Jeff Buckley – Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen cover) Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
"what verse is about an orgasm?"
Well there was a time when you let me know
What's really going on below
But now you never show that to me do you
But remember when i moved in you
And the holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was hallelujah
That one. |

David Bowie – Cactus Lyrics

The original spells P-I-X-I-E-S
Obviously, Bowie would spell out D-A-V-I-D.
Great song, either way. |

Rammstein – Spiel Mit Mir (English) Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
I think it is about a brother and sister (twins, possibly?) who have been very close emotionally when they were younger and that led to stronger feelings when they both hit puberty. I'm guessing they had religious parents who did not tell them about sex and conraception, so when they found themselves attracted to each other, they thought nothing of it and just went ahead and did it. The sister became pregnant ("father, mother, child").
Great song. |

After reading The Outsider/The Stranger, I went and listened to Bohemian Rhapsody, checking some of the lyrics against some passages from the book.
My verdict? Bohemian Rhapsody is most definitely based on The Outsider. I might explain this better sometime later, when my head doesn't hurt. |

Pixies – Motorway To Roswell Lyrics
|
This song is just so beautiful ... when the outro kicks in, with the piano bit, you can *see* a lonely, starry sky about a motorway and the wreck of a spaceship lying forsaken in the middle *bursts into tears*
How the holy hell can a song about aliens be so sad and moving? Pixies were THE best. |

Pixies – Alec Eiffel Lyrics

|
On Pixies vs. Nirvana:
Would you rather listen to some whiny shit with burnt-yellow hair moan about his life than a fat guy with a crewcut singing about aliens, the Eiffel tower and monkeys?
I'll take Pixies over Nirvana any day, thanks ^_^
As to this song ... simply great. |

@Duke: well, why "the electric chair"? I think it was a lethal injection, a suitable end for an apparent druggy (if we are going to take the literal meaning of the song, then it's likely the "poor boy" was also a drug addict). ^_^
@goodluck: go listen to Westlife, little girl/listen to Britney Spears, little boy (whichever you are). You aren't mature enough for Bo' Rhap. |

Against Me! – Baby, I'm an Anarchist! Lyrics
| 18 years ago

I love this song. Most people I know are "spineless liberals", but metaphorically: they'll stand up for a cause until it's time to act out their words.
Man, Against Me! are amazing ... where were they all my life?! |

The Used – Under Pressure (with My Chemical Romance) Lyrics

FYAD_Loves_You: go fuck yourself with a spike-studded dildo, you idiot. Mercury was a genius. You obviously can't appreciate his talent. Go listen to Simple Plan.
Oh, and the original is definetly better. MCR and The Used raped this song. Freddie rolls in his grave. |

David Bowie – Dancing in the Street Lyrics

No, the song was recorded a long time after Jagger and Bowie were found in bed together. Technically, though both were naked, there is no way to prove they actually slept with each other.
For the record, I don't care.
I also really like this song. |

Rammstein – Zwitter (English) Lyrics
|
Also (sorry for double-posting), it seems that this song is about how two people were so in love, they became one person:
I have stolen a kiss from her
she wanted to get it back
I have not let her go again
we melted into one piece
it is just too right for me
I dunno. Seems Zwitter is one of *those* songs that mean anything you want them to mean ... |

Bob Dylan – A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall Lyrics

I think "I met a white man who was walking a black dog" refers to the exploitation and humiliation non-white Americans were subjected to.
This is a really touching song. I've only recently gotten into Bob Dylan and this song brings tears to my eyes. |

David Bowie – Reality Lyrics
|
I agree. Bowie has once again proven that he's almost immortal.
Also, I think ""I've been right and I've been wrong/Now I'm right back where I started from/Never looked over reality's shoulder" refers to him always changing stange personas and attitudes, but never showing who he really was: i.e. messing with reality. |

Ramones – Today Your Love, Tomorrow The World Lyrics
| 19 years ago

This is a great song ... I think "Today your love, tomorrow the world" refers to Nazis and Germans being human, with feelings and hopes and dreams, instead of mindless killing machines, as the media of the US of A reperesents them to this day. |

Queen – Don't Stop Me Now Lyrics

Just in retrospect, this songs seems sad. That sort of lifestyle was what killed a lot of geniuses, including Mercury.
I didn't mean he WROTE it about dying, I just think that is what it came to mean years and years later. |

I know that Mercury did cocaine and possibly heroine. Also, the LSD explanation is interesting ...
Btw, recently, my seven-year-old cousin suggested that the falsetto-bass cries of "Galileo" are the poor boy's parents shouting at him. Aren't little kids cute? *cynical smirk* |

^Yes, it probably is about that. Nevertheless, great song. When I first heard it, I remember my heart stopping for a second when it got to "there's something wrong/can you hear me, Major Tom?". Chilling, but brilliant song.
Don't over-analyse it. |

David Bowie – Rock 'n' Roll Suicide Lyrics

I was going through a rather hairy period when I heard this song and it certainly cheered me up. When you're depressed and on the edge of suicide, someone telling you "no, love, you're not alone" can be very strengthening.
All hail Bowie! |

Queen – Las Palabras de Amor (The Words of Love) Lyrics

To me, it's "what foolish world/so many songs/senselessly heard/through the never-ending cold".
Anyway, I don't really like Queen's 80's output and I only like two other songs from Hot Space (Life Is Real and Under Pressure) but this song is wonderful. Pity it's not as well-known as say ... Another One Bites The Dust. |

Rebel, Rebel is one of those songs which I think were written about me. ;-) I suppose every teenager feels that, but I remember walking to school with a heavy bag, anticipating another day of being teased and misunderstood, listening to this song, and I remember feeling a little better about being diffrerent.
In other words, great song. |
