Kimya Dawson – Wandering Daughter Lyrics | 15 years ago |
the last lines are from the woody guthrie song called, appropriately, so long it's good been good to know you. makes me love kimya more for giving that shout out to the grandfather of folk. |
Camera Obscura – Tears for Affairs Lyrics | 17 years ago |
isn't it "it's a funny little thing"?, not "I'm...." either way, great song. |
Camera Obscura – Razzle Dazzle Rose Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this is a great song, though the lyrics may be sparse. the opening is great. it gets me everytime when she says "courage my love..." |
A Tribe Called Quest – Can I Kick It? Lyrics | 19 years ago |
well, i agree... so damn catchy. i like the (unpretentious) upbeat mellowness of it... "Rock and roll to the beat of the funk fuzz Wipe your feet really good on the rhythm rug" love that. |
Lead Belly – Goodnight Irene Lyrics | 19 years ago |
i can't believe no one has commented... this is the best folk song ever. period. there are quite a few lyric variations floating around out there. the version i have includes a different first verse, and the last two verses are reversed. (heh). |

Cat Power – You May Know Him Lyrics | 19 years ago |
'bout jesus? |
Broken Social Scene – I'm Still Your Fag Lyrics | 19 years ago |
one of the members of Broken Social Scene is gay... who exactly slips my mind... it's a good song anyway. |
Radiohead – Just Lyrics | 19 years ago |
i think the fact that we all want to know what's being said is what makes the song work... "change the lock three times, he still comes reeling through the door"... purest hell, huh? not knowing. anticipation anxiety... but it'll never be fulfilled. we have the capability of getting over our own demons, but do we ever really? and forever? "you do it to yourself, just you, you and no one else..." the concept works with many things... depends how literal or didactic you want to interpret things... i like to think it refers to depression. anyway, this is the song that got me into radiohead, around when it first came out as a single. or got airtime anyway... i was too young to remember contextual specifics. ;) but great song. one of my most favourite radiohead songs. |
Radiohead – Sulk Lyrics | 19 years ago |
love the line "i declare a holiday" fall asleep and drift away. exactly what i want to do when listening to this song... one of mymost favourite radiohead songs. |
Pavement – We Dance Lyrics | 19 years ago |
cat power (chan marshall) does a nice cover of this song. anyway, good song. |
Pavement – Gangsters And Pranksters Lyrics | 19 years ago |
great song, mellow and funny... pretty straightforward as far as meanings go i think... |
Pavement – Silence Kid Lyrics | 19 years ago |
hmmm... i think it's "meant" to be both kit and kid. i remember reading something about this once... malkmus probably says both. like career/korea in cut your hair. by the way, i believe it's "you got no hymn" and "your father's only damned yet"... Ezra Pound was a poet of some fame, and he was also a propagandist for Mussolini and fascist Italy before and during WW2. i believe he did some jail time as a POW afterwards... anyway, i won't speculate on the meaning here... silent movies? goldern era of radio? masturbation?... |
Pavement – Zurich Is Stained Lyrics | 19 years ago |
hitler is austrian/south german/bavarian/whatever. how he sounded to the rest of germany would be akin to having some texas yokel as president, if you can imagine that... oh wait. he has nothing to do with zurich. switzerland also has cities with french and italian sounding names because it's made of german, french, italian and romansch (an italian dialect) speaking cantons... anyway, i think huntmstr has it pinned... |
Pavement – Painted Soldiers Lyrics | 19 years ago |
my favourite pavement song, and probably my favourite song, period. sung by spiral stairs, it's on the "kids in the hall: braincandy" soundtrack. however, it's played without any lyrics in the movie. (it's at the scene where kevin mcdonald as dr.cooper and bruce mcculloch as cisco step out of a limo and walk up a red carpet. classic seagull-in-the-eye scene too...) anyway, i actually have no idea what it's "meaning" is. but is one supa-fine assed song. |
The Smiths – Pretty Girls Make Graves Lyrics | 19 years ago |
if anything, he's asexual i'd wager... or sexophobic. who cares? |
Spacehog – Mungo City Lyrics | 19 years ago |
i love this song! |
The Specials – Too Hot Lyrics | 19 years ago |
as everybody knows with the specials, this is another cover... the original by Prince Buster is one of, if not THE, favourite first-wave ska song of mine. i also love the instrumental portion on the original... oh man, i'm gonna go listen right now. the specials are fine and all, but they still pale in comparison to the first-wave originals. just my opinion. |
