I feel this song is written about troubles she had with an ex-boyfriend of hers. She's spoken about having dated a heavy metal drummer whilst living in New York (thus her being "the rockstar's girlfriend"). She's writing of the fights and ultimate ending of this relationship, and then of the struggles she went through when she first moved to LA (possibly not long after the break up?) and was trying to get signed and make a living through her music. That's just my interpretation though :) I love the "well it's alright baby, I'm nobody's mother.." line. It's her way of saying yeah I get it, I'm not THAT important to you, but just let me enjoy this last moment we have together. |

The Errol referred to in this song is actually Errol Flynn. He was born in Hobart, Tasmania and moved to Sydney - he was expelled from 2 schools there and so went and bought a tobacco plantation in New Guinea. One ining led to another (somehow) and he began working in movies, his first movie being "Captain Blood" in 1933, and from there-on he was typecast as the swashbuckling romantic hero. He was well known for his womanizing, drinking and brawling. He died of a heart attack in 1959. Sorry for the history lesson lol I just thought if I explained his life, the song might make a bit more sense =) |

The drums and guitar work are way different, and most black metal bands use some sort of keyboard work - there is nothing of the sort here. An ex Cannibal Corpse plays for Deicide now... and what is Cannibal Corpse? Death metal. They are similar, and always will be. The teller of the song (an onlooker) doesn't want to miss out on seeing this, so he follows the people. He gets right up to the front of the crowd to see this man standing on the bridge and screams at him. The man is standing still, when suddenly he backs out and tries to get down from the top of the bridge. The crowd turns on him and forces him back up, pushing him up. They are enraged and want him dead. They want to see this. The chorus sings "Jump, redeem me. Jump, don't disappoint me. Jump for me, jump into the light. Jump". Now the man is crying and the clouds above start to move. He's asking himself (and the crowd) "what have I done?" and suddenly the sun goes cold, everything is cold. He says "I just wanted to see the view" and the crowd gets angrier at him. They look at the disturbed sky and feel the cold ("but a thousand suns burn just for you") and start to scream at him again. May I say that I've only just recently started getting into DevilDriver and I fucking love them. Dez did a good thing in moving on from Coal Chamber (even though I am a fan of the late band). This song sounds to me like a guy is just about to snap at all the stress and tension he is experiencing. He's tossing up whether to just walk away from it all and give in, or stand up and fight and go off at society...obviously favouring the fight and not flight. |

I'm sorry, but can't anybody else see the total lack of meaning or vocal content in this song? They don't sing - they shout. Like how you will shout along while your fav song is playing and you're in the shower or something. They don't actually hit any notes or show any sign of actually singing along. I've also heard the horrible acoustic version of this song - it just proves that they can't sing properly. Secondly, the song is aimed and marketed for pre-teen/young teenage girls, as most pop songs nowadays are. And what is it about? Picking up some random guy who looks like he already has a girlfriend, and wanting to have a one night stand with him. Yes it is catchy, but it is also slutty. And the lyrics are as unoriginal as you can get: "that's what I said alright" - what the fuck is that?? The film clip also proves my point. You can bitch about how "if you don't like the song why did you come here?" I came here to express my opinion about this trashy 'music' that is coming out. Each to their own, I know, and it obviously isn't my cup of tea but to sell a song about having sex with a stranger like it's something to be PROUD of to girls who are 12-13-14 years old...what the hell is the world coming to? Really. |
