) Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is so good. On the Threshold of a Dream is in fact an amazing album and i'd say this section (Have You Heard Part 1, The Voyage, Have You Heard Part 2) is the best part along with conclusion of the album. I have no doubt as to whether this song is about acid. The Voyage is the trip and this is him looking back with his experience-partner whom he guided: "Now you know how nice it feels,"...eh eh eh? "Turned on to the same word,"...eh eh eh?...and I think it may actually be "turned on to the same WORLD," but I don't know. Amazing song from an amazing band.

The Byrds – Turn! Turn! Turn! (To Everything There Is a Season) Lyrics 18 years ago
Peter Seeger was the first artist to adapt this song, from the original text. A lot of the Byrd's early songs were covers, mostly Dylan, but i think the songs they wrote like Feel a Whole Lot Better, Eight Miles High, I Was'nt Born to Follow, I Was so Much Older Then and a lot of others show us that these buys (though the ranks were ever-changing) were amazing musicians.

I dont really like this song all that much though..I think Mr. Tambourine Man was a much better cover/single.

The Byrds – Eight Miles High Lyrics 18 years ago
I'd say it inspired most all bands in some way..its very innovative, probably the first psychadelic song...there were however others in the making when this was released such as the Psychadelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators and The Mother's of Invention's 1966 album FREAK OUT. Anyways good song, amazing lyrics and chill-inspiring guitar.

Pink Floyd – Astronomy Domine Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is amazing..maybe my favorite off of Piper...The version of this song on Ummagumma is amazing. It does differ greatly however, from Syd's original. I like Syd's singing better than David's ad I think (although David became much better than Syd) there guitars are both very good and equal. I have found that Syd uses minamilist guitar...he does'nt play all that much in songs, making it special when he does. I like the drumming in the live version becase theres much more of it, like a semi steady ride instead of just toms and the occasional crash-thats prob cause im a drummer though...Anyways great song, it was pointing towards the direction which they were going (spacey enviornmental themes, with hushed and mysterious singing).

Pink Floyd – Any Colour You Like Lyrics 18 years ago
Actually Roger did Psychadelics a few times, I think 3 to be exact. Rick was bigger into drugs than the others and would often experiment with Syd. So it was Rick and Syd, and then Roger and Nick would often drink (not excessively or anything). David smoked weed but I don't know what else he did. Haha in the Live at Pompeii, during Mademoissle Nobs (Seamus) look at David's eyes...There red as shit...anywho Rick started doing cocaine later in the 70's and that was one of the reasons Roger booted him. Now I don't like it how any sort of different/mildly avant-garde band is deemed a drug centered band, it is more often than not the case. It really is much better to listen to Dark Side of the Moon under the influence; The Floyd are famous for creating (In there early years at least) a wall of sound. Their instruments blend like an orchestra its amazing... When u are stoned however you can single out any instrument and notice backround sounds you would have never noticed before.

Anyways this song is AMAZING, one of my favorite on DSOTM. I think a lot of us kids who listen to Dark Side today, just skip over this track along with Great Gig and On the Run, because its instrumental...that is doing a disjustice to themselves. A lot of Pink Floyd's instrumentals are amazing..like most of Ummagumma, the title track from More, a few from Obscured by Clouds, One of these Days and so on...The Pink Floyd started out as a jam band. Just take a look at early jams like Interstellar Overdrive or Nick's Boogie. Theres a great bootlegged jam called Sunshine, I do believe it was during Syd's era...hard to tell though cause of no singing (I found it on Winmx) a while ago.

Pink Floyd – Cymbaline Lyrics 18 years ago
Cymbaline is a play by Shakespeare...don't know what its about though. Anyways this song is amazing. Indefinetly More's best song, although Green is the Colour and Cirrus Minor are good too.

Pink Floyd – Childhood's End Lyrics 18 years ago
I havent seen La Vallee but I have seen More and im not willing to stick my neck out to find it after that first B-rated hippy movie (not that hippies are bad). U cant really rent More or La Vallee so to see them u or someone u know has to buy it. But this song is really good. This combined with Echoes are the roots to DSOTM. They merge to form this dreamy sound about life. Good stuff.

Pink Floyd – [The Wall Concept] Lyrics 18 years ago
THE WALL

I personally am not a big fan of the Wall. It is the culmination of what i call Pink Floyd's "Personal Age". The floyd started out spacey and universal. Dark Side is a perfect example of this. They dont really have any songs about love with the exception of a few mentions of the word in Bike, Set the Controls so on...With wish you were here (although Shine On and the Title track are very good) they started talking about very "petty things" not to berate Syd's downfall or anything but they stopped talking about global human nature(DSOTM), aliens (Let There Be More LIght), Space Travel (Astronomy Domine, Interstellar Overdrive), existence (Childhoods End) and so many more. They pulled it back togather with Animals, and although ti did not have the original "Space Rock" appeal it still was a very good Prog Rock album about humans. The Wall and Final Cut are sniveling therapy sessions, good in there own right, but not what the Pink Floyd originally were. Although I hate to deem the "radio hit" the best song on the album I do think Comfortably Numb is the best. Gilmour's singing is very beutiful and contrasts Waters' well. The Show Must Go On is catchy but a bit short. Mother is god especially when Gilmour sings his part which sounds very maternal. EMPTY SPACES AND YOUNG LUST ARE THE TWO WORST SONGS I HAVE EVER HEARD. Young Lust is a typical gilmour song. Very poppy almost 80's sound similar to A Momentary Lapse of Reason, complete with yelled lyrics and syntehtic sounding drums and funky bass. Terrible. Not Pink Floyd. Another Brick in the Wall (Specially Part 2) really is a terrible song. Pink Floyd always stayed away from the repeated choruses and lyrics; THATS ALL THIS SONG IS! I Love One of My Turns, very good transition from the slow part. Its my fave part of the movie. In The Flesh always reminds me of One of these Days, with the drums and stinging chords. The second half of Disc Two is very good. Run Like Hell is really good (I like the PULSE version better than the studio). Is There Anybody Out There is stunnigly beutiful and frightening. Indefinetly one of the Album's top three. Bring The Boys Back home sucks and I think Outsie the Wall is garbage, a very anticlimactic ending. Im not a fan of Hey You either, although it used to be one of my favorties.

Well the last line is a regretful line. He sort of asked her to help build the wall but wasnt exactly ready for it to be so high.

Pink Floyd – One of These Days Lyrics 18 years ago
This song actualluy COULDNT remind me LESS of Shine on You Crazy Diamond. Shine on is a mellow chill track with dreamy landscapes and poingnat landscapes. This is a hard rocking song with no sung lyrics and is quite short for a PF song. Echoes reminds me more of Shine On; the two are EXTREMELY similar in composition. But anyways this song is great, on LIve At Pompei Nick goes right into slow motion before the steady song really starts and then accelerates into fast just as they smash through the drum soloing and demonic words. :)

Pink Floyd – Lucifer Sam Lyrics 19 years ago
This song always reminds me of the chesire cat sitting next to the duchess in Alice in Wonderland. Also the way it starts on one side and comes to the other sounds like the chesire puss's sort of "telepotation".
