The Dismemberment Plan – The Face of the Earth Lyrics | 14 years ago |
i took the line "Though it seems like I've spent my life in planes" to mean that he spends his life up in the air looking for her. |
Ambulance LTD – Sugar Pill Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i think thermo is on the right track here.. this song is about a girl he really doesn't care about. sugar pill is a placebo. not the real medication, it's just for the psychological effect. also, i think that the line is "I love you for the time that you kill" |
Death Cab for Cutie – Grapevine Fires Lyrics | 16 years ago |
First off, this is a great song. To me, it uses the setting of the california wildfires to show a terrible time in someone's life. The fire, the graveyard, the news reports, and the rented room are all are signs of a major disaster. It seems like his world is going to end for him, and doesn't know what the hell he's going to do. But then he sees the child laughing and playing in the midst of all of this. The child doesn't worry and stress out about the future; she just enjoys the here and now. Then he realizes "That everything would be all right". He should enjoy life while he can, even if things will never be the same. Suddenly, he's glad this is happening. His life WILL never be the same, it will be better. Burn.... |
Super Furry Animals – Run-Away Lyrics | 16 years ago |
really. fucking. catchy. |
Arizona – Some Kind of Chill Lyrics | 17 years ago |
wonderful |
Swan Lake – All Fires Lyrics | 17 years ago |
beautiful song. as far as the meaning goes, the singer is in a relationship with this wonderful girl (Teresa) that everyone adores. There is a disaster in the relationship (symbolized by the flood), and he knows that even if he tears apart everything sacred to him (church steeple), its not certain that things will work out (about a 50/50 chance). but hes saying that he must give it everything he has no matter what. all fires must burn alive to live |
We Are Scientists – Textbook Lyrics | 18 years ago |
boney wins. |
Snow Patrol – You Could Be Happy Lyrics | 18 years ago |
"You could be happy and I won't know" i think this is just about the most depressing thing that can be said about someone you love |
Stars – Your Ex-Lover Is Dead Lyrics | 18 years ago |
beautiful song about the awkwardness between ex-lovers after the relationship is over and the emotional wounds have healed but isnt it: I'm not sorry there's nothing to say I'm not sorry there's nothing to save? |
Franz Ferdinand – Walk Away Lyrics | 18 years ago |
'Why don't you walk away? Why don't you walk away? Why don't you walk away? No buildings will fall down Why don't you walk away? No quake will split the ground Why don't you walk away? The sun won't swallow the sky Why don't you walk away? Statues will not cry Why don't you walk away? Why don't you walk away?' he thinks he would be happy to get rid of his girlfriend 'And as you walk away, oh, as you walk away And as you walk away, my headstone crumbles down As you walk away, the Hollywood winds will howl As you walk away, the Kremlin's falling Oh, as you walk away, Radio 4 is static' but when it actually happens he realizes its a huge disaster 'The stab of stilettos On a silent night Stalin smiles and Hitler laughs Churchill claps Mao Tse-Tung on the back' as she leaves, his world is turned upside down and nothing is as it should be anymore |
of Montreal – So Begins Our Alabee Lyrics | 19 years ago |
fuckin good. |
The Decemberists – Of Angels and Angles Lyrics | 19 years ago |
i agree with trisweb. i think the lines There's a tough word on your crossword There's a bed bug nipping a finger There's a swallow, there's a calm Here's a hand to lay on your open palm today are meant to show how the couple just go about everyday life together. all of the little frustrations and annoyances of life are ok because they have each other to grow old with There are angels in your angles There's a low moon caught in your tangles There's a ticking at the sill There's a purr of a pigeon to break the still of day this is just a simple compliment for the girl he loves. in all the boredom and tediousness of life, theres something exciting, almost supernatural to him, about her |
Keane – Bedshaped Lyrics | 19 years ago |
i think it's a combination of the ideas mentioned so far "Many's the time I ran with you down The rainy roads of our old town Many the lives we lived in each day And buried altogether" the couple had a long happy relationship but she left him (or vice versa) "Don't laugh at me Don't look away You'll follow me back" and he's begged and pleaded for her to come back but she thinks it's silly how he's reacted "With the sun in your eyes And on your own Bedshaped And legs of stone You'll knock on my door And up we'll go In white light I don't think so" now he's left dreaming about her coming back to him on her own. 'bedshaped' indicating that it's a dream (as in shaped by the bed, not shaped like a bed). the 'legs of stone' meaning that she'll never leave again. "But what do I know What do I know? I know" in his head he doubts she'll come back but he still believes she will in his heart |
