it honestly doesn't matter whether you're disappointed in david's songwriting in this song because it's not for you. it's for him and from him. keep that in mind. where you get off thinking you're "disappointed" in him is way beyond me. write your own damn songs. to me, "gideon is in the drawer", like said before, refers to the bibles played in the night stand drawers of most hotel rooms. i think it's almost saying that while he's committing adultery, him knowing the bible is right there, in the drawer, means that he's doing something he knows he isn't supposed to but the lust is so strong that he can't help it. |

i think this song is about someone who had fallen in love in the past and got hurt and so used to feeling so numb to the world- to protect themselves. so when it comes to meeting the one person they're supposed to be with, that feels so right, they're too scared to try it. and by saying: "Then the longest winter is on her way You called her without knowing it But now it's too late" once they realized they didn't want to be lonely and without that person anymore it was too late. and like dmb2135 said, winter is depressing because it is usually associated with lonliness. so in this song, winter is a metaphor for lonliness. |

I full heartedly agree with you, nineagain. Well, for the most part. I definiately percieve this song to be about love but in a different sense than you. I see this song as someone who is so in love with someone that that person could do whatever they wanted and even though it would hurt them and break them apart they don't want them to leave because they're apart them. "All the things that got cracked When I felt like you lied to me And all the million mistakes And the kicks in the face But i don't want you to die in me So when you say what you want That you need what you got Don't forget to be kind to me I don't want you to die in me " I think, to me, what's being said here is that when all is said and done and you're done throwing your words at me and lying and i'm done forgiving whatever it is you do, I will always love you and want to me with you no matter what and not to leave me because you're apart of me. |
