Paul Simon – A Simple Desultory Philippic (Or How I Was Lyndon Johnson'd to Death) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
the title is wrong... it should read: A Simple Desultory Phillipic (or How I was Lyndon Johnsoned into Submission) in any case, I don't think it's necessarily making fun of dylan, the beatles or anyone else. If it is mocking anything it's society for holding these figures up as untouchable specifically, in the dylan reference, he's taking on the character of a dylan fan, not attacking dylan himself. |
The Mountain Goats – The Window Song Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song has incredible meaning to me... it's like a narrative of my third season with a girl who worked with me. Word for word, it hits home. A great time in my life. Obviously, in terms of meaning, it's pretty straight forward. Beautiful, and militantly lo-fi. |
Jump, Little Children – Cathedrals Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I saw Jay's solo tour last year and this is what i got from the 'confusing as hell story'... a member of the band was strung out on drugs and on a never-ending search to find a place to belong. |
Pearl Jam – Face of Love Lyrics | 19 years ago |
this is not a pearl jam song. rather, it is a song written by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, David Robbins, and Tim Robbins. Ed Vedder is the only member of pearl jam involved with the song and he only sings on it with Nusrat in the dead man walking soundtrack. |
Pearl Jam – Don't Drive Me Lyrics | 19 years ago |
great improv... first came out in denver on the '03 tour. it's great. to get the meaning, read the lyrics... not hard to interperate unless you want to get into societal consumption. I don't think ed vedder was intending to get into a debate over general society consumption with this song but he was pointing out only a portion of the aggregate trends. |
Pearl Jam – Saying No Lyrics | 19 years ago |
currently (this week) this is my favorite pearl jam song. if you don't know where to find it, get their show in Den Haag, Germany from 1992 (pearljamlive.com has streaming audio of it). It's about rape. rather, it's about saying rape is not good... fantastic song... great meaning. the last part is about society doing nothing about such a pervasive issue. "We sit back, like they taught us..." Society does nothing/not as much as we NEED to to stop rape. |
