Norah Jones – Butterflies Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Actually, the song isn't just about Blanche DuBois because the sound bites are not just from Streetcar, but also from CasaBlanca. ("I never thought I'd see you again," "Who are you now and what were you before?" and "Where were you last night?" are all quotations from that movie.) Also, the quote included from Streetcar is when Blanche is really desperate and hits on the young mailboy/paper delivery boy...don't remember from highschool; not from her relationship with either of the two main characters (Stanley and Stella), so that makes the song even more removed from being exclusively about Blanche. As far as what this kind of evokes for me is the idea of the fairy-tale/black&white/old-fashioned romance ideas that are all a little bit twisted and sad. Even the infamous characters in those beautiful movies have been immortalized because of their pain, not because of the simplicity and happy endings. Regardless, the song still makes me want to watch those movies and live in them! |
Badly Drawn Boy – This Is That New Song Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this song reminds me of how I saw things right after my best friend's father died right before her 18th birthday...just the idea of the beauty and the guidence that he won't share with her in the future...makes me want to cry. |
Belle & Sebastian – Mayfly Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i believe some corrections need to be made... Lovesick on a sunny afternoon You are tired of STAYING IN You are waiting for A SIGN Mayfly, woken up when skys are clear I don't mind you coming near Keep me company till she comes again You are the one who's MAKING DO I am the one who's PRIVY TO Because you saw him in the park Because you saw him at the bridges with the people in the DARK and next verse: You are the one who's MAKING DO I am the one who's PRIVY TO __'cause you saw him at the celebration standing at the SIDE YOU had the move_ to save the day AND you would love him anyway and verse 3: Lovesick, it came back upon yourself You are the ONE left on the shelf You are incapable of playing the fool Longing...so what's different today? You sent the boy_ and girl_ away You are concerned with matters lofty But puzzled so it makes you sick Your diary's looking like THE bible with it's verses lost in time Lost in meaning for the people who surround you It's a crying shame You know it's a crying shame Thats my 2 cents... |

*sigh* love you |
Coldplay – Square One Lyrics | 19 years ago |
typical teen angst and misunderstanding, thats what i think. I think he's sympathizing with teens slash one in particular who feels misunderstood and underappreciated. SO universal. |
Brendan Benson – Cold Hands (Warm Heart) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
i love love that his lyrics are so simple but true, and it doesnt take a genius to know he's talking about a relationship thats not working and needs to end. But who could have put it so elegantly? I'm new to BB, but I'm an instant fan. |
Phish – Anything But Me Lyrics | 19 years ago |
this is my favorite phish song and i cant believe people havent responded to it yet. Its glorious glorious and just sets a mood like none other, and the lyrics speak perfectly to what its like to love someone so much and not be able to have them. |
Phish – Chalk Dust Torture Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I heard this song is about Taft, the boarding school Trey graduated from, and where I currently go. but that could just be taftie folklore, and it could actually be written by Tom. But whoever wrote it about whatever school, it hits a real cord man. |
Graham Colton – Waking Up Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Ok, lame, but I first heard this concert when Graham and the boys gave a concert at my school last spring. It was a musky rainy day/night, we were all in Centen courtyard and my really good guy friend who i had started moving away from came up behind me and put his arms around my waste and we just kind of stood there and enjoyed this song as one person. I think of this as my waking up to what i was about to lose in a friend, though I was still too stupid at the time to realize it. In retrospect, I wish I had turned around that night and just kissed him instead of wondering what he would do. It all seems so simple now. |
Radiohead – Fake Plastic Trees Lyrics | 19 years ago |
this song sends chills up my spine. i dont know what this is about, but i'm at boarding school and this is what i put on in my room when i feel like i'm in a pressure cooker. i love it here, but sometimes i feel like im in a school to breed trophy wives and stupid doctors and i hate finding myself acting like a clone of the people i am surrounded by, shortchanging who i am. but then when i try to be myself, i get so worn down, feeling like i always have to be something spectacular in order to justify my difference. this song is like coming home, letting it wash over me and its like being recharged. when it says If I could be who you wanted all the time...I feel like its me talking to myself, telling myself to chill out and not forcing myself to be any cookie cutter of anything. I dont have to be a rebel, but i dont have to be all pink and polka dots all the time (though sometimes its fun!) PS, that was such a vent. Its amazing what putting that into words can do. |
Weezer – Butterfly Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I can hear what you all are saying about Madame Butterfly, Rivers was definitely influenced by the story. But I think this song particularly speaks to a broader theme than just this dude who used some young girl and promised her things. I cant help but immediately think of that Of Mice and Men theme and its applications to life. You can't abuse what you have, its precious. Be wary of loving too much>>>that goes out to all those guys who fall in love too easily! |
