The Cure – Boys Don't Cry Lyrics 19 years ago
morningstar, the cure pretty much started goth rock, it's just that they moved on and goth rock mutated into something totally different.

Manic Street Preachers – Archives of Pain Lyrics 19 years ago
mia, I think it can be taken as being sarcastic, particurlary if you look at the line
"All I preach is extinction"
which seems to be criticising those who are in favour of capital punsihment. I suppose it can be viewed as pro- or anti- captital punishment, depending on your own views.

Nirvana – All Apologies Lyrics 19 years ago
The song is not about drugs. It is about the media spotlight ("in the sun"), and how the media trivialise things. The ending "all in all is all we all are" is a clear reference to the fact the all performers are just headlines or soundbites - the real person is neither wanted or needed by the media.

The Smiths – Hand in Glove Lyrics 19 years ago
"No it's NOT like any other love
this one's different
because it's us!"
Not sure if this has got anything to do with homosexuality... it's more about two people who believe that the love between them is better than the love between any other couple. As for not caring whether people stare and being hidden by rags surely, this is about dressing different to everyone else and not fitting in. In my mind this is very much about two adolescents who want to be different, want to believe that no-one else has ever felt liked them, dressed liked them or loved like them... in other words teenage rebellion. Obviously it can be, and often is, interpreted as a song about homosexuality.

The Smiths – Suffer Little Children Lyrics 19 years ago
Ladyboygrrl, I'm not sure how exactly you got the impression that Morrissey implies the blame is Hindley's alone. What does the line
"Hindley wakes, and says :
'Oh, whatever he has done, I have done' "
say to you?

The Cure – Boys Don't Cry Lyrics 19 years ago
"I would say I'm sorry
If I thought that it would change your mind"
"I would tell you that I loved you
If I thought that you would stay"
Is it only me who thinks that these lines show that the guy isn't sorry and doesn't love the girl? The whole theme of the song seems to be "Yes, I've done wrong... but no I don't really want you back because it isn't worth it and I've realised I don't love you"

Nick Drake – Northern Sky Lyrics 19 years ago
It's about someone who brings light into your life whenever you see them- "brighten my northern sky" meaning there is light where there would normally be darkness. However, this could also be interpreted in a bad way, meaning this person reveals parts of your mind you would rather leave hidden.

R.E.M. – So. Central Rain Lyrics 19 years ago
"The wise man built his words upon the rocks
But I'm not bound to follow suit "
One of my favourite lyrics ever... I think the song could be about a relationship where two people want different things... he is restless and wants to live and take risks, whereas she wants to settle down - "a girl without a dream". He says I'm sorry, I love you but I've got to move on.

Manic Street Preachers – This Is Yesterday Lyrics 19 years ago
Correct me if i'm wrong, but I think this lyric is entirely Nicky's. It does provide a good contrast point for the album, prevents the listener from suffocating in the intensity of it all.

Manic Street Preachers – The Love Of Richard Nixon Lyrics 19 years ago
Nicky seems to have lost any kind of inspiration for his lyrics, while james seems to compose most of the music in his sleep. Sad to hear.

Manic Street Preachers – Stay Beautiful Lyrics 19 years ago
A song for the disaffected youth.

Manic Street Preachers – So Dead Lyrics 19 years ago
I'm not sure about this but it could be about being trapped in a relationship, one where there is no intimacy and just going through the motions. "I'll feed you lines to make you smile" suggests someone growng tired of the relationship, one that is untimately worthless.

Manic Street Preachers – Archives of Pain Lyrics 19 years ago
Agree with johnno on this one-
"There is never redemption
Any fool can regret yesterday
Nail it to the House of Lords
You will be buried in the same box as a killer"
This links in with the line about giving them (mass murderers) the respect they deserve. It is saying murderers should never be forgiven, and society is too lenient, they should be sentenced to death not life.

Manic Street Preachers – Roses In The Hospital Lyrics 19 years ago
Not sure if johnno's right about this linking in with this is yesterday, as nicky wrote that.

Manic Street Preachers – Roses In The Hospital Lyrics 19 years ago
Surely this song is about neglect., how people can be ignored and taken for granted until something happens to them. I think it's saying "Roses in the hospital? What use are they, if you'd cared about me before I wouldn't be in this mess"

Manic Street Preachers – P.C.P. Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is about how political correctness can be a good thing - "pro-life", but it is also compromising - "anti-choice". Therefore a "pyrrhic victory", a victory achieved at great cost.
