Yeah, the spoken bit at the beginning is really retarded but it makes me giggle for some reason... it's just so stupid. |

This is my favourite song on Cheer Up. I love the lyrics too because it's interesting to listen to someone who's mature enough to admit their faults and mistakes, as opposed to emo bands who sing about why all their problems are the fault of other people, CONSTANTLY. |

This is actually kind of Less Than Jake-ish. Singing songs with depressing lyrics to groovy, happy beats. |

Reel Big Fish – Ban The Tube Top Lyrics
|
Ah... I always thought of it as, there's this sad, dorky guy, and he likes this sad, dorky girl... and even though he loves her, he hates her fashion sense... Which kind of made sense to me because Reel Big Fish have such an individual and cool fashion sense themselves...
So I thought of it as he loves the fact that tube tops reveal so much skin, but hates the general ugliness of the top. |

Reel Big Fish – One Hit Wonderful Lyrics

Haha. Notice how there's only one comment on this song and FORTY TWO comments on Sell Out.
We're Not Happy Till You're Not Happy may be a really bitter, angry, album, but it's got some moments of real clarity and self-awareness. |

Green Day – Walking Alone Lyrics
|
I think it's very much from Mr Armstrong's own point of view. I mean, consider that me must be surrounded by people all the time, friends, family, colleagues, etc. But you can stick your foot in your mouth and make a mistake, (something I know I do a lot) and other people laugh, and there are still times when no matter how big a crowd you're a part of, everyone feels like they're alone sometimes.
The bit about the "old stomping ground" could easily refer to Gilman Street and the whole scene Green Day were a part of way back when, and how he doesn't feel like he fits in there anymore.
I know I'm going on about this a bit, but you know that feeling like you're completely alone? Even though you know you have friends and family and such, you just can't shake the feeling of lonliness. |

Although for the most part it's obvious, I like Vivienne's ideas too; that Warning has an underlying sense of... selling out and such. |

Green Day – Favorite Son Lyrics

gibbonsofpaul: Sure, let's leave the political side of music to the multimillionaires!
Yes, I realise that Green Day are millionaires too, but there are many punk bands that are signed to independent labels still sing political tunes far more earnestly than Bono and Lennon who is dead anyway.
I also kind of like the inference that this is about a sellout band who's left their roots and original "scene" behind. Like that guy in Homecoming who Rock n Roll girlfriend is about... |

Screeching Weasel – I Hate Led Zeppelin Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
It's true really. Screeching Weasel songs are sarcastic, simple and fun. Led Zepplin songs are overblown, complicated and more than a little pretentious. Most Screeching Weasel fans wouldn't have the attention span to listen to a six minute heavy metal song anyway, I know I fall into that category.
And of course, like everyone else has already said, any offence taken was completely intended. |

How has this had only ten comments made when there are over a thousand on American Idiot? Oh, wait a minute...
This is a great one though. And I think it's played in a country style because it's just even more surreal and weird. |

Green Day – Private Ale Lyrics

Back on their albums on lookout! their lyrics were easier to relate too, but a lot less sophisticated and they generally seemed to revolve around Mr Armstrong's lady friends or just plain apathetic boredom. |

Screeching Weasel – California Sucks Lyrics

I love the way he rants about California and then says he's never been there and never will. It's awesome.
It's also really refreshing to hear this after listening to too much of Green Day, Rancid and other California bands when you don't live there. |

Green Day – Who Wrote Holden Caulfield? Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
It's definitely not just a coincidence about the link with the Screeching Weasel song, because Mike Dirnt played base with them on the album that song is on.
I read The Catcher In The Rye when my cousin gave me her old copy of it, along with some other books. I couldn't really relate to the character, but I still really like it. I like the New York style of narrative and way of speech that you see in it and also Death Of A Salesman by Arthur Miller. |

This song is awesome. I saw Green Day live and they played this one. And they all wore silly hats! Billie Joe wore a crown and Tré wore a big pink floppy hat, and the other guitarist wore a pirate hat. But I couldn't see Mike Dirnt from where I was. |

Bad Religion – Bored and Extremely Dangerous Lyrics
| 18 years ago

I think it could be to do with not school shootings specifically, but maybe the consequences of having such loose gun control and not enough help for people with problems in under educated areas of society. For example, the lines
"A room an empty shelf
A book on mental health"
Are suggesting that this person doesn't read much, and maybe wanting someone to listen to them is to do with psychiatric help to help them express their frustrations constructively?
Will people please stop trying to interpret EVERY FUCKING SONG on Process Of Belief as being about Brett's heroin problem? Can't Stop and Supersonic might be, but every song? |

Less Than Jake – Danny Says Lyrics
|
I'm guessing that it's about a guy called Danny who's bored of his "scene" (God, I hate using the word "scene" when I'm not talking about theatre) but he's only nineteen, so I think they're implying that he's getting a bit big for his boots and being all "Yeah, well I'M nineteen!" so then, presumably, LTJ would say "Well we're in our thirties and we're not bored yet, so stop your whining!" |

Less Than Jake – History Of A Boring Town Lyrics

not saying that all popular people are jerks, or all jerks are popular people
That's a mature attitude. For a second there I thought you were going to go on an "I hate all popular people" rampage, but I'm glad you didn't.
I'm fifteen and for me the song is kind of scary. It's sort of a warning, a lot of people say that they're going to escape from their hometown and go places, but it doesn't always work out like that... and it terrifies me because I don't even want to live in the country that I live in any longer than I have too. |
