Alcest – Souvenirs d'un autre monde Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Here's a smoother translation I came across. I don't speak French so I can't verify, but it reads much better in the second verse, and some cognates are obvious. In any event, this is an incredibly beautiful song and has helped me deal with loss in recent years. - From where I come, time does not exist The seconds become hours Short years fly away And our misleading words are replaced By music and colors That float like perfumes in the amber air. Don't be afraid, everything is finished now Break the chains of your mortal fears For forever in being freed And find the past quietude Don't be afraid, everything is finished now Let your tears fall one last time For forever in being freed And rejoin the world from which you came |
Billy Talent – Worker Bees Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this is clearly a political song, and its about war and fascism. you guys covered most of the anti-war aspects, so ill just go into the fascism part. Protect the hive from enemies! Follow the herd mentality! that part of the song is frantic and crazy, and its basically mocking your average reactionary american. the type who would be willing to let this country deteriorate and give up freedom for security. And we’ll march along with our blindfolds on And we’ll ride the rails with our pistols drawn i interpret the these two lines to be an image of america as a fascist or authoritarian state, with a heavily controlled populace and armed soldiers keeping order. but what do i know |
Unwritten Law – Seein' Red Lyrics | 18 years ago |
this song is a liberal's forgiving outrage against the stubborn stupidity of rightwing america and george bush. the liberal is telling the bush supporter to keep following bush as he runs the country into the ground (follow the leader down, and swallow your pride and drown), and once bush has ultimately screwed the country over, "maybe thats when you will know" the magnitude of their failures in critical thinking and common sense. "all i wanna hear is your voice" refers to the voice inside of all americans, the strong inner pride that needs no words to describe, that makes this country great. and conservatives have muted this voice through shredding the constitution for their own political purposes. all the liberal asks is that the conservatives wake up and say, in actions and in words, that they uphold the principles and ideals this country was founded on. it recognizes that when there are no more excuses to be made for the bush administration, positive changes can start to happen. and thats all pretty impressive, considering this song was released before everyone realized that bush was a monumental fuckup. what a wise and prophetic band! seriously though, good song. |

does anyone else think they sound like bowling for soup now? |
Shadows Fall – Montauk Lyrics | 18 years ago |
in the movie eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, an important place was montauk. in the movie, theres a company that erases peoples memories of a person (with their consent). "electromagnetic control of the mind" along with the title forces me to conclude that eternal sunshine was at least an influence for this song. |
Shadows Fall – The Power Of I And I Lyrics | 18 years ago |
shadows fall isnt death metal |
Bad Religion – Los Angeles Is Burning Lyrics | 18 years ago |
without seeing the music video, and just looking at the chorus, the song is about a nuclear bomb going off in los angeles. if youve seen videos of nukes, you see the images of the trees bending and catching on fire in the wind. so many lives are on the breeze? has nothing to do with widespread fires, has to be a nuke. even the stars are ill at ease? you can see the explosion from outer space. |
Carnal Forge – Hand Of Doom Lyrics | 18 years ago |
best. intro. ever. |
System of a Down – Question! Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I also agree with ChristAlphaOmega that the chorus has an obvious afterlife-question reference. However, you don't have to be a missionary while explaining a song with a vague religious connections. I won't even get into the invalidity of your arguments because it would be a wasted effort. If you'll notice, the song is called QUESTION, and you are trying to spin it as an answer. Get over yourself. |
Oasis – Hey Now! Lyrics | 19 years ago |
--- I took a walk with my fame Down memory lane I never did find my way back --- i assumed that meant he cant figure out how he became famous the rest of the song just seems to talk in generalities that apply to a lot of situations, something oasis is very good at. a relationship? a spiritual journey? random disjointed thoughts? you decide still an awesome song |
Spineshank – Smothered Lyrics | 19 years ago |
this song describes parts of A Clockwork Orange, although i doubt it was written with the movie in mind. "Here all your walls surround me, They're closing in they've locked my sight, Violence around me found me when i could not fight." if you havent seen the movie, dont worry about it |
311 – Seems Uncertain Lyrics | 19 years ago |
beyondthegreysky i agree, its always refreshing to see artists as prominent as 311 question religion in their songs :P |
311 – Borders Lyrics | 19 years ago |
this song is about the lifestyle that hollywood pushes on everyone, even those who cant afford to keep up with it. everyone is "wired to short circuit", meaning they we will never reach the so-called hollywood ideals. this song is about materialism and how ridiculous it is, and 311 hopes that people will wake up and change will come. |
Alkaline Trio – Hell Yes Lyrics | 19 years ago |
a lot of you seem to be in denial about this song. it was clearly written with religious intentions, and is NOT about a woman. they are showing a mans relationship with god (or lack of it). about the line "youve been on my shoulder all the while / whispering sweet nothings"... picture in like cartoons a devil and an angel on a persons shoulders representing their conscience. thats what that is. hes been listening to the advice of the devil side of his conscience that has been there all the time. there shouldnt be any confusion to this song, its very straightforward. |
