You'd have to tell us all why "Tropicana" would have ANYTHING to do with Russia though for that to fly, though, you know? Haven't been to Russia lately, but I'm pretty sure it's not very tropical lol.
Maybe it's a comparison of American girls versus the locals they come across? How they want those American girls? In essence, though, Marianne and her relectance to join the fray (still voting for the "sea" interp), and they just want their bonnies they had to leave back home. |

Ummm I think you may be right actually, but I've always hear this song and thought about my current boyfriend. I get so wrapped up in him I want other people to hate me. Life without him is merely interlude ( cookie for whoever knows what song THAT is from). The whole "on the sly" part, we haven't told anyone we are seeing each other. If we do, there is such a stigma with relationships when everyone knows. If you keep it quiet, then that person is your one respite from the world. Your one escape. That's kinda what this song is to me. |

While that COULD be relevant, the romantic version is much more plausible. If not, why so many references to New York? (I count 4) and besides, the romantic interpretation sits with me better in general...
I think when Alex sings about the "gulf/jet streams" he is litterally talking about a Gulfstream jet, hence the whole "I could be there when you land"
and PS: Green Point is a neighborhood in Brooklyn

I have a different version of this song. It has more guitar and drums sounding. Its much less mellow. There are a couple differences in the lyrics: "unexpected" --> "unsuspecting" ; "through a punched-out mirror" --> "like a stone-cold killer" ; "hear the system scream" --> "never to be seen"
BTW: IT IS STILL ALMONDS imo, not OMENS (I dont care what it SOUNDS like, "almonds" fit with the lyrics)

^^Yeah it is....I was reading this thing saying that radio stations were flooded with people wanting to hear the song from the Zellers commercial...This song is so awesome. Its nice to listen to a song where the singer and the instruments dont have to compete with each other. Thats a good band.... |

Am I the only one who gets a real strong Beatles circa early 70's vibe here? I really dont want to compare Kasabian to the Beatles because thats sacrilege...but they do have something in their music that flows like nothing you can really name...maybe its the drugs...maybe its me |

I disagree with killersrule....I really think this song is about heartbreak...not a realxing seascape sort of picture. Just because this song is upbeat, I dont think it meant that Sam or the other guys were all chipper when they wrote it. I think its more along the lines of a false smile or a hollow laugh type of song. "I must have had fun 'cause now I'm broke" I think is Sam trying to tell himself the ole 'It is Better To Have Loved And Lost Than To Have Never Loved At All'...From my perspective, he's sitting around everywhere jsut looking at people and making up their lives as he watches them: 'All these people, They look so, they look so happy to me' and the whole Ring thing I think is the basis of his sadness. His old
flame has moved on because he never paid attention to her (hence the "I'm blind in this town, it's hard to see things that aren't right in front of me"), he comes back to her and she wants nothing to do with him, he leaves but cant stop thinking about her (i.e. the whole no ring bit) |

THIS IS THE BEST SONG ON THE ALBUM (sorry I had to vent right there....just couldnt believe I was only the third person to comment on this song) Its a shame I wasnt able to go to Coachella but I'll be in Chicago during Lollapalooza so I'm so glad I'll get to see them then (and the killers and bravery on the same bill...cant wait to see the fur fly lol)....anyway, the song.....Tyrant is so dark and moody and catchy-as-hell that you can't possibly not like it. I think its about a really abusive relationship when you feel so completely dependent on the other person that you forget everyone else. You shouldnt be with them but youre too scared not to be so you just hang on for the ride...Really great to listen to over and over again |

I just wanted everyone to know that there is a wave remix of this song and if you thought you liked this song then.....Its just ten times better now (if you like thumping beats and pseudo-80's keyboards).
